Problem with Gonzalz was, that he played not the whole long season of the pro tour, in 1965 he was second to Laver for the first 6 months, then he set out and was surpassed by Rosewall and Gimeno (who finished second in the pro Elo ranking of Jeff Sackmann behind Laver for 1965), in 1966 he played relative little, and in the 1967 he played well in the first half year, and started again in August for the Wimbledon pro. For the whole 1967 season, Gonzalez would be 4th alongside Ralston, who played pretty well in 1967.. Overall the pro pecking order of Laver, Rosewall, Gimeno was pretty established in those years. The seeding of the first open Wimbledon 1968 reflected this order of 1967, The Wimbledon seeding 1968 combined the pro and former amateurs: Laver, Rosewall, Gimeno, Newcombe, Emerson, Santana, Hoad (high for his Wimbledon pro semi), Gonzalez, Ralston, Stolle, Buchholz. In retrospect, Roche and Ashe were seeded too low, but did well in the tournament.
