Osaka splits from coach

So Osaka is cheap?
Cheap and spoiled and unloyal friend. From what I am hearing, Osaka didn't really think of Sasha as being a great coach. He wasn't giving her enough good useful coaching information. He was good for hitting balls, that was about it. and when he demanded premium dollar as premiere WTA coach, she didnt' want to pay that. She only wanted to pay for ball machine kind of fee. But Sasha must have done something right ????? Naomi totally sucked in the majors before sasha and she became a different player after sasha took over.

Maybe she will go crying to him in 6 month after she starts to suck again ?

Can't Naomi find a female coach? Someone with four or five kids? Or should she become, wait.......................................................a player/coach?

The pressure will be on Naomi to win whatever tournament she plays next without him.
She's down to play Dubai, but I don't think she will now.

They hinted on the tennis channel that they were having some problems back at the AO. She referred to only hitting with him and not really getting coaching by him at AO. There is more to this riff than we know. It's such a shame. He took here from 68 in the world to number 1. He really changed her game by adding more shape and spin to her shots and making her much more consistent.

Never thought I'd see Osaka in the role of Tommy Gunn

I remember someone else also pointed out that she never specifically named him when thanking people after winning either.

At the time I just rolled my eyes at over-analyzing the situation, but I guess there really was something to it.

She said in AO press conference after one match. "nothing really we don't talk much"

When they asked Osaka what advice did your coach give you for match

Shriver also said during AO broadcast that Osaka and Sasha were fighting a lot on practice courts.

anyone think there was more to osaka/sacha relationship than just being her coach?

There was a weird exchange between Naomi and Sascha at Brisbane.
When playing against Tsurenko she was kinda having a mini-meltdown and brought him on for coaching. He didn't seem to know how to help her and as he left court his mic was still on and you could hear him say to himself 'oh my gaaaawd' in a super exasperated way like she was being a massive drama queen.

It's easy to say in hindsight, but there have been a few warning signs.

It's quite possible that he wasn't providing her with anything she felt was truly valuable to her. People tend to blame the player when there is a rift with the coach, but the reality is that sometimes the coach is the problem. Just because he was Serena's hitting partner doesn't mean he has credentials as a coach.

Sure, he was obviously so unexperienced and so bad as a coach that she won IW and 2 slams on her own. Such a brilliant rough talent! But actually you don't win slams if your coach "just feeds you balls".

That sums her up. She's too clever and manipulative. That I get from her.

She will go back if she starts to fall, I don't doubt it.

And what a cold hearted message too.

'Hey everyone, I will no longer be working together with Sascha. I thank him for his work and wish him all the best in the future.'

Whereas Sashas'

'Thank you Naomi I wish you nothing but the best as well. What a ride that was. Thank you for letting me be part of this.'

Feels warm and grateful.

You assume that Osaka owes some of her success to her coach. That's a WRONG assumption pure and simple. The link between coaching and the player's performance varies A LOT from situation to situation. Look at Simona Halep. For years she struggled with inconsistency and losing in big matches. She took FOREVER to win a Slam final. You could blame Darren Cahill, based on your logic. But Simona was choking big matches DESPITE what her coach was telling her. It's possible Osaka won those two Slams without any helpful input from Sasha. We don't have all the facts so shouldn't jump to blanket statement conclusions like you did.

It is impossible to win a slam without a good coach. Where was she before Bajin? An impressive but mindless exotic looking ball basher. I bet without him she would wait for slams for another couple of years for sure. Sorry to disappoint you, no one even Osaka can achieve success without a coach.
