This is what happens when no one younger than you has even been #2. Sad times.
That makes no sense. It's like asking for tennis to be a different sport.Metrics.
Play 3 out of 4 slams on clay instead of grass/hard, and Rafa will blow Fed out of the water even more.

I would think everyone starts the year and race at 0 in 2021, they just don't lose points until March from 2020, and then all goes back to normal, including Wimbledon.Hopefully.....If Nole hangs onto 2,000 from AO are they inserted into race? Like surely Nole doesn’t get a 2,000 point start to the year regardless of what he does there? Hopefully someone can answer these questions....
Wimbledon - what happens there folks? I presume points gained in 2019 are dropped at start of 2021 tournament?
I’ve never thought Weeks at #1 was a particularly important measure, but Djokovic certainly has been eyeing this goal for a while.
Due to the new way the ranking system works with COVID (players get to keep points from 2020), Marca has confirmed that whatever happens, Djokovic is guaranteed to finish world number 1. This will happen on the week of 8th March.
Congratulations to Djokovic and his fans.
In 2006 Nadal reached the final of Wimbledon with the loss of only two sets. En route to the final he beat former Wimbledon champ Agassi.
In 2007 Nadal reached the final of Wimbledon with the loss of 5 sets. The highest ranked player player he beat in a comlplete match (on the SF Djokovic retired at 1 set all and Nadal leading 4-1 in the third) was Berdych.
Djokovic is the last player to like any covid measures, including ones done by ATP. And I think he'll want to break the record in a legit way, with real time points.I thought that Djokovic was for the little man and against policies that heavily favour the top?
Oh, well, then, apparently only when his interests are not in question. Otherwise it is quite OK.
What an stupid post. When you look at the real points gained this year, Novak is no.1, without covid system. It's irrelevant that he had bad finish. If he doesn't retain his AO points, them you can talk. It's all a bunch of crap. Novak lost to Sonego, Nadal, Medvedev and Thiem all within like 5 weeks. And yet there are still idiots out there who thinks that he deserves to be called the number 1 player on tour. This world is really messed up.
If they make any changes, it's likely what would happen after March 2021.What if ATP changes the way ranking system works atm? That's why it isn't official yet.
It is a messed up world indeed when someone thinks a number 1 is determined by results in 5 weeks rather than in a year. Only idiots think he doesn't deserve to be called number 1, because under any points system, he is precisely that. It's all a bunch of crap. are we not counting the fact that 6/9 slams he won from 04-07 were against pretty mediocre opposition?
40 weeks?Ya can't ignore Covid. It's not so scandalous because he picked up Rome & Cincinnati but he got to keep Wimbledon & Madrid from 2019 and Nadal didn't play USO.
There is a realistic chance Nadal would have taken some weeks in a full season.
What will keep it controversial is if Novak finishes say under 40 weeks ahead. Because much of 2020 was not played or played under unusual circumstances.
40 weeks?
I don't get your reasoning. Novak still earned the most points in tourneys played in 2020, and his weeks at #1 were frozen. The record is a career one. Place the milestone (when it officially happens) where you will, but to move the goalposts again is hardly sound, fair reasoning.
Yep, Novak finished the 2020 ATP race with more than a 2000 points advantage. It wasn't even close at the end.
Where did you find this? I was looking for it for a while now. I wish the ranking would be this one, it actually is a better ranking than the one we get now.
Thiem is a clear 2nd for the year, Federer is no way 5th
The whole ranking thing is BS, I mean, Djokovic skipped Paris on purpose to keep 1000 points for 2 years even though the tournament was held. It doesn't make any sense.
Yes it has ^^
Yeahis there any link to APTtour.com or some other official channel managed by ATP?
He was literally a kid. If this is trying to prove Federer had tough competition...
Does Nadal have a peak?
Look at the distribution of his slams over the years: 1, 1, 1, 2, 1, 3, 1, 1, 2, 1, 0, 0, 2, 1, 2, 1
Yeah

Official ATP Rankings and Race points breakdown of Novak Djokovic by tournament and drop date for singles and doubles.www.atptour.com
Look at the 'drop date' column, and any tournament played from Jan-March 2020 will drop off in 2022. This means Djokovic will get full points for ATP Cup and Aus Open, even though ATP Cup won't be played this year and he could theoretically lose R1 in AO.
I don't think Nadal on grass in 2006 is too hard given his lack of experience on the surface. 2007 I think Federer should get huge credit for, was an amazing win.I thought age is just a number
especially for:
- already GS champion
- already the youngest #2 in ATP ranking
are you hating Nadal?
Djokovic, who was head of player council at the time, announced it in an interview. I doubt that the ATP website has a bug which happens to coincidentally reflect what the head of the player council announced. I think the official ATP rule change is buried somewhere in those long PDF documents I linked.I have seen the drop date, but I can't rule out an IT bug for example.
This is where I tried to find some announcement from ATP, but couldn't, unlike with the previous announcement that 2019 points won't drop off in 2020 by default.
I haven‘t found an official announcement either but there are several news reports that reference that the point system remains frozen until MarchI have seen the drop date, but I can't rule out an IT bug for example.

I don't agree with the system. Obviously it is flawed. It is a messed up world indeed when someone thinks a number 1 is determined by results in 5 weeks rather than in a year. Only idiots think he doesn't deserve to be called number 1, because under any points system, he is precisely that.
He didn't. He would be sitting at 322 weeks today if not for Corona. Why is this so hard to get? It's simple math.Great achievement. And he only needed a worldwide pandemic to accomplish it. Well done.
Nobody has won more points than Novak this year.Where did you find this? I was looking for it for a while now. I wish the ranking would be this one, it actually is a better ranking than the one we get now.

Its funny how it turns out Djokovic didn't only benefit but has truly lost 22 weeks or whatever this year as no. 1 since he was still by a mile no. 1 this year.
The ATP Ranking Vs The 2020 ATP Race...
Here you can get the "whole picture". Top 10 looks fairly similar with the exception of Federer and Berrettini.
Covid morons don't get math, don't bother wasting your timeHe didn't. He would be sitting at 322 weeks today if not for Corona. Why is this so hard to get? It's simple math.
No he wouldn’t. There’s a good chance he drops down to number 2 in a normal year. You’re assuming he wins Wimbledon and outperforms Nadal all year.He didn't. He would be sitting at 322 weeks today if not for Corona. Why is this so hard to get? It's simple math.
Yeah most Djokovic fans are a bit embarrassing here. He’s been gifted 4000 points from ATP for 2 slams regardless of result.Great achievement. And he only needed a worldwide pandemic to accomplish it. Well done.
How old are you, 17? Srsly dude...Yeah most Djokovic fans are a bit embarrassing here. He’s been gifted 4000 points from ATP for 2 slams regardless of result.
Certainly not as dominant as Sampras or Federer, who never needed handouts or a weak era to dominate.
It is good then that your opinion doesn't matter one bit on this matter. You and few others here keep embarrassing yourselves, but whatever keeps you asleep at night.Yeah most Djokovic fans are a bit embarrassing here. He’s been gifted 4000 points from ATP for 2 slams regardless of result.
Certainly not as dominant as Sampras or Federer, who never needed handouts or a weak era to dominate.
If you go that route than one can easily say Philippousis, Gonzalez, Baghdatis, 35 yr old Agassi, post 04 Roddick “gifted” Fed like 8 slams.Yeah most Djokovic fans are a bit embarrassing here. He’s been gifted 4000 points from ATP for 2 slams regardless of result.
Certainly not as dominant as Sampras or Federer, who never needed handouts or a weak era to dominate.
Which proves nothing...
Agassi's back was just about broken by then.
His draw in 07 was much tougher. Soderling red lining and Youzhny who at that point had a solid h2h with him along with Novak who was starting to make his presence felt on the tour before retiring the match.
Not to mention, in the final he played a lot better than he did the previous year.
