Olympic were not a big title (and really isn't, it's a minor 4 years span event, introduced in tennis a few decades ago) but they needed to add something Novak doesn't have, so they added Olympic.

Sorry Mainad, I am hard core Novak's fan, but I was always saying OG are no important in tennis, so I just continue to say so.
I know you are a great Murray and tennis fan, I love Murray a lot, he is a great, great tennis player and great human been, but not because he has 2 OG medals, he just doesn't need those to be ATG.
Off course, Olympic medal is great for a player and his country, but not as great tennis achievement.

On topic, can you contra argument image I posted where OG wasn't big title till 6 years or so?
I mean, they can put Laver cup next time in that table, lol...

But why do you need to dismiss the Olympics when it clearly meant so much to Djokovic and the other past champions? Of course he didn't need them to make him the GOAT as that was already established but still it rounded out his career nicely and meant he had nothing left to win. That is the significance of it for him and the fact that he won gold for Serbia of course. I think some on here just fail to see that and are far too Slam obsessed to the exclusion of everything else.

Not to some of us though, we did see that Djokovic was moving well and that on Sunday, he'd be willing to martyr himself should it be needed for the gold.

On an aside, dismissing Novak yesterday is not too dissimilar to Federer detractors discounting his win over Pete because prior to that match, his season was poor.

Who cares? Individual matches happen for a reason and its level on that day that counts.

Hypothetically, 2015 Djoker should have had the CYCG, but a real match was played at the FO and it didn't happen that way. Matches are played and levels may vary from match to match.

Very well said. very few including me gave Novak no chance yday…but that’s why matches need to be played and results earned.

And for the future champions as well. Alcaraz said he would take the Gold over Wimbledon or Roland Garros.

Look at my initial post. I just wanted to say, and this is a fact, that Olympic was introduced as big title only few years ago, which is just laughable... My opinion and I'm sure in it, reason was because they needed some zero next to Novak's name. But Novak spoiled that travesty winning OG, lol...

Off course that's the reason, you are here, and you know how much it was exploited on forum against Novak, in media generally and tennis commentators on TV.... You can call it paranoia or think about it. Look at timeline, it happened exactly when Novak overcame Rafa and Roger in big titles. Today Olympics are not big title, tomorrow they are, lol...

But, even if I am crazy the fact is that in time when Murray won his two golds, and Nadal won his, OG gold wasn't big title ;)
One morning, they woke up and realized they have more big titles than the evening before. Isn't that laughable?
Maybe Nadal will be weak up some morning and see that he is GOAT because Barcelona is now a slam, retroactively, lol...

The Olympics were added so Nadal's zero Tour Finals titles wouldn't look so out of place

But it is a fairly recent addition by the ATP

It's ****ing hilarious Novak basically went on the rampant run against scrubs Federer did at the beginning of his career at the end of his career.

As I have said before, this guy would struggle to win even one grand slam title, if he had to compete in a legitimately strong era. I wonder how many slams Nadal would have won, if Djokovic, Federer, and Murray never came around. And he never faced anyone tougher than Roddick. Something tells...

Where would we be without your thread? We were all out there thinking Alcaraz was amazing with 4 slams at 21, but you reminded us that's he's a trash player. OK, got it.

Reminded everyone he is no farm animal and never will be. He is the shepherd and no more. Kind of funny that saying Carlos is not big3 material is some kind of appalling statement.

Why do you as a Fedfan feel threatened by Alcaraz? Alcaraz is a complete validation of the way Federer played tennis being the acme of playing tennis.

I love Carlos. Very excited to watch his career. Makes me excited to watch tennis again.

That said he is not near their level. What the big3 did is not something that happens every generation. People can predict all they want, but I am an earn it first guy.

Convo of greatest ever or even big3 level should only start once he passes sampras.

Till then enjoy his tennis and how great he is for the tour.

You can see the talent in the way he plays and the shots he creates. I agree you do not say he is equal to them in total career but the trajectory is unmistakable. That said I agree the mindset of joyously watching how he plays rather than worrying about legacy arguments can be healthy.

Man, he is better than they were at his age if achievements are the gauge. That is a verifiable fact. The rest will be what it will. Not sure who said Carlitos is 'the greatest ever' but they are wrong on the facts. Pundits say he is an atg in the making - seems a reasonable assessment on current evidence. But yah man, Carlitos lights up the tour for me too. No question.

He is 21…at that age RF was not even known. RF became the phenom due to that 03-08 period, there’s no reason to believe Raz can’t go on a tear. No one even is close right now and only an inspired Novak can hang with him right now.

Fed was not unknown at 21 lol. He beat Sampras at age 19 on Centre Court.

But yes, he is great for his age. Does not mean he will catch Sampras, let alone the big3.

It's hard to say that so soon, I mean no one outside his family would ever have predicted Novak would be in GOAT contention one day when he was only 21. Same for Federer and Nadal in fact. I'm happy to just let it all play out and let the chips fall where they may. Most of the big 3 records will fall one day anyway, whether it's Alcaraz or someone later
