Could this be the first competative women's match at the Open?? I hope so, cos I just had to sit through 45 minutes of inane chatter on USA!

Pierce in great shape: lost weight since RG.
just broke for 20.

JHH has been forced to use cortison since Wimbledon.
this is not good.
this is what AA is taking at 35:[

I feel bad for Justine - such a great talent combined with a greater mental resolve and she is suffering from injuries. I did not know she has to take cortisone :(

I want her to win.

Justine lookin' pretty shaky - which is saying a lot when the person on the other side of the net is Miss Mary "Shaky" Pierce!! (gulp)

wow 2 doubles in this game...man has her play been erratic all summer

hopefully justine gets her act together soon in this match

Its obvious Justine isnt at 100%. When she on her backhand and forehand are the best in the business.

This isn't PC but tennis is demonstrating women bodies break down quicker than men. They women start playing too many tournaments in their mid-teens. When they hit 22-23 in some cases they're shot.

The tough workout regime Justine went through a couple of years back put her on the self for 12 months.

That's too bad, she's good for the game.

The double faults are killing her. She's been doing that a lot this summer and against a streaky player like Pierce thats dangerous.

teedub

In the last couple of years, Justine's been having a high number of double faults because she goes for a 'big' second serve, but her double fault problem has been at its worst this summer.

she better not get freakin bageled here!

If Pierce chokes on her next serve game...Then she doesn't deserve to win and probably won't. 5-2 Pierce.

Did anyone else hear the commentators talk about how if Justine overworks or overtrains, here virus could come back? Man, that sounds a lot more serious than I had heard previously. She isn't my favorite player, but I respect her enormously. She just looks...tired to me. Maybe that will change later in the match...she's a player you can never, ever count out until you hear 'game, set, match'.

wonder where roberto alomar is? dont think i'vs ever seen him at any of mary's matches. maybe they have strict rules on spitting at the wta events.

justine showing her versatility.

Well, Mary pulled out the first set, but Justine is coming back already. We may have a match here!

oh man it really looked like it when she was down break point at 5-3, when they did a close up on Pierce, you could see it in her eyes that she was extremely nervous. but good job to her for closing it out, now hopefully we'll see a third...

i think henin loses, and justine henin hardenne should never wear anything that looks remotely like pink EVER again.

*sigh* Can't just talk about the women's game can we...without mentioning what they are wearing? And it is red, by the way, not pink. And she looks f*cking great.

Well, except that now she is stretching out her hams...won't be good if her injury flares up.

Looks like Mary Pierce wants to avenge her French open final beating.
Well, this win won't erase that SMACKDOWN, but she looks totally in control. Mind you, Pierce always finds a way to lose (or almost lose) a match that looks in the bag. But Justine doesn't look like her old self. She needs a vay-cay (tion).

Breaker

I'm calling the choke, you heard it here first. When Pierce serves for the match a break, confidence loss and then a blowout in the 3rd set with Pierce crying on her way off the court. 7-5, 6-2 ending for Henin.

Alright Breaker . . . Pierce pissed a couple of match points away. Is this the first part of your prediction coming true??

Well, it's all over. Not the best match. Thought it would be more competitive. But it wasn't as bad as some of the others.

That just leaves what, seven matches for the women to redeem themselves. This Open has been almost dire, in terms of quality of play and "entertainment" value.

Curses! I was for Justine. Oh well, you cant win the all. Big win for Pierce, she deserved it.

Justine, take the remainer of the year off and get some rest. Tennis need you at 100%.

Unfortunately that is what people are led to believe who have not attended some other women's matches these past few days. Dementieva/chakvetadze, Mauresmo/groenefeld, petrova/vaidisova were absolutely first rate high quality matches which were not televised. I enjoyed them so much and were much much better than some of the top men's matches.

Danny, so was I. There were some flashes of good play - but a lot of unforced errors from JHH. Her 2nd serve should be on a milk carton - it's missing.

Davenport looks like a sure thing to make the Final.

Well, I guess I'm a victim of CBS and USA's coverage. They ain't exactly my favorites. The only way they show a thrilling match (involving non-Americans) is if they happen to trip over it (and there's ABSOLUTELY nothing to talk about, no Dick Enberg montages, no Roddick/Agassi/Williams footage from the night before, or pre or post-match interviews to conduct).

Quality tennis . . . rest in peace.
