Are you going to appeal up to 4.0?
I believe I found the player, and a good part of that 14-4 was Mixed so doesn't count. And yes, he played with very strong partners against so-so opponents on average so that was a factor. I didn't have him bumped down to 4.5, but very close to doing so.
In Mixed, sure. No strikes or DQs from Mixed.
Actually he was on my fall team, just had three matches and lost all but they were close. He's 60 next year though. I was surprised EH got the appeal but CS got the bump, maybe because of the NTRP championship ?

There was a lady I saw at 4.0 Nationals that definitely was NOT 4.0. I looked her up, and she was a top rated junior at one point.
S of course. It was 2020-2021. He was a clear 4.0... the full level bump was a surprise
I hope they address things like this. There are "big changes" coming according to our league coordinator. She is also awful so she may not have any actual information. I am curious what they have in the pipeline

Does that apply to Singles and Combo seasons also? And if so, why doesn’t the USTA factor in those matches/leagues at all? Basically someone can avoid Spring league and self rate under their level and win all their Singles Combo and Mixed matches but never get moved up. Kind of crappy.

No. never went to competitive levels (states, regionals, etc). As far as I know to get DQ'ed in regular league play you need to be absolutely wrecking or have people complain which he was not and they did not.
This depends on your section. As someone else pointed out, Southern doesn't reverse matches but the player is promoted and can no longer play at the lower level. Others reverse all matches played in any current seasons. Others reverse just the strikes.

Schmke, this is truly bizarre. I'm sure you know without re-writing how southern was one of the main sections mentioned in the self-rate threads. I hope this graph is a compilation of hundreds of players. If only a few players in each section moved up and down, USTA really missed the self-raters in southern. I played some, which was a privilege, even beat some of them, but I could easily form a decent 5.0 team and top 4.5 team if given my pick of players from the 4.0 self rates in southern.I've started doing all the analysis on my blog, but one early observation is that despite Southern doing very well at Nationals, their bump up rate was nothing extraordinary. In fact, the men as a whole had a historic bump down rate certainly not seen for Southern or perhaps any other section in the time I've been analyzing ratings. Here is the men's chart.
The other sections are all pretty normal, bump up rates around 8-10% and bump down rates around 4-6%.
But Southern had nearly 15% of men bumped down? And only 4% bumped up?
In 2019 we had the Great Southern Bump, and then the subsequent curious notification to some players that they should appeal down and a large number of those were granted, so it feels like this is a continued correction for what was perhaps an inappropriate bump up in 2019. But this still feels awfully extreme.
Something looks fishy.
I will dig into it more in the next few days, stay tuned, but something looks odd as it stands.
