Think Stefanos has the best draw. Med's toughest of the top 4( his quarter also has Cilic). Djokovic's okay for his campaign.

Zverev might go down in R3 Or quarters if he is not careful.

Novak draw with all the withdrawals is semi masters -Struff,Mussetti,Riblev,Zverev,Medvedev/Tsitsipas. You,ll at least expect to have a easy draw first 2 rounds. On the other hand Zverev draw is absurdly weak as if they rigged it.Medvedev has tough draw also .

Hopefully either Kohlschreiber or Tiafoe beats Tsitsipas.

Djokovic has a decent draw, as others before me have already pointed out - Rublev/Zverev/Medvedev in the QF/SF/F based on the respective seedings.

Murray vs FAA 1st round - lets see how that goes.

People are saying it's a tough draw for Djokovic, but I looked at the betting odds and Djokovic is rated as a better chance to win Olympic Gold than he was to win Wimbledon. Even though it's hard court and best of 3 sets. Doesn't make sense.

Yeah that definitely is bizarre.

Zverev/Rublev/Karatsev are not only better in Bo3 they’re a lot better, a lot more likely to be able to pull the upset in 3 than 5 sets.

Doesn’t make sense? Explain to me how you think the bookies are going to bet against the number one player in 2021 who also won the last 3 slams including Wimbledon weeks ago.

Obviously he should be favorite, but I don't get why he's a bigger favorite here than he was at Wimbledon. Best of 3 and hard court favors the younger players.

Sorry that came off rough, it’s easier to make him a higher favourite and risk losing less if he does indeed win which is greater than 51%

Of course Djokovic has a tough draw here.

Here is the reason: for the top-4 seeds, they should get through 1st three rounds regardless. SF and F are tough opponents regardless how you look at it. Key here is quarter final (QF) opponent. Among the 4 QF opponents, I rate Rublev as toughest on hard court in best of 3 format. Plus QF is the middle of 3 consecutive playing days (no rest days).

That’s why Djokovic having a tough draw.

In 5 tries, Struff has taken a total of 1 set off of Nole. Meanwhile - Tiafoe has taken 2 after one match.

Who is calling Struff a hard draw

QF to F for Novak is really tough. I think he will pull through, but any of those guys can take him out in Bo3. Rublev is a total unknown vs. Novak too so we'll see

Happy that Stefanos's draw isn't so brutal. I'll be rooting for him in this one - should also have a good shot at the mixed doubles :notworthy:

Yes, but it's tough for everyone. The only one to have an easy QF is Medvedev, and that's a maybe.

Some interesting matches in the first round...

Bublik v. Medvedev - the first has had a great year by his standards and the second has had a so-so year giving his ranking
Murray v. FAA - tough draw for a former world no. 1
Fucsovics v. Hurkacz - two players having break out years
Rublev v. Nishikori - a new top 10 fixture (?) v. a former top 10 fixture

when’s the first match? Tomorrow?
Saturday the 24th

July 24-25: First round
July 26-27: Second round
July 28: Third round
July 29: Quarterfinals
July 30: Semifinals
July 31: Bronze medal match
August 1: Gold medal match

This means potentially 4 days in a row of matches. It's only BO3 (including the final), but it would be a lot of matches for a 34 year old

Yet another reason to tune into tennis at the Olympics....... It looks like we are going to get our first taste of Rublev vs Djokovic as a matchup.

It will be very interesting to see how the Russian fares. Probably the best "big tournament" setting for him to launch his first all-out attack on Djokovic. He won't have to hold his level for 4+ hours like he might have to at a major.

only if he deals with nishi which won't be easy imo

Haha. Aside from the fact that the O’s suck, looks like a walk in the park. I’m going to really go out on a limb here…and go ahead and predict gold for Djokovic. Despite the murderers row, lol

You do realise that Djokovic loves playing guys like rublev, right??.
Huge pace but questionable consistency & no angles.

Djokovic has a murderer’s row of next gen players.

In other words, he has a soft draw.

Only half-kidding with that one.
Agree, another draw where he avoided prime Sampras, peak Fed, Mc, Safin, monstrous Hewitt and others... :sneaky:

Lucky guy has only 3 top five players in the world in his draw to complete...

Hmm took a little shine off it. But definitely no point in keeping finals bo5 while the entire tourney is bo3

It takes some of the shine off it for me, too.

I admit that for me the better approach would be to keep the final as a showcase best of 5 format, but I'm still amazed at the logistics of putting the Olympics on in the current climate at all so I'm grateful for the whole event.

It seems like they made the Bo3 decision quite a while ago (pre virus) so may be another example of shortening the game for the huge additional casual audience that don't normally watch tennis but will tune in for the men's gold medal match.

He needs quick wins not to risk exhausting himself before the final. No more slow start please.
