This is a huge match for Robredo. If he wins then he would have an excellent shot to qualify for Shanghai. If he wins, even if he were to lose in the semis then:

1)Haas would have to beat Youzhny and Nadal back-to-back (unlikely from my standpoint) to have a chance. Then it would probably come down to the Haas-Robredo semi to determine it.

2)Murray or Gasquet or Berdych or Blake would have to reach the final to bump Robredo even if he lost in the semis.

3)Youzhny would have to win the whole title to bump Robredo even if he lost in the semis.

I voted Baghdatis in 2 sets. I think Robredo will give alot of effort to win a match, since unlike players like Djokovic, Federer, Davydenko, he is trying to qualify for Shanghai and not virtually gauranteed to end the year ranked in such and such a place. However I think Baghdatis's shotmaking will be too much for him in the end.

You seem a little bitter about certain gauranteed rankings. ;)

Why is that if you don't mind me asking?

I was hoping Nadal would end the year #1 and I think he got unlucky with being injured alot, but whatever. It is life.

More what I was saying though is I find the players not in set spots are the ones most likely to really push their efforts here in Paris, the ones that have something to play for. Guys fighing for a spot in Shanghai, fighting for a year end ranking, that sort of thing.

^^^^
I agree with your statement about the guys that have something to play for, as a fan you get to see their true effort, talent and mental toughness. Rather than hear these bunch of excuses, but such is life.

You know what I just realized, with this elbow "problem" with Davydenko that there might be an extra place at the table in China. Meaning that the alternate will ineed get to play this year.

I heard Roddick is also thinking about not going in order to be 100% ready for the Davis Cup final...

anyway, don't wanna hijack the thread.

Baghdatis is up 4-2, he seems to be holding serve quite easily, is this the case? (I'm just following the Live Scores)

Baggy's been "on" recently...but still think Tommy will pull it out in 3...I'm watching live scroes too so really have no sense of what's happening:confused:

I am soooooooo over this game of tennis...

Baghdatis just took the set 6-4, after being down 2 break points.

Alright, Robredo settle down and take the next 2 sets.

First set to Baghdatis 6-4... looks like he is backing up his serve quite well, winnning 75% of points behind the second serve.

Robredo shoudln't go to Shanghai... he has very little to offer in terms of personality and game. He can't trouble any of the big guys, we want someone exciting like Murray who can test and maybe beat one of the big 3.

Anyway, looks like baghdatis is gonna take this one.

He had better hope that Youzhny upsets Nadal for that to have any chance as well. Nadal has Baggy's number.

Yeah he played some of his best matches against rafa and didn't manage to beat him. On the other hand he beat youzhny this year in Marseille (Hard courts too) but it was very close

I would love to see a Nalbandian vs. Baghdatis final. These too have some sort of magic going this week. Both have similar playing styles as well as having a reinforced serve.
