Pam Shriver: Classless AND Clueless (Spoiler Warning)

In her on court post-match interview of Wozniacki, I was shocked at her blatant disrespectful dismissal of Wickmayer. Evidently, I wasn't the only one since the crowd started whistling and booing. Amazingly, she didn't even understand why the crowd reacted that way.

Pam Shriver owes Wickmayer a public apology. Disgusting way to treat a Grand Slam semi-finalist.

I agree with the OP. Shriver was not just dismissive but quite disparaging in the way she said "Wickmayer". It was funny when the crowd booed that line and she didn't have a clue as to why they did it.

Props to Wozniacki though. She handled the match and the interview with a lot of composure.

BTW, how cool is it for Belgium that they have two women in the semis, both of them quite unexpected?

Also way to put Oudin on the spot. Yeah, Pam "convinced" her. She clearly did not want to do the interview, but it would have been an insult to the crowd if she refused.

What exactly did she say? I missed it.

To have a reason to complain, obviously.

Put your thinking cap on there Ronnie. That is the equivalent of me creating a thread and putting "Abusing other member warning" in the title. It is admitting a fault and I am well within my right to complain.

Well, my intention was only to discuss Pam Shriver's behavior and not the match result itself, which is why I didn't post this in the Match Results forum. Of course, I didn't want to spoil the match for anyone who hadn't seen it, so I figured a spoiler warning would be an appropriate compromise. At any rate, someone else had posted a "Cinderella Story Over" type title that was already at the top of the page.

Look Chic. You're trolling at this point. Report your little violations and shove off. It says "spoiler warning" okay? People want to talk about this. It's an interesting discussion and you're trolling. If you're stupid enough to click on a thread that says "spoiler warning" then you deserve to have the match ruined for you.

Go away.

Thanks for the video link.

That was really, really classless. She should be fired immediately for that.

reporters: ESPN tennis analyst Pam Shriver was brutally beaten to death with what looks to be a tennis racquet. the racquet is believed to be owned by a k. wickmayer...

Pam Shriver was arrogant and dismissive the way she said "Wickmayer" . I am so happy that the smart NY crowd booed her immediately. Sad that she didnt seem to get why the crowd was booing.

I have heard her about her classless remark of Garrison in the 90's. She has not changed.

BTW, did she and Martina have a fight towards the later part of the career? why did they have different partners ?

hahahaha I thought it was funny!

and at least she was being honest; not like Wickmayer was ever expected to get that in the first place! it sounded more like a gesture of incredulity than of disrespect imho anyway.

anyyyyywayyyyyy.....back on topic......

I don't know how much of that was Shriver and how much was her producer telling her to do it, but it sure came off really bad. Terrible, terrible decision by whoever it was to force Oudin to do a "loser interview"--it was clear that all she wanted to do was get off the court and cry. She's a 17-year-old girl; that was pretty heartless.

I have no idea what was even up with that derisive "Wickmayer" comment. Just....wow. Why?

I wonder what it would take to get Pam fired. She has acted rudely and disresectfully so many times and yet remains. Maybe a backlash of the fans will make the producers think twice but I doubt it since all they are concerned with are the ratings. Too bad.

Come on, the producer told her to act like that? You cannot be serious! Shriver does what she wants to - once a spoiled rich brat, always a spoiled rich brat. She's become an old bitter woman. She hates the fact that these young women make so much and get so much publicity - she was Martina's bag carrier - she had one singles moment. Her marriage to Lazenby was a sham - he never stopped chasing other women and wasn't real secretive about it - and can you blame him?

No, that was ESPN/Shriver eager to exploit this young girl for all she was worth, is what that was. Oudin came off the court practically in tears already, and when Pam asked her to stay and do an interview (as Oudin was hurriedly packing up so she could get off the court), Oudin said incredulously, "Now??"

Even assuming your theory is correct, it still would've been better if she'd asked Oudin if she wanted to do it.

fair enough

I'd love the backlash to start now. I've been irritated for a long time by Pam Shriver's shrewish behavior on TV and this is just the last straw. I think it was just yesterday that she sexually harassed Michael Phelps when interviewing him, by asking him, "How about you show me your Speedo now?" It was clear that he was uncomfortable with the question and tried to deflect it by saying that he obviously didn't have it on under his clothes. But she persisted with some stupid comment about "just between us Baltimorans." Can you imagine if say, Darren Cahill, asked Maria Sharapova to show him where she stows away the second serve ball?!?

She seriously did this too?

It's a disgrace that this woman has a job in broadcasting.

Shriver is a complete imbecile. I just made a post about her earlier today about the moronic comment she made about Bonarenko's dog/Serna's dog and how she "doesnt want a dogfight to happen" even though the two women were not even in the same STADIUM at the time, much less sitting close to each other.

Emails should be sent to ESPN about this fool Shriver.

The Phelps thing was bizarre. It was uncomfortable. I'm not sure what's happening in sports journalism today. In place of interesting dialogue we've got childish hee-hawing (not sure what hee-hawing means).

Nah, he is still a male butterface. All I can think of when I see him is a gigantic hippo but I imagine she has her focus on areas other than his mouth.

lol that was the funniest interview i've seen in months. Phelps was just dying to get outta there. He's totally gonna run the other way next time she comes rolling around. "lol, just between us baltimorians" hahaha. Nice try Pam.

Seriously though, I can't believe her behavior with Phelps. Can you imagine if it was the other way around...what if he'd said, "Hey Pam, wanna check out my Speedo?" He would've been called out for sexual harassment. A more extreme example of this occurred when a female reporter filed complaints against the New England Patriots after being harassed in the locker room after a game against the Jets. Back then, a lot of people questioned the credibility of that reporter. Thankfully, her claims were backed up and the Patriots were fined.

I'm sincerely hope that professional journalists (broadcast or otherwise) speak up about Shriver's behavior.
