NXT Mains/ ALU Crosses?

How about this, I know I have bothered you guys in previous posts, but you have been really helpful, so I have decided to switch around the setup.

At first I was thinking this:

Mains @ 55 lbs. ALU Power Rough 16L
Crosses @ 58 lbs. Wilson NXT Tour 18

How about this:

Mains @ 58 lbs. Wilson NXT Tour 18
Crosses @ 55 lbs. ALU Power Rough 16L

Does switching the setup make the Rough cut the NXT any slower, cause a 16L rough string can eat through 18g pretty quick. Any suggestions?

First on any hybrid you should string the Mains tighter then the Crosses, it makes the sweet spot bigger. And that setup looks good, the thinner NXT on the mains will immitate gut well and will be a lot like federers setup, which I love. It looks like you will have a spin masters dream setup there with the 18g and the rough crosses :)

Try it.

If you're a 3.5 it won't break very quickly as others have stated.

But using ALU for crosses won't be very cost effective. It won't change the feel of the stringbed a lot but you have paid $14 for it.

I have tried the so called fedrer setup in my N6.1 95 16x18. Its a good setup if you have solid ,looped well timed strokes.I didnt feel any increase in sweet spot. The mains were at 58 lbs and crosses at 54.My only complaints about this setup is that the raquet seems unstable.Alu seems to be a pretty heavy string( weight wise i mean)Just did not feel right in crosses.I tried the same set up using SPPP...KIRSCHBAUM TOUCH TOURBO 1.23 and SPPP 1.8 AND kIRSCHBAUM cOMPETETION.tHEY PALY MUCH BETTER BUT WITHOUT COMPROMISE OF THE RAQUET STABILITY...

You want to use a thiner poly, also I recomend string savers, you second stringing choice should be good as long as you are not a string breaker.

As i said NXT wont do well in crosses especially in 18g.

This is my history of NXT:

NXT 16 cross, Enduro tour main: lasted 3days

NXT 16 : 7 days

Enduro tour 17 crosses NXT 16 mains: 13days

Enduro is similar to bigBanger so a good comparison, and as a note the ones that lasted 3days didnt break themselves, instead my n6.1 frame broke hitting a slice bh! But i know from others experiance this setup dont last long, the reason i tried nxt in mains.

I can hit topspin fine. I just thought that the rough and NXT (which is basically multifilament gut) would make a sick power/control/spin setup.

Your proposed set up is a COMPLETE waste of money. The 18ga multis might last a match if you are lucky in this setup. Two expensive strings that make absolutely no sense to use together in a hybrid. What are you trying to accomplish?

I see you are using a Hurricane/Excel hybrid. Another poor choice. Go with a newer poly that holds tension, try the Megaforce or Poly Plasma. Go with a softer solid core hybrid string, NOT a multi.

not correct, ime. it really depends on the mix of the 2 types of strings being used. i string my SG crosses tighter with poly mains, for example.

Well yeah, that would be a lot better choice.

I go Poly Plasma 17 mains and Forten Sweet 16 crosses.
