ON (The Roger) tennis shoes

They are a bit like a formula 1 car. Very comfy for the relatively low amount of cushioning it has. Great grip/slide balance. Light. Amazing court feel...

All at the cost of price and durability.

Are referring to the "Roger Pro"? Their "competition" level tennis shoe? Exactly what I'm looking for: roomy forefoot, not too much cushioning, great court feel, lightweight.

Should be coming out on March 19th or 21st!

They also have the Roger Pro Advantage coming out which is a level below the clubhouse pro I believe. They’re not that different from the original models. Feel nice to play in them.
Nothing yet. My information is May. What was your source?

Finally got my backordered pairs of the new clay colorway...kind of an interesting shoe.
They are stout but feel light, as I said, it's interesting.
More ad-hoc observations:
-The little shoe lace holder snap thing, a little unnecessary.
-The tongue is short, I guess Fed never used the big oversize tongue like Nadal.
-It is amazing, you do really feel everything with your forefoot. (Swear I could feel the grain in my wood floors)
-I mostly play on clay, but I could see how this characteristic would be unforgiving and uncomfortable for hard courts.
-i don't think these are as crazy wide as people claim [either that or my forefoot is crazy wide]. I say that because the 10.5 I ordered fit well except it was a little cramped, meaning I need my normal 11.
The 11 is backordered from a different site (TW was not getting anymore) so I will return the 10.5 and see how the 11 fairs, if it ever arrives.

My current clay shoe is the Le Coq Sportif LCS T01, I took a flyer on this and it paid off huge. Feel and fit is exactly like my beloved Vapor X, but with a lighter upper. The RPro reminded me of my LCS's and is also reminiscent of the Vapor X/9.5. I think the LCS have the RPro beat though (1 million percent price-wise) but because you sit down in the shoe more. There's just a suggestion of not sitting down in the RPro with how the heel is designed.

Full disclosure: only wore them around the house, I probably could've made the 10.5 work but my toes were a little cramped.

I started with my normal 11 for the roger pros and ultimately couldn't stand them as my forefoot was slipping around (i've got slightly wide feet as is) and couldn't get any lockdown there. I ordered a pair in 10.5 and though there was minimal to room at the front they were a much better performance fit and i never had any issues with toe jam. They're an interesting shoe to say the least--I really wanted to like my pair but they had so little cushion and give and weren't anything like Nike Vapors so I couldn't stand them. Maybe I'll try again but they were ultimately disappointing for me YMMV.

Good insight, the cushioning I am less worried about since I am buying them for clay court use and the shock is, theoretically, less than hard court.

That to me is a selling point; I find too many tennis shoes are far too "cushioned" - for me that destroys ground feel. Thanks for the write up!

Hey guys. Considering buying a pair since they're in stock.

I've worn size 8.5 in asics gel speed ff
Nike 8.5 in rf vapor tours (this was 08-2016 models)
And Adidas barricades in 9

Also for running shoes I wear a 9 in Brooks Adrenalines and 9 for merril hiking boots.

Should I stick with the 8.5 since that's usually my size? Never bought anything from ON before.

The size is true. The shoe is not super wide.
However, it is overpriced, poor performance, the sole is terrible durability, and if your pinky toe sits on that plastic collar, you are screwed. I suggest to look at another shoe, soooo many better options at much better prices

Agree with this. Also that there are equal or better shoes at much better prices.

@MasturB I too was enticed and ordered the clay version as it is mostly what I play on in FL.
Ordered a 10.5 and 11 (sitll waiting on the 11 from another retailer, TW wasn't getting anymore)
10.5 was too short and the shoes really didn't feel overly wide, fit my foot well.
But they do have a very rigid and noticeable plastic support on the lateral side near the toebox.
Hoping the 11 will be right, but also may never actually get them as the date keeps getting pushed back.
Hope that helps

Size was true for me. Fit slightly roomier than Vapors. I really like the ON shoes and rotate them with my Vapor 9.5s.
These are the Roger Pros?

Are they low to the ground with good ground feel? Not too cushioned?

What about this plastic piece that people keep talking about that jams one of your toes?

Durability so farr?

Yes, I have the Pros. They are low to the ground and there isn’t much cushioning which is something I actually like. I haven’t had any issues with the plastic piece.

Durability is decent, but I never really wear through shoes quickly. I play all doubles and have good movement but don’t drag my toe. The soles don’t have much tread so it may wear fast if you do drag your feet. When the Pros start to age, I use them on the clay.

Very good ground feel, especially the forefoot. I could feel the wood grain of my floor while wearing them.

The plastic piece is on the lateral flange side, basically right where the toebox starts to flare out. Honestly, I don't think it is visible on the outside of the shoe, I think it must be a structural piece on the inside that doesn't have any fabric or padding.
It didn't jam my toes, you could just feel it on the lateral forefoot just at or below where your pinkie toe starts.
It's probably not unbearable, just noticeable. I also wear thin socks.

Finally got my size 11's...I think I might keep them.

These definitely run true to size and again, really aren't wide like people claim.
I think they just have a specific shape and if your foot isn't that shape, then they don't feel right.

Also didn't notice the plastic support as much, so maybe if you have the wrong size or shape foot it stands out more.

Even being the clay version, it's a tough pill to swallow, even finding a 15% off coupon, still tough.
For now I'll try them on some more before I decide, although I am tempted to use them in my match tomorrow

Well, I done did it.

Wore them on court, so I'm stuck with at least one of the pairs I ordered.

These are pretty great though. Fit me well, feel light on your feet (Size 11 weighed in at 420g) well balanced. Never really was conscious of them while playing and to me that is the ultimate test. If I'm not thinking about them or noticing them, they're just right.
Traction was good even on the slightly dry clay courts. Feel like they dig in well despite the semi shallow herringbone.

My normal shoe is the Le Coq Sportif LCS T01, which I deem a hybrid of the Vapor 9.5 and X, and these are fairly similar. These have a little more lockdown and you notice the pronounced lateral flange but similarly light, fast, and low to the ground.

These are not as exotic or unusual as they get potrayed....they're just shoes.
Yes, they have a very pronounced lateral flange and, I probably wouldn't like them on hard court, but otherwise just shoes.
My feet are pretty medium, maybe my forefoot is a litter wider, but they fit me well.
The clay outsole is good, very sure-footed, seems like the herringbone is a little more spaced out which seems to help it release the clay and maintain grip.
Feel like some reviews say you "need good footwork" whatever but they're just shoes.
They're sort of minimalist in the cushioning but the uppers provide alot of lockdown and support, very sturdy. Good arch support too.

A little contrast to the SFX EVO that I am playtesting. Those have a fabric upper that is not overly stiff/supportive, quite a bit more minimalist, light, and forgiving in that it flexes/stretches. Great for larger, not just length, footed individuals. Of which it says they were designed.

Overall, if you can stomach the price, enjoyed Vapor 9.5/X -type shoes, give them a shot. Length is true for me, I wear 11 and these are 11, my feet measure medium but do taper out toward my forefoot, but not extreme like Fed's. I think more people could wear these than what you'd believe from reading reviews.

Any info on when the Roger pro 2/ the Iga, Ben, and Joao shoe will be released? They look awesome and seem to be a hit with Iga

I agree it is not a pair of bad tennis shoes in any sense, especially if you like Vapor9.5/X that type of shoes. But at this price point, there are definitely a lot of choices with better durability. The outsole is a joke on the hard court model as well in terms of how vulnerable and shallow it is.

@TW Staff Is there any word on when the update to these/the Iga and Ben shoe might release? I've seen them in marketing photos from On and had heard they'd be out "soon" since at least Indian Wells.

The Roger Pro 2 & The Roger Pro 2 Clay are loaded up on the official On site. Cannot add to cart. Showing as “Notify Me.”

White | Flame - Women

The Roger Pro 2 Clay

Looking at the pictures of the Indigo (supposedly hard court) and the Pink (supposedly clay court), the outsole looks exactly the same?

EDIT:
Nevermind… Disregard. I was looking at the Flame color of the women’s. The hard court version has a new herringbone outsole, but it’s slightly different than the clay court version.

Hopefully will be up soon. They look gorgeus

Did the Pro 2s worn by Shelton have regular herringbone (non-clay) outsole? I have already seen Swiatek's hard court soles and they do indeed come with HC/AV herringbone but I have not seen Shelton's Pro 2s

I managed to get the sleeveless top just gonna layer it with a compression shirt for the Kyrgios 2022 look

It looks like Shelton had the Roger 1 outsole
To be totally honest I love how the Roger 1 outsole feels. You can slide comfortably and still maintain traction, it helps with front to back movement traction while allowing some mobility and slickness side to side which is ideal.
