Paris Olympics 2024 QF - Carlos Alcaraz vs Tommy Paul

No they don't. Many do not look good moving on clay. We see it differently. Raz can be rushed on HC imo, because of how he plays. On clay, that forehand is destructive on another level.
Raz seems to be able to take his time more on clay

Imo the red clay is slower and his forehand is easier to return and less lethal.

Medvedev on grass was causing him issues, so was Tiafoe. On clay, he has time to set every shot up, and the consistent barrage from him is often more than enough to hammer anyone. When he is on, on a clay court, he is head and shoulders above anyone else right now.

I have to agree with Hitman.

Carlos is great at all surfaces, but he's a more natural mover on clay.
The way he slided to get to a ball a few minutes ago was superb.

Carlos is an all court player and in the last 20 years the surface has been dominated by an aggressive baseline, but to me it looks like Carlos feels most at home on clay.

Exactly, his strengths are amplified on clay.

I guess his career will tell what order the surfaces are for him.

Yes. And getting the ball past him is that much harder. We know how crazy his defense is.

The guy is an all court phenom. One of a kind for his age, so his game can translate to any surface, but imo, you can see how comfortable he is on the dirt.
Although he loves variety and to dominate on Clay you need patience and baseline play, Carlos enjoys pulling off crazy net shots and whatnot which is why Grass is his best surface.
(that and the extremely shallow field)

He was a tie break away from going out in the third round at Wimbledon.

Carlos has an impulsive desire to hit highlight reel shots, that is just his personality, that does not automatically mean grass is the best surface for him. The margins to pull that off on grass is a lot harder, and we saw how many times he was broken at W this year before that awesome final performance.

Anyways, I think we know where we all stand on this.

Overall, he can play everywhere.

Yeah although Carlos has a knack for being clutch in earlier rounds and then stepping up in later rounds, His Wimbledon performance was more impressive than his RG campaign Imo.

True but grass can be more prone to upsets.

Even Djok was in trouble in both 2014 and 2015 Wimbledon events.

Nadal at the same age as Alcaraz had his battles with Soderling, Youhzny, Kendrick etc.

Raz coming back from injury and basically all of three matches on clay before RG did not help. But he also played good when he needed to. His Wimbledon final performance for me was the only real standout, he was overall better last year.

Yes. Grass is a surface where if you blink at the wrong time, it could be curtains. Especially against big servers or big flat hitters.

He got taken to five sets by Tiafoe but Imo he looked completely in control the entire match even 1-2 sets down.

Lol no. He was very close to losing the match. Had he lost , Novak would have won #25.
And Alcaraz has a big weakness vs players who can take his time away and rush him.
