When the 9.5s were in production I was also buying the Cage 3s. The 9.5s were like a special treat though Cage 3s were not much worse, just a bit heavier. Golden age on Nike shoes for me.

Cage 4 and GP Turbos treated me a lot better than Cage 3 and Vapors. When Vapor cushioning went, it WENT

I remember playing a physical match with my main hitting buddy on a very slow/tacky court in Vapors that still had plenty of tread and uppers were totally intact...I felt like I had stress fractures in both legs

its for the same reason a Jordan 3 or 4 cost $25 more than the 37 with the most up to date tech......becuase they know they can get those extra dollars out of us
not quite a fair comparison as with the Jordans the older models are desired for their aesthetics while with the 9.5 it is about performance

The question is how long they will be available. Some bots are gonna buy multiple and sell on popular auction site.

It's more or less assumed that this is not a special, limited release. And would be followed by seasonal updates like a regular line with Nike.

That is of course, all speculative based on pictures of the next colorway.

It may be about performance to you, but to Nike its a retro and a money grab

Honestly inflation alone can explain the difference lol. They were $140 in 2014, it is almost a decade later

This time around though they have no development cost into the shoe, and even in 10 years it doesn't cost them $30 more to produce a shoe. The profit margin on the 9.5 I guarantee is much more than any of the new Vapor shoes. They could sell this shoe for $70 and still make money, but Nike does their homework. They know at $170 that this shoe will sell out. This shoe wont be in super limited quantities but I bet there will be a cap on how many they manufacture

FWIW, Nike's most expensive tennis shoe right now is $160. So, regardless of our speculative sense of what inflation justifies, if the Vapor 9.5 is going to be $170, it means that Nike is making this their most expensive shoe. I don't know if that's common for re-releases of old models (I would guess not), or if it means that they feel that the Vapor 9.5 is a more premier offering than both the Vapor 11 and the Vapor Pro 2, which frankly would be really odd.

My guess is it's going to be a limited run, and that means higher prices. Maybe they'll see how it does, and perhaps that will drive volume up and prices down.

You're absolutely right. Many manufacturers have increased prices more than inflation would push them to. Think about it: Nike is making this their most expensive tennis sneaker when all the research, design and tech was done over a decade ago. It's all about them making as much money as possible.

I think you guys are underestimating the costs involved in resurrecting the tooling involved in a decade-old shoe that isn't like an AM90/95 that has huge casual appeal. Literally only tennis players know about this shoe.

The more you produce, the lower you can make the price. "economies of scale"

Thanks for the info TW

Thanks for being so patient. I was still waiting from Nike on when we can actually talk about the Vapor 9.5s as there were some restrictions (media embargos). Since they have posted it, I can confirm we will be getting the Vapor 9.5s in that color way. It is scheduled to launch on 3/6 for $170.

Thanks,
Brittany, TW

The profit margin on any Nike shoe is astronomical in terms of manufacturing cost, the cost to Nike is largely in the sponsorship necessary to attract purchasers in the first place.

It's for sale on Nike boys! Buy buy buy!

... And a moment of silence for the 9.5 resellers who've been trying to price gouge us these last few years.

I know this is kind of premium release but what justifies the price almost 2 times higher than GR9?

I'm on the fence: on the one side, I want the performance of that shoe, and I wonder how "limited" this re-release is. Will I miss out if I don't buy? On the other side, I don't like paying full price for any clothing or sneakers given how relatively quickly they go on sale, and I also really dislike the crayon design.

I've noted that the first colorway is noted as "premium." I've seen that before with Nike running shoes and oftentimes it just means that a certain color is more expensive. I wouldn't be surprised if the next colorway is 160 (not that that's much better). That type of pricing is consistent with other Nike "premium" releases.

If I recall (and this is years back so correct me if I'm wrong guys) but Air Jordan 1 manufacturing costs were like $16 a pop?

199 euro is extreme every which way you look at it!
I was surprised this is actually the price in Euros. The converted amount in other regions is around 150-160 euros. For example in the US it's $170, in AUD it's $240.

Just hoping for a clay version :D
You can use the hardcourt 9.5's on clay. Look at the tread pattern. It's herringbone anyway. I read many people say 9.5 HC is fine for clay and almost no point trying to get a clay version. I bought two of the current ones for this reason. One I'll use on clay, the other on HC. Once the heritage colourway drops in April I'll buy like 20 of them to store lol

It’s not the same thing…besides, the clay version had a synthetic upper instead of the mesh in order to avoid clay, it was awesome.
