One Handed BH v. Two Handed BH

Federer, Sampras, Lendl and McEnroe had one handed back hands and did quite well. Today, very fine but lessor players such as Roberdo and Almagro use it but in today’s power game it is understandable that the one handed back hand is over shadowed by the two hander. The two hander is a big powerful forehand- like ground stroke but offers fewer options than the one hander. The one hander is the most graceful and beautiful shot in tennis and provides greater variety with the type of shot hit than the two hander. For example haven’t we all seen more one handed backhand drop shots than from the two hander? And didn’t Andre Agassi, known for a great two handed back hand, also use the one hander when it suited the situation? Yes he did. Frankly I think the two hander (a power shot) is easier for a younger player to learn to hit well than the one hander (a deft shot allowing for superior court coverage and options for the type of shot used). If I point to the women’s game I will be called a sexist but for now the men’s game is borrowing from the women’s game for quick and (relatively) easy power. Currently, tennis is a power game and in time players will learn to counter power by developing versatility, anchored in part by the one handed backhand.
