Used these wooden paddles with a needled out ball back in the 70s. Who woulda guessed it would return for seniors?

Was this not an implement employed for punishing unruly or recalcitrant children back in the 70s? Sometimes used as a marital aid?
My punishment was getting clipped in the right ear by a paddle. What A Rush!

Btw, played using a pierced/needled if-you-will ball.................................or two, on a racquetball court. Later that summer discovered three walled handball. Still have both eyes

Is that Paddle ball or Padel Tennis (originated in Mexico). Paddle ball uses a plastic, softball-sized ball with air holes. Padel, popular in Latin America, Spain and other parts of Europe, uses a ball that appears to be something of a low-compression tennis ball. The paddle appears to be similar for these two sports.
