Percept 97D vs VCORE 95

I'm looking to switch things up and try something different. Currently using a Shift 99 Pro. I have a one-handed backhand. I'm trying to decide between these two rackets. Please share your experiences. Which would you pick?

Played quite extensively with the Vcore 95 and the Vcore pro 97D (now the percept 97D). I also have a 1hbh and all court game. I guess it just depends on what you want out of the frame and what you feel like the Shift pro is lacking?? I would pick the 97D between the two for myself and my game. Happy to field questions about either of them

Why do you like the 97D better? I don't feel like the Shift is lacking anything in particular. I'm just looking to switch things up and try something new. Obviously I want more power, more spin, and more control all at the same time. But I understand it's a balance. If these were video game progress bars I'd say I'm at about 50% on all three with the Shift Pro and my current string preference (k-pop @ 54).

My playing style preference is to aggressively baseline.

I like low powered and more control oriented rackets which is why the 97D was better for me. I like to create the power and speed myself. I also used the Vcore Pro 97 310 (Percept 97) for awhile as well. That would be a nice frame to look at for it sort of fits into what you're describing. The reason I moved away from 97D was purely wanted more spin

Power high to low: vc95 then vcp97 then vcp97d
Control high to low: 97D then 97 then 95
Spin high to low: 97 then 95 then 97D

I know the 95 on paper should have more control but for me it didn't. It's my least favorite 95 that I own

Order by favorite: 97 then 97D then 95

I'm more of an all-courter like @ChaseS. , but used the HD for 2 years and the 97D for 1, used the VC95 18 and 20 for 2 years.

I would carefully consider, even if you are at first against it, demoing a Vcore 98 and Ezone 98, or a Pure Aero 98, if you are so inclined I guess the new darling is the Technifibre 305s, that too. If you are really an aggressive baseliner, any of these rackets will be "easier" and "better" in almost a match winning way than the VC95 and D. These rackets will give you enough control and boost your power and spin more, they might even be more fun for you to aggressive baseline with.

That is well said. Thats why i was nudging gently towards the Percept 97.

The new Solinco Whiteout v2 also very powerful and spinny. If you want a fun 95" option that feels great with Ohbh then the Prince ATS Tour 95 is a lot of fun. Plays more like a 98 and has wicked spin potential

I owned both the ‘21 and ‘23 VC95 and played you l for a year with the VCP 97D. The 95s were great in terms of precision and control but lacked power for me and were too demanding when it came to requiring clean sweet sport ball striking. I actually felt like the VCP97D had more power than either of the 95s in stock form form due to the higher swingweight. Maybe a weighted up 95 would have been better.

I landed on the ‘22 Ezone 98, which is a very different stick but takes a little off what I liked about both the 95 (ohbh, maneuverability) and 97D (even though it’s a 16x19 the center of the EZ is just as dense as the 97D). The ‘24 EZ98 is even better in stock form. It’s definitely worth a try. That and the 100D, which is lower powered than the EZ98 but a little more accessible than the. 97D

** Update **

So I went ahead and impulse bought the 97D.

My forehand feels good. I feel like I can place the ball on a dime. But I'm not feeling that with essentially every other shot -- slice, OHBH, volleys, returns... Also my forehand isn't as heavy.

I recently played with a friend, and he beat me 6-2 in the first set while I was using the 97D. Then I switched to the Shift Pro and I won the second set 6-1. It wasn't a fluke. I just play better with the Shift Pro, at least currently. I've been chalking it up to just not having enough reps with the racket and adjusting to the lower launch angle. But I'm not sure.

Then today I tried out a friend's 2025 Ezone 98. And wow. Feels amazing. I think it even feels better for me than the Shift Pro. I might need to make another impulse purchase. Shoutout to all three of you for nudging me in that direction. I think y'all are right.

You are sort of describing my experience here. The D is a wonderful frame and allows you to pinpoint place balls all over the court. My problem was spin or heaviness on the forehand/bh. My forehand just wasn't a weapon enough with it. I actually liked the racket in some of the other departments, especially the slice. The D can knife a slice with the best of them.

The percept 97 could be a great middle ground for you or just impulse buy that Ezone 98!!! Lol

Well, I made the second impulse purchase. I went with the Ezone 98 Tour. I added a Fairway leather grip, another ~10 grams in the handle, and strung it with K-pop at 56/54. Way better than the 97D for my game. I even like it better than the Shift 99 Pro

This racket is the GOAT

Way to go man! Would love to know the weight and balance that thing has to be sort of beefy.
Thanks man. It's definitely got some beef. But I eat keto. I love beef!

It's 357 grams strung and 8 points HL. I had the swingweight measured at 334 after I put the leather grip on but before I added the 10 grams in the handle.

It's a little beefier than my Shift Pro which was a few grams lighter and 10 points less swingweight (apparently it was under spec). So there was some adjustment but not too bad.
