I totally disregarded the AO from the hard court equation. It's become a joke.
Same here. I'd rather watch highlights from 2005 of Fed losing to Safin than watch footage of Fed beating Simon, who more recently was able to drag Fed into a five set quagmire of pushing and counter-punching mainly because of the surface--that green surface back in the day played faster than this blue stuff.

AO is just a wee bit faster than RG. AO also bounces as high as any rough clay court. USO has slowed down too in last 2 years too. Why? Already too much baseline play in ATP. Half the guys don't even know how to volley. ATP, please speed up the courts.

Yeah yeah, Federer is invincible on a "fast court" (except Paris and Dubai). You do realize the US Open played slower last year due to the hurricane that preceded the tournament. There was little to no play before the USO as a result, and the surface could not be scuffed up and dried out from all the rain. Yes, those things do affect hard courts as well.

Either Murray or Djokovic playing decently would have defeated Federer today (so long as the roof remained open) due to their return games which greatly exceed Del Potro's. The only things working for Federer were the serve and the slice.

Not that I completely disagree with what you say but Fed would also have had more chances to break them since Delpo was serving damn well on the big points today. There were really only 2 or 3 BP where Fed screwed up really badly, otherwise it was a lot to do with Delpo's play on those points.

True, Federer would have broken Murray or Djokovic more often, but he likely would have been broken more himself, meaning the outcome would have been decided on baseline play and quality of return. Federer was surprisingly poor from the baseline today, probably due to the wind. I'm not going to fault his return game too much since Del Potro did serve quite well.

Fed said in a Post-match-interview that this match would be about 50:50 but if he had to pick a winner he would have to say Murray.

Honestly I think Fed's a pretty good wind player, he was just too nervous for his own good. Started crying after he won. This is only the semi-final for crying out loud (oh god, what a bad pun, sorry....)! It's crazy but it seems to me that he cares more about winning this than he did Wimbledon!

I think djoke has more patriotism than Murray has (at least for team GB)and this will play a factor.

Federer doesn't want to admit it but he loves winning everything, records and trophies :)

Our tv station just switched to the Djokovic-Murray match. Djokovic was bouncing the ball when the presenter started her introduction, he was still bouncing when she was finished :D

good start from murray.
crowd seems to be very gentlemanly and sort of wimbledonny.
let's see as the match goes.

i think murray will have to dig deep this time. the brits can't be forgiving forever

Don't know who to root for, but I think Fed and Nole would be more enjoyable, esp with the number 1 ranking:)

I think a Fed - Murray repeat would be really unique for men's tennis.

Seeing Murray devastated during the W speech, you wished he would win something big soon. But I feel Fed and Nole would be more dramatic, with the top ranking.

Meanwhile, this is great hitting from both right now. Will watch and enjoy this now then the better man will come through.

I guess it's redundant to say that with Federer through, the final will be epic no matter who wins this match. If it's Djokovic, the final will be between #1 and #2 in the world, with the #1 ranking on the line. If it's Murray, the final will be a repeat from just several weeks ago, with Murray trying to avenge his loss in front of his home country crowd.
