On a scale of 1-10 how does Med's performance in the USO 23 F rate?

He was simply outgunned by a superior player with superior tactics.

Djokovic has everything Med has from the back of the court plus a much better net game.

He beat a declined player 9 years his senior in straight sets in 2021, then lost to that more-declined player 9 years his senior in straight sets in 2023.

That rates the lowest of the low.

If the Alcaraz SF was a 9.5/10 then this was probably a 6.

Set 2, he played quite well (8/10) but Set 1 and Set 3 were relatively poor.

What would you give Djokovic?

About a 6. Many UEs and he couldn't get first-serves in. But it hardly mattered because Medvedev was so awful on both the serve and the return. The match was one of never-ending rallies, and Nole's predictable serve-and-volley when he got behind on his serve. But he knew this method would work against his opponent, so props for that.

Djokovic is pretty tough. It’s common when players have a very highly charged win in the semis, it’s tough to win the next match. Happened almost every time someone beat Nadal or Djokovic and still had to play another match. (Except for Nalbandian).

You really need to rate his performance against Alcaraz, where he okayed out of his mind.

I couldnt see the whole match because you know, europe and work... But the first 1.5 set he was spraying UEs like the Fed is printing money.

I find it funny how people are giving mugdevev a pass. Can he take a set at least? This was another predictable boring final. Now 1-4 in finals.

Novak owns the field pretty much. I can really see 3 to 4 more slams barring injury. The fact that alcaraz is the only hope speaks volumes about the rest of these guys lol.

I like some of the guys on here like daggerman 'liking' posts from a decade ago to throw shade.:-D
The fact that someone has the time to go and dig up material from 2013 is laughable in itself to try to make a point.:p

Lmao players from 20 years ago wouldn't stand a chance.

Go back and watch.
Not everyone agrees. Maybe we should just stick to relative era or in era comparisons more if the player is not a ATG or "GOAT candidate.

A solid 5 and that's mainly because of the second set...Says something when Tsitsipas played Djokovic closer at the AO final lol. But a point to be noted right from the start of the match was Medvedev BH and serve looking visibly below par

This was also confirmed with the medical time out he took before the third getting some massage on his left shoulder

Take nothing away from Djokovic for a brilliant gameplan and execution but had Medvedev maintained his form from the semi final(a solid 9-10) , I see the match going 5

This Holyfield would have beat Lewis.
I 100% agree with this. In the early 90's Evander was fighting well established fighters, while Lennox was fighting guys like Gary Mason. Lennox's maturation wasn't until the late 90's and early 2000's

Gary Mason has entered the discussion. Would win the Lonsdale belt today, but even the ol tinted glasses, I wouldn't think he could be world champion. Frank Bruno vs Deontay Wilder is now the match I want to see. Funny how a mention of Gary Mason made me think of this fight randomly. Good times.

Much respect if you know who Gary Mason is. Without looking, I believe he was the British Commonwealth champion and a decent fighter, but nothing that would have indicated he was world champion caliber. I referenced Mason because he was like the last guy Lennox fought before he started picking up his competition level. Respect

Yeah, I remember him. 1990-1991 would probably be where I can remember things from. The British heavyweights were on TV all the time when I was growing up. Felt like every weekend there was a fight, even though there wasn't. Mind playing tricks just because there were so many.

These days it's on a few fights they show on normal TV if it's on channel 5 and those aren't too often.
