After the loss of Cilic, the USO draw is free of any former slam champions, so one of these guys will take the crown.

  • Nick Kyrgios (27)
    • The oldest player left, a former teen prodigy that severely underperformed until his recent Wimbledon final.
    • Playing style: probably the best serve on tour, flat forehand, all court play.
    • Weak points: defense, consistency, and an almost pathologically mercurial mentality.
  • Karen Khachanov (26),
    • Rublev's training buddy, who's been kind of an also-ran with some good runs sprinkled in.
    • Playing style: spinny Western forehand ball bashing.
    • Weak points: return of serve, lack of variety, consistency.
  • Matteo Berrettini (26)
    • A best-of-five overperformer who has only lost to Djokodal in slams since AO '21.
    • Playing style: big man tennis, serve and forehand, rinse and repeat.
    • Weak points: defense and backhand.
  • Casper Ruud (23)
    • The RG finalist who's never won anything above a 250, yet keeps making deep runs and is somehow in the running for #1.
    • Playing style: serve and forehand, more about consistency and forcing errors than all-out aggression.
    • Weak points: backhand, low peak level.
  • Carlos Alcaraz (19)
    • The best teenager since Nadal, who has visibly lost steam after his spring run but is still a betting favorite who also can take #1.
    • Playing style: aggressive zoning baseliner with all-court tendencies.
    • Weak points: serve-return complex, consistency, exploitable court positioning.
  • Jannik Sinner (21)
    • The next big thing until Alcaraz burst onto the scene, he's been taking revenge by beating him multiple times in recent months.
    • Playing style: aggressive, balanced metronomic baseliner, good returner.
    • Weak point: lack of variety.
  • Andrey Rublev (24)
    • The King of 500s, who seems to struggle to conquer the QF stage at Slams.
    • Playing style: aggressive baseliner, huge forehand and big first serve.
    • Weak points: second serve, consistency, mentality.
  • Frances Tiafoe (24)
    • The local hope who was the first to beat Nadal in a slam in 2022.
    • Playing style: American-style serve and forehand, good returner.
    • Weak points: defense, consistency.

This is one fun collection of flawed but interesting players. Honestly, I could see anyone winning the whole thing (except for Karen, sorry Karen)

Who do you think wins?

I just hope Kyrgios doesn't win. He's an awful person and example for the sport.

If Alcaraz needed 5 for Cilic and Sinner 5 for Ivashka, I do feel Nick is the favorite. But Berrettini will be a big ask for Nick with his awful forehand return and Berrettini's cannon.

It really is pretty wide open.
Great to see.

I'm catching up on Sinner v Ivashka match now.

Not seen the Alcaraz match yet..

During bedtime here.

With that in mind, I would quite like Sinner to win it.
I'll go with Alcaraz though.

Can you imagine a Berrettini - Sinner final? Madness! Forza!
There was already an Italian final in New York :sneaky:

Would love for Kyrgios to win :D
I have a soft spot for Nick, but IMO his head is already big enough as it is

Imagine the extreme showboating that would ensue if he won, ewww

I'm still Team Alcaraz, although I wouldn't mind it if Berrettini or Rublev were the ones to win.

I can't explain it but Nick's showboating doesn't bother me at all bc it's just mainly bc he likes to entertain, it doesn't come from a place that seems cocky. Give me a Kyrgios celebration over a Sinner fistpump or Alcaraz earcup anyday!

He does like to entertain but he's one mean cocky mofo, it's his out of court antics that bother me the most TBH

While Alcaraz is practically a footballer on the court, but he's an otherwise nice kid.

I want those two on the final for maximum entertainment value with the cat-and-mouse points.

Great breakdown

agree with everyone heavy favs are kyrgios, Berretini, alcaraz in some order. Khachanov with the lowest chances given who he is and his remaining draw.

That being said…the only guys left to win above a 500 event are Alcaraz…and Khachanov!

LOL how either of these guys will win a slam before Tsitsipas and Zverev

Tsitsipas was real bad this tournament, injury maybe?, and Zverev is he still recovering from injury? In previous slam final runs Zverev's form arguably would beat what's left in the draw. Arguably. Circumstances and circumstances have not panned out well for Zverev at all.

22 slams have been held since 2017, would have been 23 had Wimbledon not cancelled in 2020. 20 of the 22 slams held were won by one of the big 3.

Thiem-Zverev USO 2020 was the only slam final contested from the above which didn't feature a big 3 and it was from what I read a chokefest. Med beat Djokovic in the other slam not won by a big 3.

Lets hope Nick, Berrettini, Sinner and Alcaraz are able to play their best. Imagine Berrettini with a shockingly weak BH for a top 10 player winning the whole thing.

I agree with you on Zverev, but he lost his only slam final to Thiem in what was a very weak USO.
