pain in left knee

I am 27 years old and play tennis on a very regular basis. I have been feeling discomfort in my left knee area for the last 4 weeks. It doesn't really hurt when I walk or do any minor thing. But when I squat (or bend left leg and put my body weight on it) for more than 10-15 seconds and then stand up again, I feel pain close to the left knee. The pain goes away after I remain standing for a while. I am not really able to locate where exactly it hurts, but it's somewhere near the knee and the region slightly below.

i laugh at joint pain!! LOL!!

Take glucosamine and chondroitin which can be found in any supermarket. Chances are, your running form sucks. You're supposed to be absorbing the impact with your muscles, not your joints :/ harharharharharharhar:confused::confused:

It's the left knee only which hurts, so I don't think I am doing something wrong while running. My guess is that this is happening due to serves since the left knee gets a jolt when the body lands on it after hitting the ball.

I haven't changed anything in my routine. Typically, I bike a few miles everyday and play tennis for 1-2 hrs. I can't exactly pinpoint where it hurts but I think it's the knee and the region just below it. The pain is not sharp -- it's more like a pain caused by muscles and not nerves.

If the pain is under the knee cap, it is probably chrodolomaycia (Sp?); if it is just below the knee, probably the beginnings of patella tendonitis. Ice it; take ibuprofen; if it gets worse, go to an orthopedist.

Sounds like tendonitis. Rest, ice, compress, elevate. Ibuprofen would also help. If you want to exercise, you can tape the area just below the patella to alleviate the pain. You can search online as to how to do that.

I would agree with the first two suggestions. I had a meniscus tear, not tendinitis, but those were the initial suggestions I got from my doctor. But I don't think you should exercise. I had the same symptoms when before I had surgery (and after a lot of exercise now even). My knee wouldn't normally hurt, only in one or two certain positions. The best thing to do would be to go to a doctor as soon as possible and get an MRI done. Good luck.

I have all sorts of pains in my left knee. I can always trace it down to some muscle or tightness somewhere. The latest method I'm using is rolling on a small medicine ball. Man does that do the trick! New levels of pain tolerance training. It's fun

sounds more like the OP has patella maltracking or as was mentioned - condromalaysia patellae. this means you knee cap is not moving in its proper place.

try 1/4 squats against the wall with a pillow between your knees. do not squeeze the pillow but just keep it from dropping out. tighten your thigh muscles and then slowly (as slow as possible) slide down the wall until your knees go over your toes (your feet should be about 30cm in front of you and about 30cm apart). hold at that position for about 3 sec and then slowly straighten up. repeat 10 times morning and evening. do not force yourself through aches and pains.

Tenli-if you can't exactly determine where your pain is how can anybody help you. Also, pain doesn't usually just appear without some type of cause-not stretching, doing new activity, doing more of a work load, ect. You need to be more specific! Is the pain in the front of the knee or on the side.? What did you do differently 4 weeks ago that brought this pain on?
