Ok, Roddick creamed Ferrero, but..

Ferrero aced Roddick quite a few times, too. It was funny, because Ferrero's serving swing speed was clearly half of what Roddick's was. Still, he aced him many times, too. That would (could) mean the POG Longbody is more of a serve imporoving raquet than what the Pure Drive Plus is. Hummm.

Ummm who needs to when you can bomb 141mph serves out wide??? which he showed numerous accounts of. And besides his reaction is just as good as anyone elses, maybe a slight bit slower on his backhand side.

Ripper - remember, it's not all about speed. Spin, placement, and variety can be just as deadly.

But, 140 hitting me in the chest wouldn't be an ace, but it would surely win the point if not the match right then and there.

Roddick has a faster swing speed than Federer, but Federer can ace anyone. So is the nSix-One Tour a better serve improving racquet than the Pure Drive Team Plus?
Also From where I was sitting you could see the ball had so much spin on it. Most of Ferrero's aces were slice/kick serves. When he would go for a big flat serve most of the time he would miss it long. Most of the flat serves that he got in were in the high 120's. Roddick hit most of his serves around 130 (saw the speed at 131 many times). I think I only saw the speed gun over 140 once for Roddick, and Ferrero hit 130+ a couple of times (all out). It was like on the Ferrero aces Roddick was ready for a big flat serve and Ferrero hit a slice/kick away from him and he couldn't get to it. I think that Roddick needs to read the serve better. He broke Ferrero because Ferrero wasn't playing that well. The Ferrero that beat Nadal would have gave him more of a run.

I think Aces are one of the dumbest statistics to look at and use to compare serve quality.

If you compare the number of aces of Roddick with another player early in a match they are usually very close. If you compared untreturnable serves, that tells more of the story.

If you compare serves that set up an easy put away, then Roddick is way up there.

I think you guys are crazy if you don't think Roddick has one of the most effective serves the sport has ever seen.

My post is a little off topic, but I have been looking for somewhere to post this.

Roddick definitely has one of the top 5 best serves ever. It's arguably the best on tour right now. Gonzo said it was in a press conference, but Karlovic and Ljubicic will have something to say about that. I'll take Roddick over either of them. Maybe it doesn't get him as many aces, but it definitely gets him more unreturnables and easy putaways.

Roddicks serve out wide is deadly, even when theres not that much pace he can slide it out wide with a devastating angle.
