Pickleball eating into the Tennis Channel broadcasting

The one time I tuned in and pickleball was on was also the first time I'd seen anyone playing pickleball. The only thing I noticed is that the women all looked like Eastern European models. Not a bad first impression.

I blame Djokovic and Nadal for this. Without an icon like Roger propelling our sport forward, the game seems to have lost some of its magic. People will naturally drift to an "easier to pick up" sport to get their fix

I find it funny how tennis people rant against pickelball.
It's an easy sport for people who aren't coordinated or athletic enough to play tennis. And that speaks volumes if you've ever been to a local public park tennis court and seen some of the out of shape tubs of lard out there on the courts.

I guess an argument could be made that it's more accessible/easier than tennis so it may encourage people who might otherwise be couch potatoes to get out and move a little. I can also see the social aspect of it. And yes, I also know that there is a pro pickleball tour with players who are in good shape but not surprisingly, many of those are former tennis players who weren't good enough to do much in tennis.

Oh, and the sound the ball makes when hitting the paddle is annoying.

Judging by the pictures, the professional tournaments might have more fans in the seats than IW the past few days.

Is pickle all a US ting or worldwide? In the states, tennis isn’t as popular as kids are playing team sports more than single events. I mean regionally in the US is popular, but I am seeing more and more tennis courts used for pickleball than tennis.

Probably tennis channel doesn’t have enough subscribers. Adding pickled balls might be away to make more money.

Anyone else annoyed that Pickleball is now also eating into the Tennis Channel broadcasting? It's literally called The "Tennis" Channel!

What a disgrace to the tennis channel! I wish they play in bikinis... at least something interesting. What next the tennis channel will show: bags throwing? I have a strong and trained heart, but when I saw this disgrace I felt something not right inside of my chest... I feel sorry for these people - I see'em in McDonalds too... I'll show up on the court with my cheese cutting board next time and tell'em it's great for playing in the "kitchen", or bring my table tennis paddle - working on my sweet spot hitting accuracy. Well, the game is the product of COVID - the ball lost its felt and developed holes, some people lost their mind and started drawing lines everywhere, and become deaf. So sad.

More volleying in a pickleball match than in the past 20 years of the tour though. You can only watch 6'3 and up generic baseline bashers with 2 handed backhands for so long until it loses its appeal.

I tried once again to watch some pickleball, had to switch over to the paint drying channel for some excitement.

stand back, serve, run forward two steps, stand with shoulders parallel to the net, do not move your feet or body otherwise, bat a wiffleball back and forth slowly until somebody misses out of sheer boredom.

A couple of weeks ago, I switched over to Tennis Channel and saw they were showing Beach Volleyball. "The Atlanta Open"

They're moving in a direction where they'll be willing to put on any sport that involves a net.

I have yet to watch a single Pickeball clip. And I'm not YouTubing it. Is there for real a pro circuit now?

it is pretty sad... considering how annoying most tennis players new about these paddle people playing on our courts all over the place.. it is a vert different sport. deserves its own courts and tv coverage elsewhere. i guess

…they call it a pro league, yes…looks like anyone who’s played the game longer than 3 weeks is welcomed.

Do you remember Slam Ball or whatever with the trampoline basketball 3 on 3? We had 2 guys from my college make roster while they didn't make any varsity. Fit guys but yeah...
