One of the most explosive climaxes in the history of professional sports this weekend

Either the undisputed world heavyweight champion ascends to uncharted levels, or one of the youngers players will be winning their first slam and/or be known as the one who ended the historic run of an icon. History beckons this weekend and one way or another history will be made.

An explosive ending to the 2021 slam season awaits...there has never been so much on the line at this point ever....the CYGS, the slam record....the chance for a young player to have a truly milestone moment in their careers....something has to give.

Next time on Dragon Ball Z!!

2 Formidable hunters stand in Novak's way.

Sadly these hunters are yet to have the belief that they can win, however they have the game to beat him.

There will be no excuses for any of the four this weekend. Whoever wins will deserve it.

Lets see what happens, in Tennis having the mindset of a champion is important to be a champion, if in our mind we are inferior we will be inferior on court too, even people like Hewitt despite not having the greatest of weapons in their arsenal had the mindset of a champion, thats why he dominated transition era, even Andy had mindset of a champion, thats why he could become 1 in 2016 in that sorta transitional phase.

Zverev/Meddy will have to show that mindset, without that they cannot beat Novak.

That is exactly the point, all of them have quite the mental challenge ahead of them, no one is winning this without the mindset of a champion...too much on the line.

Why are so many of you thinking of the men only? Yes, there's a lot of history to be seen in the finals where Novak, Meddy, Sasha or Felix can make their mark; however, there's as much or even more on the table in the female group where the two lovely teens Emma and Leylah can knock the socks off all the tennis followers worldwide.

Sometimes we can say from the face of some guys that they are useless.
Whenever I see Berretini/Tsitsipas I feel that is the case, they might never win slams.
Zverev is also a choker but he has hope, Meddy looks the meanest of these lot, he dislikes the big 3 dominating and wants to kick them all out, but for some reasons he hasn't been able to.

More on the table?

Absolutely not. There is nothing that can compare to BOTH the all time slam record, a storyline that has dominated the game for the better part of two decades AND the ultimate holy grail of tennis The CYGS. There is just too much history on the line here. We will never see such a perfect storm of CYGS and slam record on the line again at the same time.

While I myself want Emma and Leylah to play that final, lets not kid ourseleves on where that stands compared to what awaits the conclusion of the mens side. Either Novak takes it all, or one man will forever be known as the guy who stopped him.

As for the girls, I hope they have great careers. I like them both.

This is why whoever wins will deserve it. It's a gut check for the players left, as they all have to deal with the pressure that is unique to them.

You would think Djokovic was going through players of the quality of Lendl, Chang and Sampras. Or Muster, Kafelnikov and Bruguera. This is about as climatic and explosive as a rerun of Miss Marple on a wet Sunday afternoon.

Explosive? More like a whimper. This has been the most boring slam in recent decades. Not a single competitor worthy of challenging a player good enough that all he needs is above mediocre play to skirt right on to the trophy. The quality of play in this tournament by his competitors has been utter garbage. Just hand the trophy to Novak so this joke of a tournament can be over.

It's very telling that the majority of posters on here don't appear to have watched tennis in the 2000s, 90s, 80s and beyond. Then again, if you are entertained by children's cartoons, is clear you haven't seen tennis prior to the last decade.

Zverev and Medevedev are the two inform players right now and at moment much more dangerous to Novak on a hardcourt than old man Roger or ailing Rafa.

They should be fresher and fitter and they both have a great game for this surface especially as it is playing faster this year.

Also as Hitman states there has never been so much on the line for over half a century in the men's game. In fact with the modern coverage and different surfaces the GS's have compared to Laver's time, Novak is under way much more pressure than Rod was back in 1969. With so much on the line this is epic and Hitman is right that in years to come what happens this weekend will be talked about one way or another

I only started watching from 2011. Thought that is very obvious from how I post here.

But I guess as a Fed fan you are far more knowledgeable about the game.

The sheer jealousy and desperation from Novak haters really is reaching new heights.

I can totally understand why Rafa and Roger fans don't want Novak to achieve something their man was never able to do, but let's not start trying to downplay what would be an unbelievable achievement.

Exactly. It will be a moment in sporting history that will always be remembered, whether Novak wins or Zed/Med/FAA win.

Indeed they are much more dangerous than Federer whose last set played was a losing bagel at his pet slam and Nadal who is absent with 'injury'.
I am not holding the competition against Djokovic as such, and I agree with you. However, still, this field may be the best but sometimes you go to the shops anticipating a deluxe blt and all that awaits you is a day old Prawn cocktail.
Indeed there is so much on the line and it will be talked about. None the less, the storyline itself is neither interesting or dramatic, for me.
But in essence, I agree with what is said. But not in quite as enthusiastic a way.

Yes, because Federer played in the 80s, didn't he?

No. Because by default if you are a Federer fan here, then you are knowledgable, know about the history of the game, and if you are a Djokovic fan then quite honestly you haven't a clue about tennis before 2011 because you were only five. That is how assumptions work on TTW, as you clearly showed me with your first post in this thread.

I've said nothing negative about Novak. It's your utter worship of him, that doesn't want to admit this era of tennis is garbage.

The sheer worship of one man, more like, is what blinds you to the fact this era of tennis is one of the weakest. No one is contesting Novak's ability to win. The fact you see it as hate against him is what's pathetic. Let's not pretend this tournament will be anything other than a steam roll.

I wish it was peak Thiem instead of Felix. Don't get me wrong cause I like him but the trio of peak Thiem, Daniil and Sasha + Novak could have potentially produced the best USO matches of recent years. Still I would prefer 2011 SF Line-up though:)

We must be watching a different tournament. In the one I’m watching, Medvedev and Zverev are playing at a high level of tennis (as is FAA) which should make this weekend must watch if you are a tennis fan. This USO (2021) has been one of the best I’ve ever seen (and I’ve been watching since the late 70s).

I never said I was a Novak fan. Nor did I say I was only a Federer fan. Seeing as you live in absolutes, that's to be expected. I was born in the early 80s and have been watching live tennis and playing it, since the late 80s, not to mention highlights of the greats before. I know it's hard to imagine a poster on here that has seen real tennis for decades and doesn't watch men in tights pretending to injure themselves while reciting used lines from a soap opera, but we do exist.

That is you making incorrect conclusions from what I said, so let me correct you on that. Speaking of absolutes, your shallow observation that a Novak fan who posts gifs never watched or has no understanding of the game before this previous decade is your short sightedness.

I think people here who actually have seen the history of my posts, and have engaged with me indepth over the years on a variety of subjects around tennis, including its history, know just how much I know about the game, and here's a little hint my esteemed Federer friend, up there on your pedestal, I've actually been a member of this site since before 2011...but lets go with your assumptions of what a typical Novak fan is here.

And using wrestling as your means to cover up your annoyance over what could happen this weekend says more about you, than it does me.

Calling me a "Federer Friend?" You think I care about a man who threw away an entire decade to secure his lead in the pantheon of greatness? I'm not annoyed with Novak winning. A blind man can see he's earned it. I'm annoyed with the state of tennis and the posters/posers on here claiming it's great when there are no challengers for one individual who doesn't even need to play a high caliber to win. Give me a gutsy, aggressive young Novak, give me an Agassi who lost his will to play, then rejoined the tour from the ground up, fielding his own balls and working his way all the way back to win grand slams. Give me an angry Marat Safin with a backhand the fire of a thousand suns, give me a stoic Sampras and his Jordan dunking overheads. Anyone with any level of creativity, any level of passion, that is good tennis. Yes, you can only play who is in front of you, but let's not pretend these amateurs deserve to face an ATG like Novak for a shot at the title.

I'm certainly enjoying the tournament. Not so much the hyperbole around the CYGS. Now, if Djokovic had done this in 2011 beating Nadal in the USO final- which would also have meant he beat Federer and Nadal back to back in the RG event- I would say the thread headline was spot on.
