NXT Control Alternative?

I had my Volkl Powerbridge V1 MP previously strung with NXT control and I was happy with the playability.

Price and durability is another issue.

Right now, it's strung with NXT (not control). I don't like them as much as the control version. Plus with both versions, the strings started straying pretty quickly. I'm not a huge hitter and don't break strings often, but I may not even get 10 hours of play out of these NXT strings.

Any suggestions for something that will play similar to the NXT control that's a little more cost effective, will last longer and is fairly readily available (something even that the stringer at the club might carry)?

Thank in advance.

this is a poly...

for a multi try head rip control, yonex super 850 pro, tecnifibre duramix.

alla these are durable control oriented multies.

since you like NXT Control, how about Sensation Control? The design is fairly similar. I've used it from time to time and it pretty solid. Again, it isn't the longest lasting string, but it a good bit cheaper.

I'm a fan of Toura Quasi Armor which is supposed to be along the same lines as these two strings, but it does have a good bit more power.

As the poster about be stated, Prince Premier Control is a good one as well.

All of these have a good bit of string movement. If you want a multi that will lock into place, try Technifibre Multi-feel. It doesn't move as much as other multis, but it does have multi durability unfortunately.

Technifibre HDX Tour 16G but it is actually more expensive than Wilson NXT Control

If you are in Europe and break the 16G too quickly, they make a 1.35 mm version but I can't find it in the USA.

Here's the Wilson NXT Control link for those who want to compare.

My recommendation for you, is Pacific Tough Gut 16G.

PTG is very cost effective considering it last a long time. It could easily last 3 to 4 times longer than NXT Control as long as you don't play in wet (misty or rainy) conditions.

alos a very cheap and durable string is head fxp tour, or in europe head fusion.
i have it in my haed extreme, but the feel is not so nice like the others

Try Tecnifibre X-One Biphase. It's a great multi and lasted very well for me. Much longer-lasting than NXT. Never cared for NXT control. Good luck!

Try a hybrid of Control in the mains and syngut in the crosses. IMO it plays plays as well as full bed Control and lasts longer.
Also costs much less

i had this in my raqcuet. very nice multi, feel and very very soft in the arm, but it has too much power...

instead of this it is much better to try tecnifibre hdx tour or duramix.
the control is much better, and they have better spin. also they will last longer than x-one

alternative you can try a hybrid, with x-one bisphase in crosses and a poly like tecnifibre black code n the mains...
this will be my next set up: x-one 16g 25 kg and black code 17g 23 kg.

Irvin this string is similar to duramix? to x-code?
i am comfused about the multi stings of tecnifibre.

for me tecnifibre should have one soft powerful multi like x-one and one firmer multi for contol. and not 8 different strings

The OP wrote he was looking for a more durable/ cost effective string. As a guy who has gone through four REELS of 16G X-One and play tested NXT control for Wilson and two sets of Technibre HDX Tour, I would be shockedif X1 outlasted NXT Control.

I strung X1 in my own frames for four years, before switching to a 16X15 Steam.NXT Control 16 as a cross lasted me around 25 sets. X1 16g snapped in 13-15 sets.

Try Pacific Tough Gut 16g. It last me a month in a Steam 99S, two to four times longer than 16g polys. And it is very soft-

Why pay for premium multi that breaks so quickly, when PTG will last twice as long?

Hybrid it - PTG 16 mains / Head Hawk 16g crosses. Soft, great spin and very soft - two frames $26.95 per frame.

WC Black5edge / X1 16g was my setup for four years. It lasted 13 to 15 sets before I broke the X1.

Any shaped poly saws through the soft muliti. NXT control crosses got me another 10 sets out the B5E.

It hits nicely, but if the OP mentioned he needs something more durable than a softer multi.

HDX Tour is more expensive than NXT control and hits very similar IMO, so that option doesn't help the OP either

HDX Tour is a nice string, but Duramax is just plain awful IMO.

Great help everyone. So many choices.

I'm going to have to look through all of these and figure something out.

Please continue to post any other suggestions.

What about Tecnifibre Multi-Feel? Seems like that's a pretty similar string to some of these and is readily available and inexpensive.

Can't edit here, I guess.

I'm kind of thinking of trying either Tecnifibre Multi-Feel or the Toura Quasi-Gut Armor next time I break a string.

Either of those 2 seems like a good alternative to NXT Control for me?

Any final suggestions between the 2 or another last minute contender?

I decided to give Tourna Quasi-Gut Armor a shot. I was able to get it pretty cheap and shipped quickly.

Will wait until I break a string (probably soon since my NXT setup is fraying badly after only a few hours of use) and see how I like it.

Will probably try to Technifibre Multi-Feel next if I don't like the Tourna.

Do a search for Weiss Cannon 5 star. I can tell you that if you can find this particular string, then it's the closest thing to NXT Control. It is a multi that has some polyester properties within the string itself.

I've played 5 sets with my Tourna Quasi-Gut Armor strung at 54lb and am very happy so far. Ball contact with the string feels very clean and I'm finding that I'm able to get better spin than with the NXT Control strings.

Hopefully durability is decent enough with these. I'm not a big hitter or have tons of topspin, so my stings generally last a fairly long time, but I really didn't like that the NXT strings starting fraying after very little play.

In Tecnifibre, Multifeel 17 is very nice. Good comfort and spin, but not real durable. I found the 16g to be quite stiff for a multi. Another one you might like is XR1. It has a narrow poly core surrounded by nylon multi bundles. It felt more dead and firm than NXT Control did, but since it has the poly core it might be worth looking up.

Are you still using the Quasi-Gut ? I switched to the NXT Power 17G from X-One Biphase because although I loved the feel I realised I was unable to properly control the power. I now get more control but like you find the NXT frays too quickly.

Yes, still using Quasi-Gut Armor. It's a great string for me. Plays well, lasts long, doesn't fray and stays in place pretty well. Very happy with it. I'm just a high 3.5, so string doesn't affect me like it might a higher level player though.
