This is really crazy story!
It was 27th of july 2012, London. Me with colleagues from Sports department of Russian National TV and Radio Company (VGTRK) were looking forward to watch and feel Opening Ceremony of Olympic Games. For guys from sports media it's a dream. Olympic Games is the most involving and touching event in the world. Not only in sports. All the planet follows Olympics. And here we are. At Olympic Stadium in London, and only few hours away from the start of the Opening Ceremony. It was not my first Olympics, but first time I was at the stadium for Opening Ceremony. On my accreditation card you can see a special sticker that allowed me to enter Opening Ceremony.
We are huge media holding so we had our own commentators position at the stands.
But still we had some time before the start of Opening Ceremony. So with my colleague and friend we decided to go inside the stadium to see how actors and staff were preparing for the upcoming show. Inside the arena we met president of Russian Olympic Commitee Alexander Zhukov. He was glad to see his countrymen in such unexpected place. He asked us a lot - how did we like London, where we live, what we expect from our athletes. But he was in a hurry, so the conversation was on the run. We didn’t even notice how we found ourselves in the elevator, and when we got out, Zhukov hugged us, said goodbye and ran off.
At first we didn’t understand where we were and tried to find an exit from arena, but there was only one and it led to a street that was cordoned off and closed on both sides.
And it was filled with delegations from countries that were preparing to take part in the opening ceremony. Just athletes! Just those people who enter the stadium during Olympic Games Opening Ceremony translation. All countries, all athletes were here. Countries from A to Z stretched out along the street and it was the most star-filled street in the world at that monent. We realized - it was our chance to make few unique photos. That's how my friend now has a photo with Kobe Bryant. And I made it with Novak Djokovic.
I don't think anyone on the Earth have a photo with Djoker in such Olympic parade, except his fellow Serbian teammates.
Djokovic was the flag bearer of Team Serbia. He noticed the abbreviation of Russia on our clothes, was very happy and greeted us in Russian. On my photo with Nole you can see him putting on the red jumper in which he appeared at the Stadium about half an hour later.
Well, and what about us? We were wearing red Russian TV-Radio jackets and we decided to join the Tunisian team (team in red). First we had an idea to go all the way into the Stadium, but at the last moment decided not to risk that much.
The next day we found out that were not the only ones who wanted to get into the stadium as part of a delegation from one of the countries. But! We did not want to be in this column, but ended up there by accidentally meeting with mister Zhukov.
But Madhura Nagendra was really looking for seconds of glory, and got them, when all the world saw a girl in strange ted and blue clothes as part of Team India delegation.
During those Olympic Games i worked at tennis event for sure, that was held at Wimbledon. Every day you are catching a subway train to Wimbledon. Watching great matches. Enjoying great atmosphere of legendary Club. Yes, that was a dream job.
I have many photos with players from London Olympics, and will make another thread for them.
Thanks for reading this thread!
