Agassi was No 3 in 1988, he matured as a player once he started pairing up with Brad Gilbert. Losing to Gomzez at French was considered a choke. He just matured as a balanced player very late in his career. If not for ups and downs in his career, taking crystal meth, failed relationship with brooke shields and just focused on slam count he could have won 12-14 slams.
True, but Agassi had a notably poor record against top players in 1988, apart from beating Connors at the US Open. Agassi was higher ranked than Connors at the time of the 1988 US Open, though.
I personally don't understand why Agassi was favoured over Gomez in the 1990 French Open final. Gomez was a battle hardened veteran in very good form, and didn't have his nemesis Lendl in the way this time.
Agassi didn't like the constant pressure of expectation, and expressed to often hating tennis. And when he did seriously dedicate, think 1994-1995, he got seriously burned in the 1995 US Open final.
Good points , but I felt at the least he could have won 11-12 majors if he didn’t skip Australian open 10 times and a couple of French more.

The fact that Agassi took Wilander to five sets in 1988 at the French Open -- a surface that favors Wilander's game -- makes me think Agassi would have had a solid shot against Wilander had Agassi played the Australian Open in 1988 on Rebound Ace -- a surface that favors Agassi's game.
