He is more consistent from the ground while Alcaraz is erratic in long rallies at times.
Djokovic's defence is still elite and it would suffocate Alcaraz, because he can't hit through the Serb that easily on clay.
Djokovic can redirect shots more effectively as he'd have more time, so he can take the Spaniard's legs out more easily. Just look at the way he was making Alcaraz run like a rabbit in the first 2 sets of RG 2023 SF; even before the cramps started.
I have to disagree about consistency as I feel Alcaraz can push around Djokovic with his heavy ground strokes from both sides , especially targeting the Djokovic forehand.

Alcaraz doesn't necessarily have to hit through Djokovic for spectacular winners as Djokovic's defence while still elite would be worn down by the constant barrage of Alcaraz's shots.

Djokovic has more time but Alcaraz also has more time and even in RG 23 SF , he actually was starting to dominate Djokovic from the baseline before the cramps set in.

Djokovic has declined from last year both in terms of baseline game and movement while Alcaraz has tightened his ground game.

Djokovic of 2024 is not even close to Djokovic of 2023 and even in 2023 he was challenged by Alcaraz for the first 2 sets at RG until he broke him physically. Djokovic needs to summon his late 2015 early 2016 form to win this. I just don't see it happening.

The main problems for Djokovic right now are that for some reason his return of server against Alcaraz drops down 2 levels and it's not like Alcaraz is an elite server. Alcaraz on the other hand elevates his serve and goes ultra aggressive on return.

Djokovic has got to be prepared to run like he's never run before and to go deep in rallies almost like he's never done before. Even it might not be enough.

Everything is pointing towards an Alcaraz win. But as Roddick says repeatedly, bet against the greatest of all time at your own peril.

Quick question, have you ever rooted for Djokovic to win a big match in past?
Yes against Rublev every time , many times against Federer including WIM19 and other occasions too.

Only players I actively rooted for against Djokovic everytime where Nadal, Murray, Medvedev and left handers lol

I'll be lying if I say I want Djokovic to win tomorrow because even though I like Alcaraz , I'm pretty much done with the Big 3 era

Ah that’s cool. I have rooted for Nadal in past too! ;)

If Alcaraz can't beat this version of Djokovic, he should officially be downscaled to 5'6"
This Djokovic to be fair is looks better than Wimbledon Djokovic in my opinion. It probably still not enough but I expect a better fight. The fact it’s only best 3, different surface to grass, weather not that hot and no wind gives Djokovic a chance. He has to serve well, return well and not make silly errors to have any chance.

Australian 2017 final against Fed. I also rooted for him in the RG2019 final against thiem.

I liked meddy but I thought the us open 2019 final win was special too so I was happy for him there. He played some special tennis to win.
During Med 's NA HC run in 2019 is when I became his fan. Still happy Nadal won that great final.

I was actually hoping Med pulls through in AO22 too but not complaining with the end result though

Always does. From my perspective, he has looked out of balance on court and I don't think he can match Carlos' high tempo now. But let's see. Not shocked if Novak wins, of course... but Alcaraz has looked quite a lot stronger so far.

Weight of expectation on golden boy. Djokovic haters and Fedal lovers will never forgive him if he chokes here! ;)
Remember He has already saved tennis few times and saved them from more misery. This match mostly is only the Rafa fanatics who are sweating, thankfully RF doesn’t have a singles gold so they are not as invested in saving tennis right now. On a serious note, most of the reasonable fans are looking for a great game as the torch is getting passed this season. I think unless some crazy miracle happens, Raz takes this in straights, he is just in a different zone right now. I hope Sinner fulfills his potential and Rune starts showing up else this is going to be a massacre from here on.

Alcaraz would have to screw up to lose this. This match needs to become mental for Djokovic to win.

Alcaraz in 2 is my guess, 6-3 7-6 maybe

Djokovic has a matchup advantage over Alcaraz on clay, winning 3 of their last 4 clay sets by 1, 1 & 3. He should be the favourite in this match imo.
Alcaraz had severe cramps those last 2 sets and could barely move.

With that said, I expect this match to be much more competitive than the Wimbledon match. Despite what Djokovic said about being worried about his knee, he looks better now than he did at Wimbledon and he's uber motivated to win that Gold so I think this match will be much more of a grind for Carlos.

Alcaraz in straights, he's a massive step up from the field Djokovic has faced in this tourney.

Again bare in mind that Djokovic hasn't even beaten a top ten player this season so far.

Djokovic has to rewind the clock in order to beat Alcaraz.

And you will have made 10 threads about the reminder that Djokovic hasn't beaten top 10 right?

Alcaraz up to a -250 favorite with Djoko a +200 dog, This might the biggest Djoko has been a dog in a long, long time. Books wary of that easy money they gave out with Carlit’s only a -130 to -150 favorite at Wimbledon in which Djoko was destroyed.

So aside from lighthearted trolling on my part towards Djokovic and his fans in this site, I do actually want him to win this.

That being said I think this is Alcaraz's to lose, and while he will be feeling the pressure I also think what helps him offset that is he genuinely enjoys being out there.

I'm thinking something like 6-2 6-4.

This match is Carlos ' to lose. He is in amazing form and confidence right now he is on one of his favourite if not favourite surfaces and he is 21 and full of energy.

Novak has been fighting hard and playing some decent tennis but at 37, after a complete thrashing by same opponent 3 weeks ago and only 7 weeks after operation, I cannot see how he can win this unless Carlos has bad day at office.

I hope that is what happens ut think it is unlikely.

I suck at predictions so I will just tell you the truth about how it ends.

Djoker looks better than he did the last 6-8 months. I also see a hunger in him that I didn't see for a very long time.

Djoker will take this one even though Alcaraz is the better player.

This is one of the most important matches of Novak's career.

No doubt, he'll remain the greatest even if he loses, but that's not how a champion's mind works. He wants everything. Like Bonaparte or Alxander the Great, Novak is a conqueror, and his will will never be satisfied. He strives to conquer every single domain, every single territory there's to capure in tennis. And the Olympic Gold is no exception. All the pressure is on Novak. His last chance to achieve the only Big Title his cabinet lacks.

It means so much to Novak, it was his priority number one this year, and he'll be extremely tense and nervous. Alcaraz is 16 years younger, comes from winning 2 Slams and destroyed Novak in the W 2024 F, so he'll be the heavy favorite. But Novak is made of something special. He'll not surrender and will leave his soul on the court. If Novak does win, it'll mean a lot for him, and his fans will proudly and deservedly label it as one of the most significant achievements of his career.

The only thing that can stop Carlitos is a physical misfortune like cramping or injury. He’s too good and Novak has lost a 1/2 step.

By better player I mean his ceiling is higher.

Consistency beats the highest ceiling every day of the week and Djoker has proved that time and time again.

The difference in age is 17 years. I hope the game evolved the past 17 years. Don't you?

Heh,heh, me too. I think it did, and will continue to. They both want it, will be up for it, hoping for a good match, with Carlitos to take the gold.
