Old Matches on DVD or Download

Does anyone know of anywhere to buy high quality video of old matches either on DVD or digital download? I'm interested in almost any Borg match, but am really interested in finding any match between Borg and Vilas. I already have the Wimbledon Borg vs. McEnroe matches.

Check this guy out. kurtd@australiaonline.net.au
He's got 300 old matches on dvd and says the quality overall is pretty good.
I won't really know until I decide what to trade him from my collection soon.
Maybe tell me what you have already. I've got the high quality '77 Wimbledon Borg/Gerualitis semi.

I hear Rick Sasha comes highly recommended, but I've yet to buy anything from him. Was it Moose that had good things to say about him?

Crabgrass, you seem like a real lover tennis! Great to see such a collection! More power to you!:-)

Don't you all think it's impossibly sad though that so many fantastic, full length matches from the 50s and onwards just sits gathering dust on the shelves at broadcast-centres all around the globe -- completely unavailable to for commercial purchase by the general public? I think it's an outrage. A complete outrage. Such arrogant disrespect from the owners of these hidden treasures.

You practically have to be a "Indiana Jones-tennis-archeologist-adventurer" to get your fascinated hands on any of these hidden treasures.

Imagine having a somewhat complete collection of Lew Hoads amateur and pro career-matches -- or Laver's -- you name them...

I think there's huge business to made here and massive pent-up public demand. A market yet unexplored.

So now were forced to shenanigans to at least get some of gold dust left on the floor...

To the problem, Borforever addresses: Its indeed a shame, that so many matches are hidden in the catacombs of TV archives all over the world. I think, the London based IMG, which ran the World Wide Sports coverage on tv, has the right on many of them.

agree 100 %
i have a friend in germany who collects old football matches and has bought matches straight from the tv networks...unfortunetly it seems like a very pricey exercise....minimum hundreds of dollars for a single match.
Here in Australia we only have about 6 channels (unless you subscribe to pay TV) and every night at 12am through to the early morning they continuesly run the same Infocomercials about fatblasters, AB rockers and victoria principle skin creams.
Who seriously is interested in seeing this same crap night after night.
instead of this drivel Couldnt the networks open up their vaults and broadcast some classic old sporting events.
At least in the US or europe you can get espn classic or the tennis channel
for footage of old matches...over here despite having such a great tennis history the average person today has never even seen more than a few moments of film of laver, emerson, rosewall, court etc.

Shenanigens indeed!

Ash, a while ago, on iTunes, they had some classic Wimbledon matches up for sale (Borg v Mac '80 , Jimmy v Ashe '75 etc) in GREAT quality. They took them off a few weeks ago, but I heard rumors that they were bringing them back.

Gueil, of course, is highly recommended by me: http://gueil.wordpress.com/

Good guy and constantly keeps adding new material. Not everything is in good quality (though the newer matches tend to be), but pretty much everything is watchable.

The two great Borg-Mac Wimbledon finals are in very good quality.

I'm desesperatley looking for videos of these 3 matches :

- Vilas / Sadri Australian Open 1979, Final
- Vilas / Mcenroe Davis Cup 1980 in Buenos Aires
- Vilas / Mcenroe Davis Cup 1983 in Buenos Aires

I'd really like to get the 2003 Indian Wells match between Hewitt and El Aynaoui on DVD at some point but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

This is the match where Hewitt was defending champion and world number 1, and was drawn against the man who had just beaten him in the fourth round of the 2003 Australian Open. Hewitt had to win this match against El Aynaoui at Indian Wells or he'd have lost his number 1 ranking. Hewitt trailed 4-6, 3-5, and saved 3 match points in the second set before eventually coming back to win 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. Hewitt went on to win the tournament.

Does anyone have this Hewitt vs. El Aynaoui match from 2003 Indian Wells on DVD?
