Interesting that he doesn't mention Fed at all. No love lost between the two, we all knew that but I honestly didn't expect this, thought he'd say Fed's serve atleast..

Looks like a Davis Cup promotional type video, and Federer wasn’t playing Davis Cup. Makes sense that he wasn’t included. Shouldn’t read into it too much, especially when he picks Goffin for best backhand. Looks more like a PR exercise to me.

He picked Monfils for physical condition. How many times have we seen Monfils practically collapsed after long points.

Monfils tops for athleticism, bottoms for physical condition!

I don't agree with most of what Djokovic said here. BH, Goffin? LOL that's a good one, not sure why he didn't mention himself. No one on tour comes close to his own BH. Not one mention of Federer, IMO loses credibility.

Thiem does IMO. If all one-handed backhands were so effective as Thiem's one, then having a two-handed backhand would never be considered an advantage. I have never seen a better one-handed backhand than Thiem's one. Federer is rightfully credited as having a fantastic slice, while Wawrinka is usually credited as having the best offensive flat backhand. Thiem combines both aspects perfectly, he can slice effectively when necessary and hit flat backhand winners with regularity.

Novak did not mention Federer because he was refering to players that participated in the Davis Cup 2019. Federer did not participate there.

Even if Fed was an option, idk if I'd choose him for any of those categories if I was building a player in 2020 either. His FH isn't half of what it used to be, so I'd take Nadal's these days too. His serve is great but it's not better than the servebots out there. Maybe I'd take him for volleys.

Fed's still the best at a bunch of secondary shots like slice, half volleys or backhand smashes. But in terms of typical groundstrokes, serves and returns, he's not at the top of the list anymore.

I think he understood physical abilities, not fitness. But I agree with what you wrote about Monfils.

He mentioned 3 players for footwork and none of them are Federer

Also Gofin for backhand, hmm, it's a good shot but Nishikori, Gasquet, Wawrinka, Murray, Djokovic himself... are all better.

Yeah true.

you wouldn’t have nadal for Fh either anymore unless it’s specifically clay. Thiem takes that one for me.

If you could guarantee I'm getting Thiem on a good day, then sure. But he's way too inconsistent. And if we're breaking it down by surface, it's useless on grass.

Base level I'm still taking Nadal. Even on an off-day his topspin is too much for most guys to handle on all surfaces.

Didn't mention Thiem, Medvedev or Tsisipas; but mentioned FAA twice! So maybe FAA could really be the next big thing!

Yeah think I’m being harsh because Nadal’s FH isn’t very useless off clay against fed and Djokovic. Against most useless nextgen they can’t handle it you’re right.
