Pablo Carreno Busta's haters are some of the saltiest people on the planet

Like 9 people were in Ashe to watch the match

Both Carreno Busta and Schwartzman are better than what they played here and the reason I like watching ATP Tour matches more than Slams. Disappointing match overall with a number of games settled by unforced errors and nervy shots. I guess Carreno deserved it in the end for keeping the cooler head.

terminator2000
who were the idiots saying they don't want to see the big 4 anymore? now you get this guy vs Anderson or that American dude. Tell me who is going to watch this.

rits1970
Busta played safe, solid tennis. He has now won 5 matches with straight set wins. However i feel that the winner of the Querrey/Anderson match will defeat him easily

realitycheck
worst quarterfinal ever - and to think there are 3 more coming - without the great NOVAK - this is what tennis has become - below sea level mediocrity - painful to watch

thesage
AND BUSTA WINS BY A NOSE!

celach
Schwartzman definitely had his chances, Carreno Busta came through in almost all the big moments. But I think he's going to get destroyed by whoever wins Querrey/Anderson.

And below are some comments from http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/news/carreno-busta-shapovalov-us-open-2017-sunday

If the US Open was actually playing like a hardcourt, Busta would have been out within 90 minutes. But alas, this blue clay favored the dirtballer (of Busta's 8 quarterfinals, only 3 came off clay, one of which being the US Open. And Indian Wells is slow as dirt too). And now we have TWO dirtballers into the quarterfinals of the US Open with Schwartzman.

luli
Busta is the worst quarterfinalist and the most undeserving one. The only reason why he won is because Sapovalov was tiered mentally and physically after long run at USO. This kind of outcomes are the worst possible. Busta has been around for a long while yet he did not do anything important or make top tennis challenging or interesting. Boring

realitycheck
don't be offended - the great Dustin Brown has taken all your expert advice in consideration and rejected it - Denis will continue his path towards the dark side so butt pickers , old men, and big noses cannot hurt him.

kostaras
Such a shame for Shapo, but it was a hell of a learning experience. As he said, he needs to keep improving and learn to do new things. He is great from the baseline but his net game is bad! Even i can volley better than him. He needs to fix that asap, as well as learn to dropshot! If he fixes his versatility, he is gonna win big titles eventually.

realitycheck

to those who feel busta is undeserving to be in the qfs , now the manlet diego joins him - with butt pickers and wrinkled geezers at the top and huge noses and midgets on the bottom who wouldn't love this us open

realitycheck

there is a new sheriff in town - busta and his gigantic nose is now the favorite to beat the butt pickers and wrinkled has beens at the top

  1. George Turner There are some relatively weak players who have reached semi finals. Mariano Puerta 2005 French open, Mal Washington 1996 Wimbledon, Chris Lewis 1983 Wimbledon (who all reached the final) are examples that spring to mind. Robby Ginepri reaching the 2005 US open semi is arguably the worst player ever to get this far. Is Carreno Busta in this sort of league? He's had a ridiculously easy run, four qualifiers then a quarter finalist who lost 6-0 6-0 to Baghdatis last year. He's not beaten anyone he's not expected to beat, simply been in the right place at the right time.Am i being harsh or no? killerboi2 likes this.

He is probaby benefitting from the p1ss poor field this year, but so is everyone else, including both Federer and Nadal.

Not a fan of Shapovalov?

Carreno Busta is having better results this year than previous years, At best he's another Roberto Bautista Agut.

With an active big four these sort of guys wouldn't have a prayer of reaching the semis. Shows how much lower standards will be post big four.

CB can't be any worse than Cilic was in the Wimbledon final so there's that.
You think Busta can't do worse ? See what happens should he face Fedal in the finals . And that Cilic was injured while Busta in full flight will not even take a set to TB

Djokovic is a clown, who fluked away to a lone major when Fed was sick- @Thunder

OP, welcome to these boards.

Mostly agree. Like @TennisLBC said the overwhelming majority of posters don't play - or not very well - and have no appreciation for the skill and effort. Happy for both; great result.

But I will admit I was watching off the DVR and at times was thankful because the matchup did lead to repetitive points.

Carreno Busta is playing phenomenal tennis. The guy reminds me of Beethoven and the Age of the Romantics. He has the style, the grace, and the game. It's come together a bit late for the Spaniard, but this run reminds me of a certain Roger Federer circa 2003. What a revelation!
Pretty sure I've never actually seen him in action. Sounds like I'm missing out. Deco Turf Ludwig? Sign me up.

crompton... back down to Earth with the title formatting. You've done better (see pixelated monolith).

whats going on here

I didn't know PCB had such dedicated fans.

Also the ATP.com and ATP facebook comments sections are always cancer. Mostly Indian Fed cultists and middle-aged Serbian men hating on Federer in my experience.

What is with that, btw? Why do you suppose Fed struck such a rich vein of idolatry there?

Actually I think they got rid of it.

Fed probably decided to have a look and then quickly took an axe to the server.
That site was such a disappointment. Very little information of value. Took it down for months, promising an overhaul. Comes back up and it's a cheap display window for RF merchandise.

The site has never been great. Too many flash and active elements, it's never run that cleanly, and the fonts and links were too fiddly.

Like what exactly were they working on? It's really not good at all. There can't be budgetary constraints. I don't get why it went down for so long... only to come back with nothing new, nothing improved.

I'm telling you, the main "improvement" was to remove that forum. :D

Someone must have finally looked at it.

But yeah the site is little more than a stub now. Even the "shop" isn't native. It just links to a TW-affiliated outlet

Agree. It ruins the consistency of the thread list and might make people think their computer has a virus.
Good point on the virus thing. I like fonts (not that this one seems especially interesting) and it just jumped out. I was actually wondering how he'd done it, lol. No formatting options for titles on here of which I'm aware.

Its simple. He is of latin descent so the derogatory remarks are bourne of racism. No other reason although those who crticise try to hide behind the fact they dont like clay court tennis, which of course is a misnomer given clay and grass are the most prestigious surfaces to excel on

I was trying to figure it out myself to be honest. Special characters could be used to denote Match threads / tournament threads and suchlike and could be used where appropriate. I tried to pull up info on formatting information here and I couldn't find anything either. But I'm hopeless with computers.

Thinking it must be a cracked version of whatever the site's running. I toyed with a few things to see if I could replicate that (or get anything other than the default) and nothing doing.

The people who whinge about Djokovic, Murray, Wawrinka, Raonic and Nishikori being absent forget the old saying, i.e. you've got to be in it to win it. It's annoying in one sense that Murray took forever to withdraw when the rest of us seemed to know it since he lost at Wimbledon, thus depriving us of a potential US Open final between Nadal and Federer, but on the other hand it means a completely new dynamic with an unexpected finalist from the bottom half of the draw.

Pablo Carreno Busta has worked very hard to get where he is today. He deserves his semi final spot.

Someone messaged me and said if you can find the font name the site uses and you have the font on your computer you can use a program called character map to look up weird extra parts of the font that you can't type from your keyboard. Apparently sometimes fonts have multiple alphabets (so the same letters listed multiple times) that are designed in odd ways that don't look like the rest of the font and character map lets you see every single character that a font has.

How on earth you would find out what font this website uses is beyond me. This might be how he did it.

Interesting. Impressive work for a new member! Quick study that one.

I don't remember where, but I think I saw the font name somewhere. Actually yes--just checked--there are half a dozen fonts listed when you click a little letter icon above the comment box. See all those options? On phone right now so it's small.

"Spanish dirtballer" - Hmmm, do people watch tennis at all? At least from the set and a half I saw, Busta was hitting deep groundies with decent race, not 'moonballs'. Not very unlike RBA.
