Ohio State vaporized USC today. They look unstoppable at the moment.

The doubles matches were the closest I have seen any team play them, but the singles was an absolute beatdown. OSU is on fire right now, and very confident. However, they haven't played outside or played much out of their facility, so that could impact a match. But right now they are the clear favorite for indoors.

Big bump for the Buckeyes is the performance of Alex Kobelt, Peter's "little" brother. Alex was a unheralded 3 star recruit who some believed received a courtesy invite to the team because of Peter. Three years with the program and the light seems to have come on. He has replaced Siebert in the lineup, has been on fire at the #2 dubs and unbeatable at the #5 singles line.
Also the maturity of JJ Wolf is noteworthy. He can generate pace off both sides, his forehand has always been a weapon, with agility off the charts. First two years Wolf could hit periods when his play was erratic, mechanics fell apart. I glimpsed a bit of that vs. Arizona State, when he dropped his serve twice and lost the 2nd set to Pasha in a breaker, but JJ roared back in super breaker 10-0. That is the only set Wolf has lost so far this year at # 1 line.

Yes, Kobelt is playing the best I have ever seen him play, as well as Tubert. They are a powerful depth in the lineup right now, and it allows the other guys to be a little more aggressive. Really interesting to watch

I figured that the Buckeyes would go all the way one of these seasons. Maybe this is the year. Perhaps they will be on the Big Ten Network; I can catch them there.

Yes, unfortunately OSU can only play well indoors. put them outside and they choke in the wind or other elements

Noticed a difference in the lineup, Bucks paired Kobelt and Seelig at no. 2 dubs vs Texas yesterday and it worked.
Huge assignment today!
Go Bucks!

Let's see how good Ty is at coaching. I don't think he knows tennis very well. We will see if his coaching makes the difference with better singles lineup on the other side.

Yes of course. That wasn’t the point.
Ohio State won with a bunch of regular *******/middle of the country kids. Very impressive.
OSU has no chance in the NCAA tournament. Again close but no cigar, always the bridesmade, never the bride. what is going on there ?

JJ wolf carried the team today. not ty
Actually it was a great team effort. Every member of the team, the coaches, the families, the community. That team is absolutely not just 1 person or everyone for themselves. Sad you think that about a TEAM.

McNally was key in winning dubs. It was 1-1 dubs and McNally was serving down 4-5 at deuce after being up 40-30. He held for 5-5 and then the pair won the TB. It really looked like Wake would win dubs, but OSU held strong. Wake was making a determined comeback bid in singles. If OSU had not won dubs, the match could have turned. Too bad we could not watch McNally play singles. Everyone talks about how great a player Petros is and I am not disagreeing, but McNally took the 1st set.

Agree with @Okes, OSU is a team effort. JJ/Joyce didn't play the best dubs the last two matches, but that was OK, OSU is deep enough for another line to cover if needed.

Umm. They just won. I’m not an Ohio State person but have to comment on your extremely rude and sour grapes. You are an embarrassment to Stanford.
of course you are not OSU person....LOL. No worries on your precious, regarding Stanford. That is all I need to say and no more. You know very little from sound of it. ALSO, it isn't sour grapes either, as OSU didn't take the cardinal out of the tournament. Just telling you the truth,,,, so many years in the past, when OSU had even better team than now,,, they failed to bring home the big prize...... WHY or why...??? wonder wonder ???

This year the NCAAs will be at the neutral Lake Nona site-having the NCAAs last year at Wake probably gave Wake an edge in a close match. Now if Florida reaches the top 8, they will probably have the most fans, but Orlando is an easy site to travel too, so all the elite 8 may have a decent crowd-fans can combine tennis with Disney, Universal, beach, et al. As long as OSU adjust to outdoors, they have a great shot at the championship this year.

Also if Stanford is so good, what is happening to recent Stanford players at Challengers? Why is it that UCLA, USC, OSU, Wake etc players are having more success? Klahn may be doing great but he left Stanford 8 years ago. What has Stanford done for pro players lately? Fawcett is losing in 1st rd of MD $25Ks. Prior to college Geller was ITF world jr #1 while JJ Wolf's highest ITF jr ranking was 18, but which has been developed at college and won a Challenger? Geller lost in the 1st Quali rd of 2 challengers, and lost in the 1st rd MD when he got a WC to a Challenger. My personal opinion is that Stanford is a great school, but it is harder for players to balance its academics and tennis, and you dont see Stanford players taking off all fall to play pro tourneys (Geller played mainly in summer with a little bit of activity in Sept /Oct). In the long run, the Stanford players will probably have great job earning $$$$ but in the short run, they probably will have less tennis success than if they'd gone to UCLA or USC. Rotsaert is playing well, but it will be interesting to see if his level goes up or down after a year at the farm....

I am not saying he is a bad coach. just saying with all those great players on the lineup past and present, why hasn't he won the big one even just once ?
You’re championing a team that hasn’t won a national championship in a generation. Couldn’t you say the same thing about Goldstein?

It's so interesting how people respond to Nostradamus and take him seriously. I find him funny. Don't take the bait, people. Right now the NCAAs are a four team race: OSU, Wake, UVa and Texas. Columbia had a helluva indoors.

Goldstein just started as head coach just few years ago and never had the top talent that Tucker had for years. no comparison there. if Goldstein had the talent Ty had, he would have won 2-3 championships already

Yeah, without an ignore function, you just have to use his/her posts for comedic purposes.

Congrats to the Buckeyes - looks like the rest of us are playing for 2nd again in the B1G.

It’s not going to get any easier - they have a great recruiting class coming in next year.

so, you are saying that Stanford hasn’t had any talent the last few years? So why do you keep trumpeting “Fawcett is going to dominate, Geller is going to dominate, etc.”? According to you, they aren’t as talented. Maybe you’ve hitched your wagon to the wrong horse.

I am not on any band wagon, you don't get it. Also, they did have talent but having 1 or 2 players that are talented doesn't cut it against teams of the past like Wake forest, OSU, and Virginia witih 6-7 talented players on the team. OSU had 3-4 serious talent on the team in the past, and Ty still hasn't won the NCAA title.

You want it both ways. You champion a team on the decline and are critical of one on the rise. It’s not a good look being a hater, Nostradamus. Ohio State will get a title eventually, and I guarantee it will be long before Stanford does.

So you are saying OSU will win it this year ?? because the Cardinal will win it this year so I can't understand the logic. Two teams can't win the championship at the same time... Unless you are referring to OSU women's team ??? I don't think they are that good plus I haven't heard that Ty will be coaching the women's team ??

If I may interject 34 years of public school teaching here--I often found that when someone is very annoying, the thing to do is ignore. An annoying person often behaves so because they are looking for attention. Reacting to such a person just stirs the pot, and makes it worse; ignoring often will cause that person to go looking for greener pastures (or tennis courts ; ). But then, I was just a high school teacher. For many, that doesn't mean much.

So you're admitting OSU players are more talented than Stanford players, and it's not even comparable. Is that correct?

Cardinal will win it this year with much less talent. Not even comparable talent.....these are your own words.

Happy For OSU and for Ty! They have been real close every year, and finally pulled through. Yesterdays match was a matter of points, it goes to show how close these things really are. OSU program has been getting more and more support over the years, and once they have their new facility built it will enable more fans and especially more students to participate in the matches.

Still a lot of season left and a couple of sleeper teams on the schedule this week in Kentucky and Notre Dame, so they are going to need to quickly refocus.

Also, I think they need to figure out 2 doubles, Is Seelig/Kobelt the permanent solution? Outdoors will be interesting as there are other teams built for the outdoors like Columbia, Florida, and Texas. I think these teams will be much more of a factor come May, and I think Wake, UNC, USC, UCLA, Miss St and probably a few others will come on strong in the end. But for now the Bucks are hands down the hottest team!

He is one of the best coaches of all time, if not the best. look at his roster. and what the players rankings were before coming to ohio state. for example, Alex Kobelt was something like 300 in just the mid west before coming to school. And he is winning matches against top 16 teams.

It's crazy that they have a match tomorrow already. No time at all to celebrate the indoor title.

The problem for Ohio State going forward will be their schedule just getting weaker and weaker as they head toward May. The Big Ten will not provide them many big tests. Playing Purdue indoor is a lot different than playing Florida or UCLA outdoor in the heat. May is still 3 months away and a lot can change when the season moves outdoor. This is always the biggest challenge for Ohio State.

Totally, so weird they turn around and play again. And Kentucky and Notre Dame at that, then Texas on the road! That match will be a barometer for how they do outdoors, they lost that one a few years ago in Austin. I think if they blow them out, we know...If its close or they lose, it will be telling.

I agree don't think the BIG is very strong....Only Illinois made the indoors: no Michigan (That was the Tulane draw!), no Minnesota, no NW; Penn State, Indiana, Purdue and Iowa are average and Nebraska and Michigan State are like MM's. And almost all their matches will be indoors, which is their strong suit. They make the elite 8, but it could be real difficult for them as there are a dozen teams that could be rolling in outdoors play by then. I think they are really good, with a solid top of the lineup, but doubles barely escaped a couple of matches and the bottom of the lineup is more heart then talent right now; some other teams have more talented players... I could be wrong...Ty always seems to get guys to play beyond their means, so its going to be interesting to watch.

You have answered your own question. Stanford players have not been that good, plain and simple. Since like 2010 there have been maybe 3 players total from Stanford that even tried to go pro (Bradley Klahn, Alex Clayton, and Tom Fawcett now) and neither really made it yet. The team comprises of very good juniors, but there are dozens players like that. Given that the fact that they are competing with USC/UCLA/Virginia/Wake Forest (they almost beat WF last year at the indoor championship) is a testament to the coaching staff.
