Open Era Goat Rr Tourn. With A Twist

BTURNER

Legend
RR event on each half of the draw. Best of 3 sets through the final. Best of 5 set final

Upper half of the draw
Navratilova, King, Venus, Graf, Henin.

Lower half of the draw
Evert, Serena, Court, Seles, WILD CARD.

Here's the twist. You pick the Wild Card entry. She picks the surface. What will she pick? who reaches the final, and who wins that best of five?

Here's an example. Sanchez Vicaro for the wild card. She'd pick red clay.

The upper half is easy. Graf wins every rd w/ 4-5 points, with maybe one loss to Henin. Henin 3-4 if she gets lucky vs Graf and plays well vs Martina. Venus gets 2 beating martina and king, navratilova beats King and maybe Henin. BJK calls clay a boring surface, and goes home.

Lower half is hellish. Evert, Serena, Court, Seles, Sanchez. Evert wins 4-5 with Seles being the biggest problem. That could go either way Oddly, if Serena plays her best, she could overpower Chris ( or almost anyone) w/ her serve and groundies but not likely. Seles wins 4-5 with Evert being her biggest challenge. Court looses to Evert, Seles and Serena but beats Sanchez.

Evert vs Graf basically a toss-up but I'll pick Evert in 5 sets.

Alright, I'll play:

Upper half of the draw:
Navratilova, King, Venus, Graf, Henin

Lower half of the draw
Evert, Serena, Court, Seles, WILD CARD=Jennifer Capriati

Capriati picks fast (old US Open type) hard courts.

Graf beats all but Navratilova who narrowly escapes defeat in 3 tight sets, Venus beats Henin and King but loses to Navratilova and Graf.
King beats Henin and gives Navratilova a run for her money but gets overpowered by everyone else.
Navratilova beats everyone - tough 3 setters against Graf and King though.

Evert beats everyone but goes 3 sets against all - comes from behind to beat Court and Seles.
Court beats Capriati and Serena but loses to Seles and Evert.
Serena beats Seles but loses to everyone else.
Capriati loses to everyone and is then promptly arrested for shoplifting - again.

Semis

Evert d. Graf - saves 2 match points
Navratilova d. Court

Final
Navratilova d. Evert - Comes from behind to win in 4 after losing the 1st set.

3-6, 7-5, 6-4, 6-2

This sounds pretty cool, I'll give it a go. I will say though that based on current parameters...the upper half seems a lot worse then the lower half with both Nav and Graf up there...but switch one and it probably gets worse...I'd probably switch Evert and Nav to maybe balance it out..but I'll go as is.

Upper half of the draw:
Navratilova, King, Venus, Graf, Henin

Lower half of the draw
Evert, Serena, Court, Seles, WILD CARD=Hana Mandlikova

Mandlikova chooses hardcourts

Upper Half:

Navratilova beats King and Venus(mainly because Venus playing her usual high end UE game helps Martina) and Henin. Loses an insanely tight 3 setter to Graf. King loses to Everyone in 3 despite winning the first set against Venus and Henin, serves for match against Venus. Venus beats King, but loses to everyone else commiting the highest number of UEs in her group, but also hitting the most aces. Graf beats everyone, straight setting Henin and needing 3 to beat everyone else. Henin beats King and Venus, but loses to everyone else.

Navratilova and Graf Advance to the SF

Lower Half

Evert beats everyone in 3 sets, surviving Serena serving for the match in a thrilling come from behind victory. Serena, after losing to Evert despite having it in her hands, gets insanely angry, goes into ref killer mode, and beats everybody else. Court beats Seles and Mandlikova, Mandlikova beats Seles by going into her rarely seen amazing tennis to avoid going 0-4, Seles wonders why she bothered showing up in the first place and goes and buys some popcorn to eat while watching the rest of the tournament, may as well, shes there.

Evert and Serena advance to the SF

Semi Finals

Evert vs Navratilova- a dogfight the whole way through, Navratilova manages to edge out the win in the 3rd set as Evert shows signs of fatigue and Martina manages to get a good read on the Evert Lob.

Serena vs Graf- Graf wins in 3, coming from behind after frequently baiting Serena to net with drop shots and passing her, throwing Serena off her game and driving her to a bunch of UE's while Graf keeps her cool.

Final

Graf vs Navratilova- Graf wins in 4, suffering a momentary lapse of form in the 2nd set, as well as at the beginning of the 4th, but she wins by a score of 63 26 64 75

and one more

Upper half of the draw:
Navratilova, King, Venus, Graf, Henin

Lower half of the draw
Evert, Serena, Court, Seles, WILD CARD=Jana Novotna

Novotna chooses old, fast Wimbledon Grass.

Upper Half:

The Upper half is a total bloodbath. Henin loses all of her matches, but takes a set in each one. Graf manages to win all but her match against Martina, which she loses in 2 tense tiebreaks. Martina beats everyone, rallying from a set down to beat Venus and King. Venus beats Henin, but loses to King commiting a slew of errors. King wins against Venus thanks to aforementioned UEs and also beats Henin.

Graf and Navratilova advance to the SF

Lower Half:

Evert straight sets Seles, baiting her around the court on her weakest surface. She comes from 3-1 down in both the first and 2nd sets to do this. She beats everyone except for Court, who she loses to in 3 sets. She rallies from a set down to beat Novotna and breadsticks her in the 3rd set. She also beats Serena in 3, thanks to Serena making a number of UEs. Court beats Serena in 3 and Novotna in 3, Novotna again wins the first set but fails to win. She cries after the match. Serena beats Novotna and Seles, just because she can even though she cannot advance at this point. Seles beats Novotna.

Novotna loses all of her matches despite winning the first set of every one of them, cries again, and consults a shrink.

Court and Evert advance to the SF

Semi's

Martina vs Evert- Evert wins the 1st set with a stunning display of passing and lobbing, running Martina all over the court. Martina comes out firing in the 2nd set and knicks line after line with her volley's. The 3rd set is a nailbiter decided by a tiebreak.... Martina edges Evert out 26 62 76(6) with a powerful smash counter to the Evert lob.

Court vs Graf- Graf comes out swinging with blitzing passing shots, driving the ball deep and returning hard using her forehand to drive the attack. Court's volley attack is halted, and thus Graf wins in a 75 64 victory as Court gets rattled. Court assumed she would win as the Grass suited her volley style and she had won all her RR matches...Graf took advantage.

Final

Martina vs Graf- in a rematch of their RR match, Graf comes out blazing on all cylanders, determined not be straight setted off the court this time around. She wins the first set losing just 1 game in all of 25 minutes. Martina however refuses to die, and the rest of the match is a dogfight of contrasting styles. Martina however again gets the edge, outlasting Graf 16 75 76(4) 36 75, saving set points in the 2nd set and coming from 5-4 down in the 5th. Graf raises Navratilova's hand afterwards in a gracious display of sportsmanship and the 2 share a hug.

nice one BTURNER

ok..

Upper half - Navratilova, Evert, Henin, Venus, Court
lower half - Graf, Serena, Goolagong, King, WILD CARD = Virginia Wade

Wade chooses specifically to play at Wimbledon

Upper Half: Henin gets beaten in everymatch, then complains in a press conference that she would have done a lot better in the bottom half. Serena gives her a coy wave from the audience. Navratilova, Evert and Court all slug the daylights out of each other. Evert comes up short against both, losing in 3 both times, but manages to defeat Venus and Henin. Court, hungry to prove her Aussie's aren't flukes and she can play at wimbledon, wins all of her matches. Martina wins all but her match to Court, but struggle big time with Venus. Venus beats Henin and blows her chance to serve out Martina.

Court and Martina advance to the SF

Bottom Half: Wade, spurred by a hungry hometown crowd, goes on a dream run. She straight sets Goolagong, then holds King off in 3. Serena beats her down in the first set, but cracks as the crowd boos her incessantly and Wade pulls off the come from behind, Wade then loses her nerve against Steffi and gets straight setted. Serena quits, and vows never to play Wimbledon again. Graf wins all of her matches, and attempts to talk Serena into playing again, but fails. King destroys Goolagong in about and hour and wins her match with Serena via default, Goolagong loses all of her matches except a default from Serena, and leaves to go dancing.

Wade and Graf advance to the SF

Wade vs Court- Wade comes out strong, and wins the first set, and manages to get a break in the 2nd, but after this she starts to collapse, and is unable to continue her impressive form. Court beats her 36 75 62

Graf vs Martina- In a match that Everyone says is the "real final", there is no disappointment. Both give it their all, but Graf comes out on top 64 36 64.

Court vs Graf- Court, furious at the press for saying it was Graf to lose, comes out firing and brings her best. She before the matchs says "I had the tougher round robin, and I won it". She wins the first set, but is unable to fully outmanuever the speedy Steffi. Steffi wins 36 62 63.

Court angrily leaves to start her own religion.
