Olympic medal predictions

Now with the biggest grass event over what are peoples predictions for the Olympic medals for both men and women. Serena and Federer both have in common chasing the only major thing neither has won, the Olympic singles gold. Mine would be:

Womens singles:

Gold- Serena Williams. Will be hungry for it and cant be stopped when she wants something badly enough.

Silver- Maria Sharapova- First Olympics, will want to make the most of it, and come back from poor Wimbledon.

Bronze- Kim Clijsters- First and only Olympics, likewise will put all she has into it.

Mens singles:

Gold- Roger Federer. With Nadal playing poorly on grass right now, the best of 3 format, and his form at Wimbledon there isnt much to stop him. Perhaps only Djokovic.

Silver- Novak Djokovic. Will miss out on gold at the Olympics again.

Bronze- Andy Murray. Will be spurred on to medal in front of home crowd.

Womens doubles:

Gold- Venus and Serena

Mens doubles:

Gold- Bryan and Bryan

Women:

Gold- Serena
Silver- Sharapova
Bronze: Azarenka

Men:

Gold- Sir Rogi (the forecast is bleak, 2/3 set indoor grass!!!)
Silver- Milos Raonic (indoor grass)
Bronze- Novak Djokovic

Doubles:

Men- Gold: Sir Rogi/Stan the Man
Silver: Nestor/Pospisil
Bronze: Bryan/Bryan

Women: Gold: Williams team

Sometimes after a huge victory it takes a lot to motivate yourself again. At wimbledon, Fed might have been the hungriest of the top 4. I predict this will be different at the Olympics. Rafa will be raring to win something on grass, Andy will be looking to avenge his defeat and Djoker will be looking for his 1st gold.

I predict Fed WILL NOT win the gold at the Olympics.

Nadal and Djokovic will be back roaring. Not sure if Murray and Federer can recover emotionally and physically.

Just have a feeling that Nadal will come out brutal after that freak loss.

Gold Medal is pretty meaningless IMO. Glad Roger won the biggest prize in Wimbledon. The reverse would have been much worse.

I hope you are right but I dont feel it was just a freak loss. Every match he played on grass this year he looked awful, not even one did he look alright. He looked like Federer on grass in 2010, no baseline game on grass at all, only a serve. For once Nadal will probably be happy to get back onto the hard courts.

I think Fed and Murray will be seriously beaten up after this Wimbledon, I don't either of them contending for the Gold medal at Olympics.

I think it was honestly too early to tell about Nadal's grass form. He usually loses early in the Wimbledon warmup tournament, and he's had a tough couple first rounds in Wimbledon most years. What happened this time was instead of caving in like most players who give Nadal trouble in the first couple rounds Rosol did the opposite and produced amazing tennis. So I think it's still to be determined how Nadal is really playing.

You don't have Fed winning a medal at all? I think it's more like Cvac is winning gold,Fed is winning silver, and Murray is winning bronze. I wouldn't be surprised if Fed wins the gold, though.

Djoko will be super motivated after what happened in the Wimb. Let's hope even Nadal is.

Either way, Olympics is not that important. Us Open is what counts and I think Djoko and Nadal will be primed for that. Rafa, however, has to stop playing pusher tennis. Did the loss to Rosol get anything into his thick skull?

I doubt it. As Nadal fans we have been on this merry go round with him before. I think he's going to be even worse at the olympics because of the confidence hit he took by losing the way he did. I do not have high hopes for him throughout the olympics, the summer hc season,or the USO. He's going to crash out early at every one of those tournaments,I just know it.

Draw makes a big difference. If Nole and Rafa are in the same half, it'll be very unpredictable. Roger's looking good, but so is Andy. I'd go with Andy. Same crowd support, less pressure I think.

I don't really care to watch the rest, especially because it's the Olympics and once in every 4 years chance to see some things not interesting outside this competition.

I don't want to predict anything but I will be rooting for Roger. Who knows if Roger will be playing in Rio so I really want him to win it now.

I wouldn't write Nadal off and not sure Fed will now win Gold, but he's in with a strong shout for a medal.

Seems one consensus of everyone is Serena is the ladies singles gold medalist.

Exactly.

Plus Nadal served better than he ever has in his life. He hit 22 aces in the loss to Rosol which I think is a personal best for him. If he can fine tune his game in the first 2-3 rounds he will be extremely tough to beat at the Olympics.

That said, the best of 3 format doesn't suit him too well and chances are he'll peak at the US Open where he plays just fine.

Mens Singles
Gold: Nadal
Silver: Fed
Bronze: Someone not Novak or Murray, maybe Tsonga (since when have the supposed to wins won all the medals lol)

Womens Singles
Gold: Serena...(although I say this with lil confidence, after 2008 against Dementieva anything can happen)
Silver: Sharapova
Bronze: No clue, I wanna say Vika but I could see a shocker here to

Mens doubles
Gold: Bryans
Silver: Bhupathi and Bopana
Silver: Murrays or Fed/Wawa

Womens doubles
Gold: The Williams (unless Venus crashes)
Silver: Errani/Vinci
Bronze: I was hoping Huber/Raymond but realistically probs not

Mixed
Gold and Silver go to Bryans and Whomever they are partnered with whether it be a Williams or Huber/Raymond, Either them or Paes/Mirza I think itd opeb

Some hopes:

I want kim to do well but after a Kerber beatdown I seriously doubt it
Paola Suarez is playing Doubles with Dulko...I kind of hope she does well
I honestly would love Huber/Raymond to be gold medalists...but it ain't gonna happen sadly.

[bI] would.[/b] His grass court game has regressed about 7 years back.

Tell me something I don't know. you write him off all the time, even in clay season where it was obvious to everyone with eyes that he would clean up.

As for his loss at wimbledon, he has always struggled early on. One time it went against him. Big deal.

Btw, if I totally wrote him off you'd just be having a go at me for gloating over nadal's woes and being negative. So we'll just have to continue this usual game we play

Men's gold: andy Murray--best of 3 format will favor him and england will help him win
silver -- Novak
bronze --Jo wilfred Tsonga

Federer's don't care about medals and playing for your country attitude and this wimby win will not put 100% into it

Lady Gold -- Sharapova will be back after this fluke loss to Lisicky

What is interesting is now Nadal will be seeded 3 and will have to face Djokovic in the semis before facing Fed. I believe that the Olympics makes sure that 1 plays 4 and 2 plays 3.

and what is wrong with that ? Roger is probably playing the best on grass at the moment. but look for roger to lose early on this one. Power hitters like Berdych, Tsonga, Novak and Roddick will be hungry for Gold for their nations.

Guess this means that there is a potential Novak-Andy SF, which is nice b/c they have never played on grass before. Hopefully Andy won't be too gutted by his Wimbledon loss and make it that far

The Olympics starts in 3 weeks, not 3 days. Everyone will be fine.

The form goes competely off in 5 days of not hitting, injuries take even longer to heal.

Federer and Murray will probably take a week off, then start to practice. It is a major reset. Do not expect them to peak for the Wimbledon final and stay in that peak form for weeks. Djokovic is not much better off, however.

Nadal has a huge advantage - he will be totally rested, hungry to prove that Rosol was just a fluke, and he values Olympics (and playing for Spain in general) a lot.

Federer has not achieved an Olympic gold in singles. He will definitely be motivated to win here and the conditions suit him perfectly.

And what makes you think Federer won't be either?

I don't see Murray medaling. He usually takes his slam final losses pretty hard and doesn't perform well for a bit after that. I would not be surprised if he loses early at the Olympics and at least one of the hardcourt Masters. Then again, Lendl seems to be doing a lot for his belief and mental strength, so maybe he'll break the pattern and perform well after a tough loss at a slam.
