Zeverev in sude de France? Nostra showing off that Standford edumicashun again.

Zverev FTW, vulturing another 250. He has won 7 of his 19 titles at 250 level and another 4 at 500 level. Majoring in minors. Still no top 10 match wins at slams.

Good win Tsonga! He can still hit the balls! He hit some sweet bh dtl winner! He ended the last two points with bh dtl passing shot winner and fh cc passing shot winner!

Tsonga won is through, could be a nice swan song for him here, not the toughest draw.

I’m very happy Jo got the win, his first ATP level since Marseille’21, but for a guy who lost his second match last week at the Quimper Challenger to Alexandre Muller, I’m not seeing a possible path of Krajinovic, Basilashvili, RBA and the Monfils/Zverev winner as easy at all.

As to “swan song” potential, I have yet to see any recent indication from Tsonga that he intends on retiring soon. The only comment I was able to find was made before AO, when he hoped to get a WC there and stated he has a great bit of optimism he can get back to full health and play all of 2022. If that sentiment has changed in the past month I would like to see such an announcement if you have a link. Thanks.

Oh I'm just guessing based on results and his age and health. If he doesn't make it past 1R at a Slam or past 2R at a Masters he might hang it up unless he's a Robredo clone.

Tennis analyst, color commentator is probably next career move! A Jim Courier clone!

Yes, he did say he has a vision of when he will retire but he is unwilling to share it yet. That quote is from the off-season so it may already be outdated. That’s why I asked if you have an update. If he does give it a full year and retires on his own terms, perhaps the 4x champion chooses Metz this autumn as his last stop.

What happened in the Dzumhur/Basher match? I missed it. Was Zoomie having a particularly good day, or is the Basher continuing his walking wounded mode? A bit of both?

Soonwoo's forehand was not up to the task today, but good win for Gasquet. Managing to break after a nine minute game....

So surprised to see how Monfils was slaughtered by Ymer in their match...

Zverev is so amazing in best of 3 - why are those two more sets so daunting for him? (;

Will Monfils get fined for tanking a match like this ? he even petted Ymer on the back after the 1st set during the changeover,, like he was saying,,, "Good job kid". LOL :-D :-D After the 1st set ?? really ?

Monfils was trying to hit his shots harder. It looked great when he made it but was low percentage for his usual game of patience and longer rallies from back of the court. He blew several 40-15 games with drives into the net or long.

It was surprising to see this match and also read in another thread about ymer playing karatsev. Didn't know there was another ymer, elias, playing as well.

No Bc sadly tennis does nothing about the rampant tanking and match fixing. Monfils even “apologized” after the match to make it look good. I didn’t see the match, but numerous people said it was clearly a thrown match and the posts are abundant on social media.

Thought he always played his best at French tournaments. Seems strange to see him fold like this. If he didn't want to play, why bother entering? :cautious:

Bublik vs Krajinovic and Zverev vs Ymer in tomorrow's semis :) :) :)

I have been liking the level of play I have been seeing from Bublik this week - of course I think Zverev will win the tournament, he is always at his best in best of 3 matches.

Was the line calling not good? RBA was really angry about a bublik 2nd serve being called an ace out wide ad side on the penultimate point of the match in the tiebreaker. There was no replay shown on tennis channel. Gasquet too complained about a call in his match against ymer.

To be fair,, Ymer is playing some great tennis, he destroyed Gasquet today so he must be really good. and maybe that annialation of Monfils was real. maybe Ymer was playing like GOAT Rafa and Monfils had no answer ??:unsure:;)

Come on, Gasquet at least took him to 3 sets. Monfils, who had just made the quarters of the AO and took a top #10 player to 5 sets, could manage just a lousy 3 games to a guy ranked #83 in the 2nd round of a 250??? Something wasn't right.

so you are saying chances of Ymer upsetting Rafa at this year's french open isn't very high ??

Bublik has been playing his best tennis and is into the final. Most likely he will play Zverev but we'll see if Ymer has enough to his game to make it to the final instead of Sasha...

Maybe Monfils is trying out a new strategy to go for more power. He was hitting with more pace and threw away a few games from 40-15.

Ymer has been defending and absorbing power very well against both monfils and gasquet. But he was also down a couple of breaks to gasquet and recovered by wearing down an already hurting gasquet by making the rallies longer and running down everything.
Zverev otoh did a beat down of mannarino 1&0.

Bublik vs Zverev in the final - does Bublik have anything he can do to win the tournament or will this be Zverev's 20th title? I think the latter...

why is Zeverev even playing in the 250 event ? isn't he too big time for that now ? isn't he in the coversation with top 5 players like Rafa, Novak and Federer ?

He went in search of his mojo....
So he is choking again playing against very hot player, Bublik. He can't seem to get thru a player with talent that is playing on top of their form, whenever he runs into these guys. Top guys like Novak and Rafa find a way to get thru these players that is playing hot,, But Sasha just seem not be able to:rolleyes::rolleyes:
