I would put 2004 over 2006. in 2004 imo federer had a better field to deal with than in 2006. 2010 over 2003. he still won a masters in 2010 compared to 2003

and 2008 murray over 2009 murray anytime. in 2008 hecreached a slam final while in 2009 he did not

I might even put 2009 under 2005 for nadal

I would put 2008 as Nadal's best year
peak clay and grass form
winning olympics on a fast Beijing court
reaching for the first time semis of both hardcourt slams
32 match winning streak over 3 surfaces
sure he did win 3 slams in 2010 but I'm more impressed with his 2008 performance

04 doesn't go over 06, but I would put it over 05.

2005 was the year, Nadal won the most titles in his career. That cannot be the worst year.
Neither can 2008 be the second worst year for Fed imo. He still made it to three slam finals and came within two points of winning two slams.
And 2006 is his best year imo.

2004 over 2006 anytime. The field in.2006 was downright horrible and i say this as a fed fan. in 2004 there were hewitt and roddick playing at their best and even Safin playing well. Even in 2005 these 3 were still close to their best.

in 2006 all 3 were gone or in a slump.

His 2004 AO draw was tougher than his 2006. and he won it dropping just 2 sets in the last 4 matches vs much better opponents compared to 2006.

This why i value 2004 and 2005 more than 2006. in 2004-2005 you still had hewitt roddick and safin playing near their best and also nalbandian and agassi playing well.
no way would davydenko and blake enter the top 4 with hewitt and roddick at their best. in 2004-2005 they were nowhere near top 4.

fortunately the field got better in 2007 with the arrival of djokovic and nadal

These are the correct rankings:

Roger Federer's best years
1. 2006
2. 2005
3. 2004
4. 2007
5. 2009
6. 2008
7. 2003
8. 2012
9. 2010
10. 2011
11. 2013

Rafael Nadal
1. 2010
2. 2008
3. 2013
4. 2011 (he reached 3 slam finals. It would have been 2010 redux if not for Djokovic)
5. 2005
6. 2007
7. 2012
8. 2009 (he would have had fantastic year if not for knee injury)
8. 2006
9. 2005 (yeah he won 11 titles but 8 were on clay and his showings outside RG were mediocre)

Novak Djokovic
1. 2011
2. 2013
3. 2012
4. 2008
5. 2007
6. 2010 (he reached slam final this year but not in 2009)
7. 2009

Andy Murray
1. 2012
2. 2013
3. 2011 (most consistent year in slams but kept losing to Nadal)
4. 2008 (made first slam final)
5. 2010
6. 2009

Nadal's 2005 is seriously underrated here. A Slam, 4 Masters and 11 titles overall, 90% of his matches won. That's one of his best seasons when he won 1 Slam.

I put it second to 2007 out of his one slam seasons. In 2007 he was great on clay and on grass. His performance at the AO IMO was pretty much the same both years he was just unlucky to run into Gonzo in the quarters. At Indian Wells he dominated the event playing some of his best ever hardcourt tennis.

He also made the finals of Paris Indoors and the semi's of the YEC. I rank it slightly above 2005.
