Oh Marat!!!!

lelopez

Semi-Pro
I actually feel as bad watching him as he does when he plays crappy. Last night I thought about slamming my racquet against the TV during that 2nd set. I mean, I don't think there is another natural ball striker out there today (well, maybe Federer) like he is, but yet he still loses to guys like Dent. I won't take away from Den't play because I think he was stupendous, but Marat's talent should have him up there fighting for the top two positions.

But I guess this is old news, his mental game is definitely why he's been underachieving all these years.

No one felt worse about the way he played than he did. " just the worst match I ever played probably in my entire career. I didn't felt so bad on the court ever, ever in my life." And not one excuse was made, he blamed it on himself, self-blame also being another thing that has interrupted his career.

I fell asleep during the second set, how did that turn out?
I heard I missed a famous safin break n' throw.

Turned out pretty sad. I just got the impression that all Dent had to do was rally from the baseline with Safin, and Safin would miss the third or fourth ball. A couple of times, Safin got down breakpoints (by unforced errors in baseline rallies) but came back; but eventually, he doublefaulted on match point down, serving at 4-5, to give Dent the break and the match.

It was a nice match if you were just looking at Dent, he had some nice volleys and suchlike.

Mental game my foot, they guys has very little talent. Much like his sister the other day against Sharapova, his game is utterly clumsy and ungraceful.

I can't believe people were comparing Safin to Roger in the talent department. Roger played like ca-ca and still managed a relatively easy win.

Unless Marat is 100% focused and is able to bash you over the head with his power, he's lost, as there's very little else he can rely on.

Hey, let's give some credit to Dent, too. He played extremely well, particularly on the big points. His volleys were fantastic, and he put pressure on Safin at the right times. Sure, Safin helped him out a lot w/ crazy errors during completely neutral rallies, but Dent deserved the win.

Safin had a 0-40 chance, did nothing and he looked one-dimensional.
Federer was broken twice in 2 matches, but he was not ca-ca. His opponents were ca-ca.

All these and preceding results prove only one thing I repeated always. Safin doesn't have any talent tennis, only tremendous health and strength. Say as Ferrero, or Gaudio... Where from did u invent that he has talent?

There is an extremely buff (so he has a lot of strength) guy playing tennis and is on C-team. He never gets sick, so he is very healthy. So I guess from your theory, Safin's skills and talent are equal to this healthy strong guy that can barely hit the ball over the net.

Yeah, SO bad he's been doing it for 7 years now. I don't think he REALLY feels bad. Not the way a real champion with pride would feel. He'll feel better when he's out partying tonight. If he really felt bad, he should do something about it, so he doesn't play like this so often.

I wonder how superstitious Marat is. We'll see if he wears that silly hat at the next tournament. With his hair so long, and sticking out on the sides, I think it made him look like a clown.

You're kidding right? That's not excuse? As always from him, each time he loses, it is him playing lousy, condition not good, tired. Can he at least give some credit to Dent? Dent played a very good s/v match yesterday and Safin couldn't adjust to it. No doubt Safin didn't play well, but can it be to some extent due to Dent? There are 2 players on court as I saw.

Thank you for that. I hate seeing Dent for once managed to pull through a consistent performance and win over a top player and yet getting no credits whatsoever, including his opponent.
