OK, so he lost in "routine" fashion to the King of Clay in the Monte Carlo QF, but I was really impressed by a few things in the match yesterday.

I hadn't actually seen him play but his style reminds me of Coria a bit. I'd love to see this guy win some titles on the clay in the coming year. I think he has the game and the confidence to do some damage on the dirt.

He had absolutely no fear in the Nadal match and went toe to toe with him in a number of rallies. He is basically a ball machine but with excellent pace on his ground strokes.

Was anyone else impressed?

I agree. His height is a huge problem with regard to the serve.

But on slow clay I can see him causing major problems, especially if a top player is having an off day.

Nadal wasn't even playing badly but for moments in the match yesterday he had no answers for Schwartzman! It was a little like Davydenko redux!

He gave Rafa lot of issues at USO as well . He has the potential to upsey players of the style of Murray . He can reach top 30 with some effort

Always been impressed with him on clay so no surprise. Sadly his game doesn't translate to quicker surfaces as he has no serve.

wrong imo, there was bits of rain throughout the match. Schwartzman just ran out of gas (and got slightly injured). It didn't help him that conditions were heavy, but there wasn't a massive change in conditions between the first 3 and the last 2.

Lol no. The rain was picking up several times in the middle of the match. By the time the match was ending it was consistently coming down.

Another little guy (like Goffin, but Goffin is taller and slighter) who gets the max out of what they have. You gotta admire them.

Yes, I wondered about this too. I got behind after that USO where he beat Raonic Waw and Djok in a row! Incredible run. Then lost to Cilic. He's had some impressive wins here and there, but never followed up with 2 in a row.
I have to assume it's partly the constant low level injuries--he's never out for long, but frequently retiring or skipping a tournament--but also I just don't think he has the beleif, drive, whatever you want to call that, that the champions have.
H'es beautiful to watch though.

I have sort of been in awe of the little ******* ever since he caused 14 time grand slam champion Rafael Nadal to leap into the air and fist pump a victory against him in the second round of a grand slam. Follow that up with the borderline disturbing meltdown into which he sent Dimitrov during their showdown in Istanbul last year, and round the trilogy out with what he did to Djokovic yesterday, and year after year I just gain more and more respect for him. He's taken the blueprint laid about by his forefather, the great Olivier Rochus, and elevated things to the next level.

I noticed Diego at USO14 , despite Djokovic took him to the cleaners in first two sets he fought as his life depends on winning 4 games in that 3th set. Crowd and Djokovic gave him standing ovations after match just like yesterday.

Sebastian Grosjean was short as well but more powerful than Diego. Unfortunately, both are mental midgets.

Too short and should model his serve after some WTA players. Nishikori is another one and trying to do too much. Nishi uses a 27.25" racquet, I wonder what Diego uses.

As for the Jewish jargon... peeps confuse it as a race, religion or some dominating status when the guy is a proud Argentinian.
Im very happy he beat Cilic and good to see someone who is Rochus height take that position that was unfilled for a 165cm player.
Really do doubt he is taller than Rochus as my friends 170cm 14yo kid pipped him easily while next to him in her sandals taking a selfie.
I love to see these shorter players take it up to the big guys and I guess this is where the slower hard court has some merit.
2 of the best performing well behaved players atm from Argentina one is Towering Delpo the other Schwarzgnome Terminator, gotta love it.

Yep you are correct, I doubt Mini Terminator could handle that high bouncing kaotic spin but he could also take it earlier like Davy, Blake, Fog and others have.
Rochus had a serious dominance in H2H over Safin and even beat Delpo on his 2nd comeback I think it was out of his countless comebacks.
I expect Querrey and Shapo to be a ripper match up but tennis is tennis we shall see as Shapo has already played qualies

Yeah, just finished watching it, Schwartzman was the deserved winner as he played very well. Schwartzman reminds me of Fognini without the swagger, aggression or unforced errors, but he plays a similiar game with heavy spin groundstrokes and solid in all areas of the court.

I remember watching him at Nottingham a few years ago and thought he must be there as a doubles specialist, but all credit to him as he has made it far here in the US Open. He's about the same height as me, 5'7'' or 5'8'' so it is nice to see him competing at the top level, being shorter is a massive disadvantage on the return game but he has overcome some of his 'short'comings.

been watching him the past few months and have been impressed with his results, even more so in this tournament and have been rooting for him to at least make the semi's. Love his consistency, although I notice he needs to work on hitting his balls deeper. He's definatley got the drive and consistency and his match against Cilic yesterday was fantastic
