OMG Dunlop balls SUCK!!!!

As I posted before, I think that dunlop makes the best ball.

However, I opened a can this weekend and they were flat! This is first time that this has happened! This is one can out of a case I bought from Big 5. I plan on taking back the can, and I hope the rest are ok!

I agree that Dunlops feel more 'heavy' in play. I've never found the same 'pop' on my serve when using them. However the ability to adapt to different balls is just another part of the game. ;) BHBH

I held serve once playing with the Dunlops vs my brother. Next time we used Wilson and I held serve 4 times. He keeps raving about the Dunlops but now I keep buying Wilsons LMAO.

Why do they keep advertising Penn as the only ball still made in the US then? I agree how they're absoluty horrible. Good for maybe a set, then they loose all voice and become so squishy it's not even funny.

Funny thing is that last time I checked Pann ATP are made in china.

I have to mention that when you start noticing differences between the playability of balls you KNOW you are a tennis NUT!!!!!!!!:)
 When fresh, I can hardly tell the difference between good balls. However, after a few games, that's when you really can tell. The good ones are still playing like new, the cheaper mid range balls don't.

LOL. Not really to me it's pretty easy to tell.

The nuts are the people around here who weigh their frames on gram scales and claim they cannot buy a stock frame because one was .004 grams lighter than the other.

Well maybe its just the high altitude, but pretty much everyone around here thinks dunlop are the worst, the dont last more than 1hr/set.

even I hate dunlop balls because they are heavy & slightly bigger compare to wilson us open and penn balls. I mean that is one of the reason they last little longer compare to other brands.

New can of ball shouldn't last long unless you hit them like amateur. I was hitting with my partner other day & hitting as hard as we can. After 90 min one dunlop ball had tiny hole and about to fall apart.

It weight of the ball which gives me shoulder pain which I realize after selling yonex rds & babolat roddick plus racquet. I hate them so much and like to finish my last can...my shoulder pain reside after playing with other brand of balls but I bought so cans sometime back and no choice but finish it.

wilson or penn all the way...

btw: Now using Dunlop AG100 that means everything is not crap from dunlop but balls should be same weight as other brands.

With all due respect nn, I highly doubt the ball you're using, especially since it's one of the best selling and most widely used balls, is what is causing you to become injured.

If you aren't a pro you'r amateur. Yes even you. You hit nowhere one near as hard a Fernando Gonzales.

That's wrong. Even Chris Evert has talked about using uniform balls on the tours to prevent injury.

see if you are at least 4.5 and played for 10-12 year for 1-3 per week you can easily tell difference between wilson, penn or dunlop balls. Even my partner who is fit feels weight of dunlop and our league player's as well. But injury because of ball weight was not the sole point of selling or buying new stick or parameter to judge.

one thing is for sure they are heavy & when you serve with heavy balls it put more pressure or load on shoulder for sure. I can serve faster with penn or wilson usopen or other wilson balls.

I didn't say that. I said that hitting with dunlop balls in particular is likely not the cause of injury. Obviously hitting many different kinds of balls is going to have an effect on your body, but there are more serious causes of injury than uniform balls. That's all.

Note that I didn't say that you were making anything up. It is incredibly easy for me to tell the difference between different balls. I learned tennis on grand prixs and they're the only ones I buy now along with the slazenger wimbledons. During league play and playing around with others, Wilsons tend to be the dominant choice. The change in ball from what I'm used to is usually the smallest factor determining how I'm playing that day, but again, everyone is different. I look at it as a smaller version of having to adapt to the wind that day. All I am saying is that if you're getting shoulder injuries, I would not be looking at the ball as the first culprit. That's all. :)

man I said something like heavy balls make your shoulder work more when you play 3 hours per day.

I mean same racquet and string works perfectly fine with wilson or penn balls but gives you sore shoulder about 3 hours of play says something.

When I said shoulder injury means just those niggles or little pain which isn't same as Rotator cuff injury..just to make it more clear..

I think it's just probably the USPTA ProPenn that's made in Arizona.

Man, by the sounds of some of the kids in this thread...how the heck is Dunlop still in business?

Kidding. I haven't really tallied up the comments, but.....pretty obvious fail here. Happy Dunlop's making balls.

Please alert me if you guys put Dunlop out of business. I'll have to drive down to SC and load up a moving van with their remaining inventory.

They make a good ball I just wouldn't go out of my way to buy them is all.

I see where you're going now. :)

I only commented because I have destroyed my right shoulder from learning improper service technique while I was younger, and know better than anyone else I know that improper technique is far more likely and often to cause injury than equipment.

I just figured it all out. I just now GOT IT.

The OP used the expression, "OMG". This is something young women and gay guys use to feign/express surprise, shock or horror in a very effeminate and dramatic way.

Ergo: teen girls and effeminate guys dislike a hearty/manly ball.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Thank you very much. I'll be here all night. Be sure to tip your waiters and waitresses!

Glad to see the love for Dunlop balls. They are absolutely my #1 choice over the years. They feel heavy and solid to me. Fantastic. I think they are the best for power hitters.

 What are you talking about, I never thought you did! I was just trying to help you find out what could really be causing your injury :)

Dunlop FTW. I grew up in the UK playing with Slazenger balls (SW19 ones) which I hear are made by Dunlop. These days, whether I'm in the States, Asia or UK I dig around for Dunlop Grand Prix when I can afford it or Fort when I'm a little strapped for cash.

Very occasionally I get a friend to stop by Costco and get a case of Penn for me. But let's face it, Penn sucks. Even more than it did before they started being ;made in China.'

I agree with Datacipher 100% For me they have better controll and don't fly on you like some of the lighter balls do...IMO

Penn balls from Costco played flat out right but one from walmart played well. Wilson USOPEN (black color can) plays well. But no more dunlop for me in future.

I got some penn balls from costco. They feel inflated when you push on them, but the way they bounce... there's no comparison. Dunlop Grand Prix about a week old (used for maybe 4 sets or more) bounce better and the Penn balls from costco. The penn balls bounce as if you're hitting with slice... it's really pathetic.

I just played three days in a row with Dunlop Grand Prix balls (two cans at a time....one can Saturday was a Wilson US Open). Awesome, except the Wilsons felt soft to me. Then played this morning with a can of Dunlop Abzorbers and a can of USPTA Pro Penns. I could tell the difference. The Abzorbers felt softer and easier to control than the GP....very similar to the USPTA ProPenn. The difference was the fact that the Abzorbers had much better felt (typically dense like Dunlop GP HC balls). The Dunlop felt lasted longer and responds better to heavy spins.

I think the GP is best overall, though. Nice and hard. Great with spin. Happy I get them by the case.

EDIT:
If I were to rank the balls on my little unscientific 4 day experiment, they'd go like this:
1. Dunlop GP
2. Dunlop Abzorber
3. Pro Penn
4. Wilson US Open

Dunlop balls are awful. Never buy em.
BEST TENNIS BALLS.
OFFICIAL US OPEN BALLS WITh the Black Flame.. not the crappy retail once.

i used dunlop balls for a while they sucked they lose pressure pretty fast and have many flaws try slazenger they are the best

I dig the Dunlops, especially the Grand Prix. Usually play with Championship, easier to find and cheaper. Not a big fan of Wilson, but the Penn ATP balls are pretty good.

There...my 2 cents! :)

Me and my buddy were playing with his Dunlop balls. I complained how suck those balls were and changed to my Wilson US open.

After the game, he went to Costco and bought a pack of US Open.

I don't know what kind of Dunlops they were.
