NTRP ratings for doubles?

Thought someone might know the answer to this.

My singles rating is 4.0 (go ahead, laugh it up). I've played in tournaments and in singles leagues as a 4.0.

Do I need a separate doubles rating?

A friend of mine called me Tuesday and asked me if I'd play doubles with him tonight. Apparently it's some sort of team league (I don't know all the details) but they have singles players and doubles players on the team. My friend said he always plays doubles and that is rating is 4.0. His regular partner hurt his knee over the weekend and is going to be out a few weeks, so he's looking for me to be his replacement partner. I have no idea if I need a separate ranking for doubles or if I use the same one as my singles ranking. I asked my friend, he said he didn't know but that he thought it would be ok if I played 4.0 doubles since my singles rating is 4.0. I told him to check with the captain of his team, his captain said he wasn't 100% sure but that it was "probably" ok and that I should go ahead and play.

Anybody know if separate singles and doubles ratings are required to play in a USTA sanctioned league?

Nope - one rating. You can have a mixed exclusive rating if you only play mixed, but apart from that, your rating holds for singles and doubles.

but if you still want to know how good your doubles team is: add up your total NTRP levels and divide by 2.

That would put us at a 4.0 since that is my friend's rating as well. I think he probably needs to get his rating updated, he's got nice strokes, but he's seriously out of shape......which is probably why he only plays doubles.

We won 6-4, 6-1. My friend had a couple of horrible games the first set, really picked it up the second set. The only thing I don't like about doubles is that it isn't much of a workout.
