People just jump on the bandwagon of whichever way the momentum is going in the tennis world

A little over 12 months ago, everyone was saying "Novak can reach 20 slams, Novak can overtake Federer, Novak greatest ever, Novak can dominate for the next 5 years, Novak CYGS, Djokovic-Murray new rivalry in mens tennis etc."

At the same time, they were saying "Nadal finished, Nadal's career is over, Federer will never win another slam, Nadal will never win another slam, Nadal will never win another French Open, Nadal should retire, Federer should retire, Federer should have retired after Wimbledon 2012 etc."

Now 12 months later, the talk is the opposite: "Novak finished, Novak will never win another slam, Novak will never reach another slam final, Novak should retire, Murray career over, Murray will never win another slam etc."

The reality is that players hit peaks and troughs of form. These guys are just so far above the rest of the field, it'd be crazy to think that one or more of them couldn't win another slam again. Novak is injured and going through personal problems at this point in time, but he will be back. Just like Nadal and Federer came back.

Why is everyone so quick to jump on whichever way the momentum is currently going in the tennis world?

Because some people like to seek affirmation through a winning person rather than enjoying a specific playing style. It's kind of like how everyone in Canada all of a sudden became a Blue Jays fan when they were doing well. Some people just need to be rooting for the winning team/person.

Just because Fed did does not mean Novak will also do it.

Rafa's comeback is not really like Fed's. He is ALWAYS a threat on clay, because he is so far and away the best on the surface. He will continue to be a threat there and for the most part only there.

What is worrying about Novak is his mental state, family issues and now the shoulder issue. He could win a major or two if he puts his act together but he missed his chance to go into tier 1 of the sport.

Cant remember anyone with half a brain thinking Novak "dealing with cheating wife" Djokovic or Andy "not really Big 4" Murray would win that much

Pathetic if there was someone that thought that

People are just going by what they see. For the past year plus, Djoker has given no one a reason to think differently. Plus, now he's injured. When Nadal was injured and playing like crap, people were just going by what they saw. He came back, however, and proved otherwise. Likewise, Djoker has to come back and prove it. Until he does, it is what it is.

For the commentators, all they want to do is ride the hot story/player. They also like to be overly dramatic cos it helps suck in the average viewers and cultivate a new generation of casual fans of the sport.

For fans, at least for "fans" on TTW, they take the normal level of hype that commentators use and jack it up on steroids. Here, every victory is a victory for the ages, and every loss is the end of a career. It's as ridiculous as it is expected. Because these cultists are engaged in a public relations battle that never ends, between the idol they slavishly adore and the idols they irrationally despise.

A sane person ignores (or sees through) all of it. A sane person doesn't jump on and off bandwagons, or babbles on about weak era/weaker era. A sane person doesn't denigrate every pro who has a bad match and call him a "mug." Nor does he try to denigrate achievements by finding faults, claiming titles are "tainted", complaining about "rigged/fixed" draws or court assignments or woulda/coulda/shouldas.

But sane people are in the minority here.
