Pain in back of knee - can't play tennis

I am a 61-year-old female living in Marina Del Rey, California, and I play tennis and Paddletennis! For the past three months I've not been able to play tennis due to this shooting pain in my lateral posterior compartment of my right knee. I have seen three orthopedics, and each of them recommend knee replacement surgery. My biggest fear is that I will not be able to play as well (4.5 level) or as often as I play now, and I'm also afraid that if I have a knee replacement it won't address the pain in the back of my knee. Tennis is my oxygen… If I can't play I don't know what I'm going to do. Has anybody else had pain in the back of their knee or had a knee replacement due to the pain? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Sorry about your knee.

Its doubtful because you saw 3 orthos but i had a Bakers cyst that created pain behind the knee though i wouldnt call it shooting pain.

A couple of years ago I had pain in the back of knee that did not allow me to run or play tennis.

I saw a product called Pro-Tec Back of Knee Wrap. It wasn't expensive and I know some straps (for tennis elbow, IT bands, etc.) can help alleviate pain quite a bit, so I ordered the strap.

In my case, it was almost magical. As soon as I put the strap on, the pain diminished to the point that I could play again, so I continued to play with the aid of the strap until the pain in the back of the knee disappeared on its own in about 5-6 months.

No doctor, no physio, nothing.

That's my story. Your mileage would most likely vary.
