OHBH--Anyone recommend the the Wilson 6.1 95 BLX?

Hey guys and gals,

As ya'll know I've been looking for a good OHBH racquet. I currently have the 2015 Blade 18x20, but really want to optimize the swing speed with a smaller head. I got the recommendation of the re-release PS 6.1 95 but it is so hard to find! I have narrowed it down to a few that I have read on the message board, any recs would be greatly appreciated.

Wilson 6.1 95 BLX
Volkl C10 pro
Phantom 93P

Anything else? Thank you,

joe

I have the pronstaff 97 2015 used it for 2 years. I just couldn’t get enough pop on my serve with that racquet. Everything else was great. I am now using the Wilson blade 98 18x20 CV. It gives me control and plow through. It make me hit deep shots and because I’m adding my spin it lands by the base line

Thank you, and do you have a one-hander for BH? Did you add weight to it?

hard to pick a racket for just one stroke but i just switched to the dunlop srixon revo 2.0 and its super headlight balance makes that stroke a lot of fun. also a ton of control over slices. if you've got long whippy strokes in particular i'd say it's hard to do better.

Years ago I had been playing the 6.1 Classic (strung with 17 ga. syn. gut) for a while. Loved that racquet for doubles and for serve and volley play, but realized that I could benefit from a more flexible alternative with similar heft and balance. The softer frames I tried gave me a little more comfort, but also gave me a substantial boost in control around the baseline that I needed.

The C10 was a perfect switch for me at the time and I still use these frames off and on now. Lots of easy power (and superlative comfort) when I want to slug in a singles setting. But the other Volkl model that I use both for playing and almost exclusively when teaching/coaching is the Organix 10 325g. The more current version of that O10 is the V-Sense 10 325g - I also just got a pair of these (on $ale at TW) because my O10's are getting older. I should note that I still string all my own racquets with mostly 17 ga. syn. gut, but I sometimes use 16 ga. in the summer heat. I'm not a poly player at all.

Here's the catch: I didn't much care for these O10's until I added some lead tape to both their hoops and handles. Once I went ahead and did this though, the racquets absolutely came alive for me. After tuning, mine weigh about 12.8 oz. and balance at about 10 pts. HL (rather close to my old 6.1 Classics). Nicely comfortable, better control for me than my C10's, and all the spin that I've ever wanted in any racquet (the C10's will turn the ball, but with a little extra work).

Any racquet I use for hitting a one-handed backhand simply has to have enough weight and inherent stability to work for me. If it's heavy enough to be stable through the ball, it also needs enough HL balance for me to get a familiar degree of handling with it - that's just me.

I've tried to get along with a LOT of different racquets since I parked both the C10 and O10 in my bag. I picked up the PS 97 two years ago and couldn't tune that into a good fit for me, picked up a pair of the 2015 Blade 98 with the 16x19 pattern - no luck, and I also found the more recent generations of the Six.One 95 and even the RF 97 to be just too harsh and demanding compared with my Volkls.

Aside for my strong recommendation for the Volkl options, I think that the Phantom 93P looks interesting as well as the Dunlop Srixon 2.0. I have a soft spot for racquets with a little bit of an old-school design, but I've also found a little less inherent liveliness with frames having smaller hoop sizes. It seems that my 98" Volkls have become my personal "normal", but I'm really not fond of anything larger than these.

Wow. Thank you so much for your reply. I haven’t tried any of the volkls but have been curious about the c10 and now the o10. I think the the company probably makes a great racquet but simply does not spend enough marketing money out there to get players to use it. Have you tried the Wilson ultra tour 97?

Thanks.

I would just stick with the 93P. I have tried them all, literally. The 93P is the best racket in the market right now. I used to be the Head Prestige and Wilson Pro Staff St. Vincent user for many years. I like the 93P better than those two frames and play better with it as well. The only thing I would choose the all-time favorite classic frames over the 93P is the volley. Anything else, the 93P is better, including the OHBH.
As far as Volkl goes, I really, really likd the PowerBridge 10 Mid, but the 93P does everything better or just as well and is much easier frame to hit with. The 93P is a superb frame that will upgrade the fun factor.

Philipp Kohlschreiber hits a darn good 1HBH with the Six.One (not sure what "flavor" lies under his current PJ)... Shapovolov used it 1H as well before switching to Yonex.

The 93P pales in comparison to the six one. It’s not even close. Hunt for them on the bay. Of the 10 I’ve recently purchased, 5 were in mint condition ..... they all play similarly. From the kfactor on up.

I didn't like the BLX model as much as the 2015, and I don't like the Prostaffs as much as the 2015. The other ones either felt a bit twisty or wimpy in comparison. This is nit picking, as they are all pretty similar.

I also think the C10 is a downgrade from the 2015, but I could see where people might prefer the more traditional feel mixed with the somewhat loopiness of the C10. It's not for me, but I think it's an interesting frame that hits a sort of unique old-fashioned controlled spinner with ease.

I play with the 18x20 Blade. It's a good OHBH racket.

I was a long time user of the 6.1 95 BLX (16x18) as well as the other past iterations of this racket.

I'm currently using the Prince Phantom Pro 100P and find that I hit better and more consistent topspin and slice OHBH's with this racket than any of the 6.1 95's I used for many years.

The PP100P doesn't have the pop of the 6.1, but I really like the feel, ease and improved consistency of hitting OHBH's with this racket.
