Osaka officially taking a break from Tennis

I don't think she wants to play tennis anymore. Or even wanted to play tennis in the first place. She was living her pushy parents dream and she had enough of it, which is why she's been acting strange ever since the Australian Open.

It's time that Naomi gets a good therapist and takes time to reflect on her reactions. She's a good-to-great tennis player who is having problems deciding what she wants from life. Lord knows, she has enough money to walk away from the game if that's her decision.

Retire from tennis for couple of years and work on mental health, and see if she can resolve it somehow. Obviously what she's tried so far and physician she's been working with hasn't helped her much. Sometimes it takes a while to find the right doctor. This is the best advice anyone can give her.

Wonder if she will ever play again. Unfortunate. 4 slam winner at her age possibly done.
It's a little premature to talk of a permanent break.
her team won't let her.

she genuinely requires counseling and a total break including no publicity shoots.
But her team will push her into lucrative shoots and the social media will go to town on it, leading to more pressure on Naomi. Sad!

It's a fairly common occurrence in the WTA. Plenty of shooting stars that burn out in 2-3 years.
Staying on top of the game is a full time job that requires grueling physical training. Few have the motivation to stick to it for the long term, especially after they've made enough money to live a relatively comfortable life.

On the other hand, players like Serena, Sharapova, Halep - they're there to win. More respect to them.
