Peak Federer...Give me a break

Peak Federer is overrated, never had a dominant h2h against Nadal at his best seasons unlike Djokovic who dominated Rafa 6-0 and Federer 4-1 in 2011. How some can say that peak Federer is better than peak Djokovic is just ridiculous.

Federer's h2h against Nadal:
2004: 0-1
2005: 1-1
2006: 2-4
2007: 3-2

Djokovic wouldn't have a leading H2H with peak Nadal either..

Note: Djokovic has beaten up on past his prime Nadal mainly.. Same goes for Federer... stop talking him up.

And mentioning his H2H with Grandpa Federer in 2011 and comparing it to a hypothetical H2H if they met in 2004 or 2005.

I guess it is based on the idea that far from peak Federer had very close matches in 2 GSs that year against GOD level (i.e. never seen since) Novak winning at FO and having 2 match points in USO.

So your actual numbers do nothing to disprove someone's opinion that peak Fed was better than peak Novak.

OP.

You are free to think whatever you want.

As one of the biggest Nadal fans on these boards I have the same sentiments for my fellow VB colleagues.

Sure, because your level of play and consistency is measured only by H2H vs Nadal

You're so hurt by the truth that go into inventing imaginary comedy stuff that 24-25 yo Nadal wasn't better than the one Fed played in 04-07 considering that in 2011 Nadal has made 3 Slams final and 5 Masters final:lol::lol::lol:

op is one of the misguided folk that is obsessed with h2h..

tennis is about winning tournaments..not about winning/losing against one player.

7 (6-1 in favour of nadal)
other courts:
7 (5-2 in favour of federer)

don't see that much of a problem.

The problem is that Djokovic was 2-0 against Nadal on clay in 2011,it's another reason that proves that Djokovic's 2011 level is higher that Fed's level in 04-07.

Such pointless stats....as mentioned by another poster, many of Nadal's wins would likely have come on clay & we know he is near unbeatable on that surface.

When Nadal retires he, like Fed, will be remembered as an all time great & certainly the most dominant clay court player to date. H2H in tennis is I believe largely irrelevant, if all tennis tournaments were played in a round robin format then H2H might hold more weight....unfortunately for those who keep spruiking H2H stats they are not. Tournament's won, consistency & longevity in the game is a far more accurate indicator of ones greatness. Statistics that both Fed & Nadal prove superior to most others in.

If Federer during his prime wasn't able to dominate Nadal then why his prime should be rated higher than Djokovic's? OK, Fed was great at beating Hewitt, Roddick and Baghdatis at Slams, but why only because of that we should consider his prime greater than Djokovic's 2011 who dominated Nadal, Federer and Murray?

Who cares. Say Peak Federer meets peak Djokovic, before we knew it was their peak yet. If one always won, how would we know the other was at their peak. If they split, how do we know either one was at their peak.

But hey, I'll play along, you're right, Federer sucks, he was given all those titles and money, so was Nadal, and Djokovic. Murray was charity case that was given his GS titles. and the like of Del Potro was handed a US Open title, to break the facade of WWE that it tennis.

He wasn't better than 2008 Nadal, he was worse.. That's "peak" Nadal, Djokovic would have failed against him too, oh, and against teenage/young Nadal from 2005-2007 at Roland Garros too, oh, and at Wimbledon.. At the US Open he'd be beaten by the likes of Roddick and Hewitt.. that's the truth for ya.

Because if you swap Djokovic for Federer in 2004-2007, he would lose to Hewitt and Roddick a heck of a lot more than Federer did.. especially at the USO and Wimbledon.

Because Djokovic has been beating up late 20s Nadal, Federer had to deal with young fresh Nadal who didn't take off half the season. Stop overrating Djokovic, he isn't that good.

We aren't talking about Nadal in 2008, we're comparing Nadal during Fed's prime years(04-07) to Nadal during 2011. You has made yourself look funny with claiming that Fed during his prime faced stronger Nadal than Djokovic in 2011, despite the facts say otherwise.

Another hypothetical scenarios that has no value, the reality is that Djokovic since his prime has never lost to Hewitt and Roddick.

Then why he is 6-6 against Fed at Slams? Never mind, you will come up with age excuse:lol:

Past his prime Hewitt took Djokovic to the cleaners the year before he faced Federer in that fateful USO final.

Most of the matches did come after his prime, yes. Not the same story for Nadal who actually competed against prime Federer.

If Hewitt was able to get 6 games then Djokovic would have won at least 20 games in the worst case scenario.

No way Djokovic wins more than 9 or 10 games, tops. You're incredibly delusional to think he'd take 20.

On clay, the facts suggest that Rafa was stronger in 2005-2008 than 2011-2014. He had an unbelievable winning streak of matches on clay, 81 and that shows how ridiculously good he was on clay. Roger took that Rafa to match point in Rome 2006. Djokovic couldn't come close to match point not even against a Rafa that lost matches, not sets, to Ferrer, Almagro etc  For perspective, the same Almagro was barely winning games against peak Rafa.

LOL.

prior to wimbledon 2014.

djokovic had lost a bunch of gs finals...so much that he admitted he had mental toughness issues because of losing so many big matches to his peers. that was why he brought becker on.

All this happening in his prime.

FYI, OP is a RNadal fan not NDjokovic.

Remember Fed_Djoker_fan?

Typical brainless troll post. Let me know when Djokovic wins 10 more slams then we'll talk more. Until then bye bye for now with this thread..

you were going on about h2h. thats not the goal of tennis..the goal is to win the tournament.

Djokovic needs 11 or more slams to be in the conversation.

As a matter of fact, he needs 14 slams since there are already THREE players who won 14 or more slams.

Losing to a 30yo past prime grandpa on his worst surface, if that's your highest peak then ok...

7-7 in slam finals is not great, but not very poor either. Anyway: again, it's not relevant to peak level of play.

It is relevant to peak level of play where it matters the most, slam finals.

14-4 in slam finals, wow impressive that Pete.

17-8 in slam finals, wow amazing that Roger.

14-6 in slam finals, good, no?

11-5 in slam finals, Borg was a beast.

Peak Fed looked so "great at his peak" because of a non existent field at the time outside of just out of 12th grade Nadal and Sampras Era holdover brokeback Agassi (Who was taking Fed to 4-5 sets) with a bad back at the USO.

His true contemporaries were absolute clowns with little talent (See Roddick) or guys with a lot of talent but not interested in tennis at all (Safin, Nalbandian)

The same non-existent field that had journeymen from 2004-2007 filling up the top 10 in 2011.

Just look at the yearly stats for Fed's prime years, simple.
Compare those stats to either Nadal's or Djokovic's best years.

With the weak ERA, not sure about that.
Players get hot and make it to the later stages of tournaments, it isn't evident by career numbers because it's just a short period of time.

Take clay away and Federer leads.

But, if you don't want to take clay away, Federer owned peak Djokovic at RG.
