"Outsider" Perspectives on Tennis Less Filtered

On Good Morning Britain today the reporter said Emma Radnucanu is emulating the likes Federer and Serena to win her first slam as a teenager!!!!

The Federer propaganda is so indelible that people don't even bother to check the facts anymore because they've been told for so long that Federer has broken all the records and he is the greatest player to ever pick up a racquet.
Federer has been bestowed the GOAT honour no matter what anyone else does.

Indeed. All the bickering here has no impact on the general outsider's view.
Fact is the GOAT has been decided by the masses, and it won't be changing anytime soon.
Still, our goats are our goats. Mine is Nadal. Ain't no rhetoric, from TTW, other tennis 'enthusiasts' or outsiders gonna change that.
BTW, love that little logo making its way in there. Federer's way of making up for not going to Tokyo lol.

The GOAT has been basically decided since 2009 for the general public. The GOAT for actual tennis fans is subjective on whatever you choose to value more. people who are stat junkies lean towards Djokovic as he leads in all important stats, people who are impressed by consistent domination of a surface lean towards Nadal, and people who value things like elegance, shot-making, and how good a player looks while playing, lean towards Federer.

When did you concede?

Was it a specific article/episode/whatever...? Or just more of a general "preponderance of the evidence" sort of thing.
I have never believed that there can be a GOAT. The narrow criteria of slam count is ridiculous but it's not up to me if the pundits and the media continue to promote Federer as the GOAT regardless. That's a fact. I'm just trying to convince those who engage in endless GOAT debates that the statistics don't matter. Federer has been promoted as the GOAT for nearly 20 years; it' ingrained in the psyche of the global casual tennis fan and nothing will change now.

For me, Rafa is the greatest player I've ever seen. I haven't conceded.

All these "free" and "subjective" interpretations and perspectives on who is the Goat will be possible until it's 20-20-20 and someone from those 3 doesn't make a more substantial lead in the Slam count. ;)

I accept the things I cannot change, try to change the things I can and hope I can tell the difference.

Margaret Court retired in 1977 with 24 slams. That's 44 years ago and people are still arguing about who is the female GOAT. Slam count cannot be the defining factor, imo.

Trying to argue about who is the GOAT is like hitting your head against a brick wall. For me the GOAT is Nadal. He isn't for many but they also have a right to think who is the GOAT for them.
Until we have a TIGER that is "Regardless" then it is all subjective and opinions.

Is anyone going to point out that if you slapped a wig on old Fed he’d make the perfect evil witch in the Snow White remake?

The photographer did not do Roger justice, that's for sure. Maybe it's a power move though. It doesn't matter how you look when you're Roger Federer.

Good for you and although Fed is the GOAT for me, I'm not going to force you to change your opinion.

Gotta love all these posters that come to a specialist tennis website and then claim that tennis GOATness will simply be decided by general interest magazines!  ;)

The essence of the Nadal fan demonstrated in two quotes.
No! Nadal's fan are the most humble and know the odds are against them and they respect that. But for THEM he's a GOAT because they love him/his style of play/whatever.
The funny thing is that he's such a king of clay. Everyone readily admits it Nadal fans are happy and don't want more.
Just let people treat GOAT less serious - as their favourite.
The next gen gives different answers depending who they're next to - Novak or Roger.

For all of you watching tennis since the 80s: My personal GOAT is Pete Sampras! What a legend. He had 14 Grand Slams competing across multi-generational grand slam winners (McEnroe, Edberg, Becker, Connors, Agassi, Chang, Stich, Muster, Kuerten, Rafter, Hewitt, Krajicek, Korda, Henman) across truly diverse surfaces.

The essence of this Nadal fan is that if it was up to me I don't think there can be a GOAT but as it isn't up to me, as far as the GOAT debate goes, I would say Nadal is the GOAT, because I accept the things I cannot change, try to change the things I can and hope I can tell the difference.

No GOAT for me, never was one, never will be one.

Though Federer, Nadal and Djokovic will always be counted among the greatest.

You're still contradicting yourself. If you don't think that there is a GOAT, then you should say for you there is no GOAT. Anything else doesn't make sense or you are lying.

Goat is Federer or Nadal. Go to any sporting event where sports is generally discussed and Federer and Nadal get mentioned.
Djokovic is not in the discussion. He is the Connors of this era. The 80s and 70s is all Borg/Mcenroe. Connors had the longesst stint at no.1 and more majors than Mcenroe and even was closer in age to Borg i think yet the perception of that era was the Borg/Mcenroe era.
after the failed cygs attempt sadly this era will be Nadal and Federer. No menage a trois here

This is exactly the reality. Selective statistics are meaningless; it's all about impact and for this era Federer and Nadal have made the biggest impact on the sport. Borg and MEnroe caught the imagination of their era but no other players did until Federer and Nadal. Sampras and Agassi were rivals but they didn't have a lasting legacy on the sport.
