How fast is a F-1 from 0-60mph... looked online, but can't find info?
What about the drag-racers with the big nose and big wheels?

This is quite interesting. Looks like this guy has the world's fastest street-legal car... with 2 turbos and 2000 hp: http://youtube.com/watch?v=YtxfbxGz1u4

This is good too: The Bugatti Veyron getting tested at 260 mph (0-60 in 2.4 sec.)! http://youtube.com/watch?v=NIfWPXGnj2o

And after this gets in production http://www.caparo-t1.com/ looks like it would be faster than the Veyron, from 0-60.
 
:shock: WooooooooHooooooooooooooooooooo :shock::-D .... if he would put an aerodynamic body on that monster he would get the 0-60 figure down below 1 sec. Either way, that car is amazing.
 
Actually, since it was in England, I believe they were talking about 1sec. for 0-60km., not mph, right?

I think you are right. When you think about it, the time it takes for your foot to press the accelerator can take about the same length of time as getting the vehicle up to this speed. I believe 0-60km translates into 0-37mph. Still amazing but closer to the times of other super cars. By the way, I think the clip showed that the English car would do a 1/4 mile in about 7.5 seconds!

My Minicooper S (American Version) does 0-100km or 0-62mph in just over 7.5 seconds.
 
Unless you are a street racer, IMO the 0-60 stat is the most useless of all. The rolling 5-60 that Road and Track uses is much more practical...

I think it'd be more of a traction issue, actually. The trap speed would be the one affected by the aerodynamics (and gearing, etc. etc.)

0-60 is more fun and way more safe than trying out a sports car at 100+ mph. That guy in the video, who tested the Veyron at 260mph., was taking a huge risk, even using three lanes for his driving. Imagine that even airplanes take-off and land with 100mph less than that.

The number of folks doing true 0-60 as they are done in the magazines, are few outside of street racers as I mentioned. The number of folks who break the 100 mark is essentially everyone I know.

You maybe didn't see the end of the video, the guy said the Veyron was rock solid and quite steady, not really all that difficult.
 
Lucky, You still have to acknowledge that many of the standard street cars don't have near the stability of the Veyron as they head towards their respective top speeds. Yeah, I admit, like many others, I used to test some of them out in my youth. Looking back I know that I put my life at risk on a number of occasions. Didn't really think about that at the time though.

The guy going 250 mph had alot more going for him than the average Joe looking to find out how fast his machine can go. They knew that they had 5.5 miles of straight-away and could perform all the calculations to assure that they would be safe. And, the Veyron was steady in part due to excellent aerodynamic design. I wouldn't want to take the car from the first video (2000 hp) and try the same trick on the Volkswagen track.
 
I once tested a Honda Civic at its max -- 120mph on a straight higway at midnight. I now regret it, since I was taking a big risk for my life, just for the exitement of driving fast. It was not worth my life; at 120 mph, your reaction time needs to be twice faster than at 60!
 
Need for Speed

Jm, You reminded me of my college days (yeah, way back when) when I used to have the car with the original rotary engine --- the RX-2. I was out one evening, probably had "a beer or two" with some buddies and decided to show them how fast the Mazda would go. We were were going about 115 mph when I suddenly remembered that I had a load of recycled bricks in the trunk! Talk about stupid. Probably should have changed my name to Lucky, too.;)
