Today, andy Roddick looked like a new man. He has accomplished one of his life long dream of winning the Davis Cup. He looked like a new REBORN andy Roddick. So with this win behind him and with new found Confidence, Can andy Roddick win a Grand Slam in 08 ?? and Can Roddick finally beat Roger Federer and win Wimbledon like he was supposed to do before this Federer fellow came along ?? I think he can.:)

I thought it was the same Roddick, Tursonov just played like crap. No slam for Roddick.

Might want to *Spoiler Alert* this too, I didn't watch it until this morning.

I will have to say no on that one. Unless Fed, Nadal, and Djokovic get injured at the same time or suffer shock losses....

I think with this new found confidence, andy will beat Federer in the finals of wimbledon 08 and proclaim " I AM NOBODY'S PIGEON"

I don't think he can. He is still... Roddick.

I think Roddick's gonna win another slam, not next year though, and maybe at Australia or at the US Open.

assuming that all those players you mentioned had a very unhealthy 2008... I feel like guys like Nalbandian, Gasquet, Gonzalez, Berdych or the always surprising Marat Safin are closer to win slams next year than Roddick will ever be

Roddick cannot beat Federer. At least not next year. It is possible that next year Fed will get stunned at some point at the USO or Wimbledon and Roddick would have a great chance then. But IMO Roddick is less a threat to Fed now than he was in 04'.

i disagree roddick is way more consistant in slams than all of those guys stated above. However some of them, might have the game to win a slam and u know ultimately stop federer or nadal. I dont think this davis cup will get him confidence, He didnt really play the cream of the crop from russia. And it wasn't dramatic. Like if he won on clay. This davis cup win, will make up for his to his high standards a dissapointing year. I always thought the usa had one of the best squads, and it confused me why they havent been so dominant over the last 12 years. I know they suck at clay, but still. I"m happy for roddick and the davis cup team

GOOOO USA!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know. IN the past, many players have turned their career around after leading their country to Davis cup victory. The win gave them something special, like something intangible that they lacked. It is not just confidence, it is something more than that, something in their HEART that they didn't believe they had prior to winning the Davis cup. If Andy Roddick can find this in his heart, i believe he will beat Federer at Wimbledon next year, even though it maybe the one and only time.:)

I don't think his chance at Grand Slams gets bigger because he led US to Davis Cup victory; it's more complicated than that.

Roddick's biggest obstacle is Federer... he needs to come up with a good game plan against Fed, then maybe he'll have some healthy chance at GS!

We dont even know if roddick will make it to the final next year at wimbledon to face federer. I see more potential with murray or nalbandian than roddick. Im a fan of roddick but his game seems to be regressing into old habits which isnt a good sign at all.

hey what about the way he sliced and slow roll topspined Tursunov in the 1st match. He played Retriever, that tells you that he can change his game, right.?

roddick can do that aganist regular opponents, but hes not good enough to do that aganist top 3 or 4 players. This also kills his body, because hes 6 2 200 pounds. He just focus on improving, and hopefully he will have a grandslam of his life, and win won. Even though nadal federer and djoker are better players than him, that still doesnt mean he cant beat them.

There is only one player who can consistently defeat Roddick, Federer. So, in order for him to have a chance to win a major Federer must be eliminated or not play at all. And since that never happens to Fed, no more majors for Roddick.

Roddick has always had heart and has been playing with confidence for some time. He lacks that level of talent that Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic have, and that is why he isn't able to win more slams. It isn't a lack of heart or confidence.

wut i believe is that since roddick has won the us open, on a winning team in davis cup, and become number one....he has one more dream he wants to complete is wimbledon...i think roddick has the game...he has to get back to the game that got him there...idk wut the hey happened to him...im a big roddick fan...and i didnt like the way he played some points vs tursunov.

he spins his forehand too much for his game, his backhand is of course improved but doesnt take advantage of it...he should put that huge body into that shot, serve is obviously there, and he of course didnt have a great year for his standards...but i think if he keeps workin hard and keeps putting on the miles there are more slams for this man...

The way he played Federer at the US open this year, it was so close, if that was at wimbledon, i believe Roddick would have won.

IMHO, the answer to your question is no. Unless every player in the top 15 gets the flu at the same slam...he'll never win another one....even then, I don't think he'd win...sorry....just my honest opinion

There is only one player who can consistently defeat Roddick, Federer.

Nadal schooled Roddick earlier this year on hard courts, the surface Roddick has his best chance vs Nadal on. Nadal would beat Roddick almost anytime they played these days, Roddick would need a very fast hard court like the U.S Open to have any hope whatsoever.

Djokovic won his only meeting with Roddick so far, I expect him to regularly beat Roddick in the future from now on should they meet. He is probably better then Roddick in every surface now.

No Slam For Roddick

Andy's win over a marginal Tursenov is not the recipe for a grand slam win. Roddick's next slam win will come when the top five guys fail to show for the tournament.

USO is his best chance If Fed gets upset or injured, but he still has to get through guys like Djokovic,Nadal,Ferrer,Murray and Nalbandian.I don't see it happening but anything is possible in tennis.

god damn!!!!!!!!!!

stop with this whole is roddick gonna win a slam again.

NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!

NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!

not talented enough to ebat roger or rafael.

Wimbledon is slower then the U.S Open. Roddick would have lost even more easily playing the same match.

Agreed. Roddicks best shot at taking out federer will be the open or maybe this years Australian depending on how quick the surface is. Wimbledon is so much slower now its ridiculous. Why dont they jsut make wimbledon clay.

They need to put in those speedy Bermuda grass back in. or even better make it taflon tough synthetic Grass.

I dont see why some people think that Nadal and Djokovic are head and shoulders better than Roddick is. Djokovic is one of my favorite players, but he's had one great year, and one best of 3 set victory over Roddick. Djokovic sucked at the last 3 tournaments, as did Nadal. Nadal is where he is because of those 3 french open titles. Im not taking anything away from Nadal, because he is infact an amazing competitor, but he could still lose to Roddick on any given day. If Roddick brings his game the way he did this year at the Open vs Federer, he probably would have wiped the floor with both Nadal and Djokovic. I think next year will really prove if Djokovic is going to hang around the top 5 or not. He better get his butt back in gear if he wants to. The only guy who is consistently dominant against Andy is Federer. Roddick could definitely win another slam. The way he played Tursinov yesterday was strategy. Yeah, so he won ugly, but he still won, and tursinov wasnt coming up with the goods, so why change a formula thats working? We all know Roddicks capable of flattening out the forehand when he wants to. He was just playing to tursinov's weaknesses. Thats strategy.

RODDICK MIGHT NOT WIN. BUT HELL HE'S HELL MORE CONSISTENT IN REACHING QUARTERFINALS OR SEMIFINALS ON HIS FAVORITE COURTS.

You forget that. You guys always love your stupid one hit wonder crap.
Grow up, see why the guy is ranked higher then those inconsistent lazy players.

Im not a Roddick lover, but he is consistent, and most of you forget that

^^Yea, he consistantly beats guys ranked below him. If it wasn't for Federer, he would have won 3 Wimbledons by now.

If Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Nalbandian, Murray, all go to Australia for vacation and all get eaten by a Crocodile then maybe he can win 1 more before he retires. Otherwise NO NO NO NO NO and NO.

What he is consistent at is losing to top 10 players, not just Federer. He needs to avoid the big guns or he is gone. His big runs are with joke draws.

Yeah is that why Djokovic came much closer to Federer in the final then Roddick did. I didnt notice Roddick having set points in the first 2 sets like Djokovic did. Roddick in no form will wipe any floor with Djokovic or Nadal.

The only way Roddick will win a grand slam is if Federer somehow gets injured or someone miraculously beats Federer in a grand slam but he would also have to contend with Nadal, Djokovic, Nalbandian and Ferrer who all have given Roddick trouble in the past.

You didn't watch those matches then.
Federer was clearly playing better tennis against Roddick than against Joker

Federere was hitting some really sick passing shots that day. but andy was telegraphing his approach shots. i could see federer moving to where andy was going to hit the approach before roddick hit the ball.

Well Roddick will need a serious boost of heart or whatever it is that you're talking about. Federer has basically made him look like a little girl at the slams since the start of 05'. It doesn't appear to be getting better either. Their meetings at the Aussie and USO were formalities, and Roddick hasn't been able to get far enough at Wimbledon to even get a crack at Fed.

The Federer dominance of Roddick has nothing to do with intangibles. It is very, very tangible as to what Roddick needs to beat Fed: A backhand, a forehand, some movement, some volleys, a return.

I'm with you though. If I could see Roddick beat Fed at Wimbledon and hoist the trophy it would be sweet indeed. Not holding my breath though.

i highly, highly doubt it. i won't say it will never happen, because i think he has the ability to win a slam if he played his best tennis, but i just don't see it happening. he is just not good enough to beat the best players out there.

Davis Cup means a lot because it's best of 5 and there is a huge amount of pressure, moreso than any Slam, so it's a big indicator of how mentally tough the guy is.

That being said, he'll have to be pretty damn lucky to ever win a Slam. The top players will have to get knocked out first.
