I mean, on paper they should definitely have had Ram/Krajicek for the finals. In reality Sock is a better player than his current doubles ranking indicates, and has banked a lot of DC credits. Dropping him for Kraijeck (who has made a late run into the top 10 and I think never played DC before) would probably not be popular with the team at this late stage of the competition.
I can see why he was selected. That said I agree he's not such an important player that he should be calling the shots on who his partner is.
Mardy Fish has always struck me as someone without a lot of self-confidence and it definitely feels like he's let himself be pushed around by the team here

Socks ranking had zero to do with injury and had everything to do with not wanting to put the work off the court.
