The likes are very biased towards supporting that player. In my honest opinion, but thats just the truth.
Yes, and it makes things lopsided not to mention, heavily biased. If we did a research and dig some of the most liked posters, what are the chances of most of them being the fans of the same player? I think it was Sureshs who said that it's for the groupies. And for the ones who want to be liked very much.

For example, the recent discussion that some of us had on the Sampras/Nadal thread which eventually got deleted, I have no doubt the other posts by the posters of the same player would have gotten many likes while others, even if you had made valid points, would have remained likeless. It's a completely and utterly biased tool that supports certain agendas.

When posters talk about excuses, we all know full well, no fanbase is above it.

Despite all that, there are some genuine effort no doubt but those are a few and an exception to the general notion around here.

Good that it's gone. To get likes here all you need to do is lick the most popular players ass and you are good to go. Stroke your own ego.
This is just complete BS. Many people with a high like ratio have that because they are fair, funny, not an a-hole and generally respectful. Fed is by far the most popular player and many Fed fans here have a modest amount of likes. There's utterly no correlation between "licking players asses" and having many likes. One way to blow away this "theory" (heavy quotations) is that Murray is reviled around here, yet one of his greatest fans, Mainad, is liked by everyone. Djokovic isn't especially popular, yet his fan, Hitman, is beloved.

Most of the people against bringing back the like button have a lousy ratio of likes to posting. Instead of upping their game and contributing something worthwhile, they invent "theories" about those who have many likes.

Yes, the most liked posters have the highest quality of posts.

And those who have the opposite are the least likable people with least amount of likes.

It is most certainly as black and white as that.

(y) And don't forget there are many posters in Strings & Stringing (and other non-GPP forums) that receive Like for tirelessly and selflessly helping others with their experience.

Take Paranoidandroid for example. He always had twice the likes amount than his posts.

While Sureshs who I find posts much higher quality posts has one of the least likes.

Easy and simple as that. Fan wars and such does not really exist, and the ones w the most likes are always right.

This is kind of an interesting experiment. TTW oldies remember times without likes, we existed without them. Then they were introduced somewhere around mid 2015 I believe and now that theyre gone we can't live without them.

Tell me about your experience since you've lived through both here. My previous forums never had the like button and when I joined this forum, from the get go, I wasn't comfortable with it. I typically don't vote or do anything similar as it goes against my nature, and 'like' falls into the same category for me. I liked many posts and received many likes back but that's because I had to go with it.

Beatlesfan will be in big trouble....I repeat BIG TROUBLE....if they take a away the Ignore feature. And Ann will leave the planet as a result. lmho. :p

But it's not as harmful as the like button. I can see myself putting that Dolgopolov fan on ignore.

add a dislike button along with like button
I am in favour of it for two reasons: it will balance the like feature &. will expose or bring forward another side of humans, which will allow us to study human psyche further. Posts count will go down overnight of course as people are extremely afraid of being disliked but it's still worth it for research/experiment purpose.

Yes. And, it was nice to have an unobtrusive way to let them know that they were being heard and appreciated for taking their time to add positive content to the forum.

It's evident that the majority of users want likes, only an intolerant minority supports reaction suppresion.
For the ones who do not opine, as always, brave people fight for the rights of everybody and risk their lives and reputations, so others can enjoy the benefits.

People who don't want likes, just put that in your profile, a sign saying "Please don't like me". I don't have a problem with that.
Should we get them back, I promise I will never like you a post. Well. I already know most of them who they are, those selfish hearted like reactionaries.

I have a low like to post ratio and even I am in favor of bringing back the button. It is very boring without the "like" button.

It's pretty much like now but without the whining about the lack of likes. If nothing changes I bet that 2-3 more months and we're back to where we were pre 2015.

Which is tons of long battles/discussions that lasted weeks even (and also you had no alerts so you had to dig through entire threads to look for a reply), a lot less trolling (because there's no instant gratification) etc. The camps (Fed camp, Nadal camp etc.) weren't so evident, you were basically on your own in discussions. With likes I could be arguing about something with a Nadal fan and I got 4-5 likes from fellow Fed fans by default just because I'm a Fed fan basically and I like to debate hard.

Agree, I also had a low ratio, around 0.80 when likes were halted. Obviously it is going South now.
I was even following a 5-year plan to enhance my like/post ratio and compete with @Federer and Del Potro , without the need of employing a cute lovely avatar.

Only a few people fight for the rights. Majority rip the benefits. You've got it all wrong.

And it's not about one liking the poster but rather the content of the post. I don't agree with what you say there but this does not mean I don't like you. Let's understand the difference first.

It was not cute avatar. It was cute GIFs. If you would have posted cute kitty GIFs you would have got likes - ask him. His posts with kitties always got likes from me :D (or post about Poobesh)

It's you that got me wrong. I meant exactly what you said.
Edit: To put it more clearly, I mean that I am sure that the ones voting Yes here are a low percentage regarding the total who want likes back and are afraid to express it because of fear of mods retaliation.

And it's not about one liking the poster but rather the content of the post. I don't agree with what you say there but this does not mean I don't like you. Let's understand the difference first.
I totally understand the difference. Anyway I want you and everybody to both like me and my posts, because as you already know, I am childish and narcissistic.

Thanks for the advice. I will consider it if us likeaholics win this battle, and don't get banned in the process.

This is 86 perfect for bringing it back TTW give the people what they want. The amount of things I’ve wanted to like over the last week is ridiculous

Okay, I see how miserable and hopeless you are without it. And so I made my wish. Because I'd rather see you happy and prosper than like this. You will need to be patient however.

There is definitely a connection between being in favour of the most popular player and getting many likes. I've seen through the years how it has been used and it isn't pretty. That's the plain truth and as Zara said it becomes lopsided. It's a worthless function here.

If you want my opinion generally on the whole like function, I think it isn't needed. People are so insecure they need likes to boast their egos. There is probably a reason the admins of this place chose to toss it. People are upset that they now can't post without someone stroking their ego and spamming like.

Lmho!

As to the 2nd bolded, it is even worse when you have a bigger fanbase. The Feds are bigger than the rest combined and they get away with a lot of abuse they give to others. I've read posts from Feds where they called us Samprastards, insufferable Sampras fans, Sampras fanboys/girls and that we are like Nadal fans with excuses etc. (as if Feds are above it with their mono, Fed played crap otherwise, age stuff etc.) and even yesterday, another Fed fan said something ugly about Sampras fans. I chose to ignore it. You can get away with this sort of venom only when you are a part of a much bigger fanbase and as a result, the minorities are always threatened. This is wrong on every level. It's a shame that 30 years+ people are getting away with this sort of behaviour.

You'd think winning a lot would make the base at least a bit more generous than this but that's an illusion. It's not surprising that Murray fans, in general, are the most humble ones because they don't have much to brag about. It keeps their feet on the ground.

I don't really care about people's like 'rating' or getting likes... rather bring by likes so people can silently communicate without polluting the boards! It's a simple action that keeps the flow and structure to the boards... Hey @TW Staff ? Any other mods want to weigh in, maybe ones that disagree with the change?

This. Unpolluted ecofriendly forums.
Likes should definitely be used to prevent posts like this one of mine, where a like would’ve sufficed.

But I enjoyed reading your post. Gave me some sort of insight as to how you really feel. A simple like doesn't say much as to what context you liked the post in the first place.

Perhaps the Mods will consider and bring it back in such a way where it won’t be such a hassle for them to keep it. And will make posters like you very happy.
