Piotr Wozniacki lashes out at his and daughter Caroline’s critics for saying she should consider hiring a new coach.

Piotr was not at the tournament in Bastad, Sweden, where Caroline retired in the second round with an injury.

"I hope that all the Danish experts are pleased that the father is no longer with her daughter, says Piotr told Ekstra Bladet. "There has been a lot of focus on me, so I hope the experts are satisfied that I was not in Bastad.”

Caroline has also responed to this:

"I know there are many who criticize me and who want, among other things, that I need to change coaches. It is a period when I walk around and think about what will happen in the future. The period I have to go through now is not easy. That is why I will take my precautions about how I must make myself ready for the challenges ahead…I am sorry to have disappointed my fans with a defeat, but I will get strong again and will do anything to get even better."

I'd like to hear peoples thoughts on this. Does she need a new coach? Has she had too much pressure/critique placed upon her. Can she change her game (does she really need to)? etc.

To be honest I don't think getting a new coach would hurt. Her father has done an excellent job to get her where she is but Caroline hasn't been showing much improvement as of late. She's playing a bit better in smaller tournaments this year than last year but she's still having issues getting over the hump in the larger ones. I'm not saying dump her father either, but maybe getting an additional coach to work on some game strategies could do her some good. With all due respect to the WTA their is not some hugely dominant great player that has been stopping her, she's been losing matches that she should be winning and blowing opportunites on the large stage. If a player is on a hot streak in a large tournament it is almost a guarantee Woz will go down to her.

What's the worse that can happen out of her getting a new coach?

Sounds to me like she is taking some of the criticisms on board and is giving the idea of a new coach serious consideration.Would be a good move for her IMO.

No doubt she and her dad have been following the discussions about her here on TW avidly!!

Tough decision for Caroline but the problem is that she ascended to the spot of number 1 too quickly in her career, making her vulnerable to this criticsm. It would have been better for her career if she actually won a slam first then got to number 1 later on. But of course she can't choose how its gone so far, but she can work on making some much needed improvements in future.

Everyone talking about Petra Kvitova and her aggressive game will not have helped Caroline either, considering her game so lacks aggression.

I think she should keep her dad, and pick up another coach also. Martina maybe? Look how far she has came with her dads help, obviously the man isn't a hinderance, but she may also need a fresh perspective added to the mix.

As for reaching #1 before achieving a slam, cest la. It does add pressure and draw criticism. Thats the way the cards unfolded though. I don't see why she can't win a slam.

Kvitova has winners in her, she plays brave tennis, that's what champions are made of.
Caroline needs to cut the family ties and get a new coach and grow up, that's what will take her to the next level, to believe in and rely upon HERSELF.
I also think they should scrap allowing coaching in the smaller tournies, it makes these players just dummies out there on court.

That's truly remarkable! The gal is light years ahead of everyone else in points, is and has been #1 in the world and she is apologizing to her fans? I am sure Marat Safin would have said something quite a bit more memorable, putting everyone out there in their place pronto under similar circumstances instead of mumbling apologies. One thing people forget is that any grand slam is just a tournament. As tough as one is - it's just one tournament still. Darn it - public opinion is such a ***** at times.

Nothing matters except winning slams. She can win hundreds of events, but no one will remember those wins unless she also wins a slam title.

She's a fake #1. Should've gone and played college tennis.

Oh and she looks the goods without a bikini. :D

She needs to stay with her dad and slowly add another coach to transition to like Sharapova did with Michael Joyce. Both she and her dad need to trust the new person. She needs to stay on the same page as her dad for stability (emotional and tennis-wise). Both she and her dad have done a terrific job achieving what few have ever done.

Stay happy, Caroline!

I'm not a fan of her game style, but it works against the field to the point that she is #1 on the planet. To say that slams matter over everything else is an instance of tunnel vision. For crying out loud, Novak plays her back board game style on man's side. Works for him - no one complains. Nadal does the same - has a lot of fans. David Ferrer does the same - has lots of fans and doesn't feel like he needs to apologize to anyone. She is certainly not a fake #1 by any means. There are lots of people out there with a slam under their belt who are not even close to #1 or her level or performance. Counting slams alone is an inferior metric to evaluating pro player performance, but I'm beginning to think that slam counting maybe so popular because most tennis playing people can only count to 30? Not sure, but some posts definitely make me think so:)

No problem. I was just wondering: If "easily catchable" equals "light years ahead", then what does "light years ahead" mean. :)

Nah, it's more like what feels like "light years" to one can feel like "easily catchable" to someone else. But even if she is easily catchable - doesn't really change what I said.

People can't seem to fathom what it takes to be the best on the planet at something. They keep inventing these extra requirements for players - "Oh, but she doesn't have a slam or this or that or whatever." It's all sitting at home sipping beer and picking their noses or whatnot. It's not entirely her fault that she is so apologetic. It's these hordes or morons demanding something extra every time that creates this low grade public opinion compelling a decent person to feel like they need to apologize for nothing less than being the best in the world at the moment.

She needs John McEnroe and Serena Williams who will turn her into a beasty monster tennis player evaaaaaaaah !!!!

I've said it many times: dump daddy. Develop an offense-based game, and above all else, get the right coach who does not think of pushing as a strategy.

Wozniacki tried to play miss "all smiles" as the sports media was kissing her ass, but her rapid rise to one with no prayer of winning a major (her own fault) has turned her into a reactionary, pouting (along with daddy) because they cannot understand why the most hyped player of the past few years--and with the #1 ranking--is criticized for not having the game to win majors at this point.

She is definitely not the 'Miss Sunshine' she used to be. She has become a lot more *****ly/defensive in interviews of late and seems to be affected by all this constant no 1 talk.

I thing she has always done well since 2008 is improve, but I dont think I've seen any this year, in fact I thought she played a lot better last year than she does now.

Actually, the last option in the poll is typically British

Just like Safina and Jankovic before her. First they are dismissive, or eating up the #1 ranking talk, then the next stage sets in--bitter and pissy behavior, due to the world pointing out the obvious.

If true, she may have reached her peak. At the same age, other players had won one or more majors, but in Wozniacki's case, she is in a loser's holding pattern while newer players (ex. Kvitova) have taken center stage as genuine champions.

From her career up to this point, and the poor results, it is certain she needs a training makeover ASAP.

I fear this may be true. She doesn't seem to be incorporating anything new to her game, its not even her power deficency (compared to others), but she needs to take the initative, because others realise they need to against her (see Goerges, Cibulkova etc), and going for your shots seems to be the play against her now, esp high to the BH, hard to the FH.

For all my critisims of Caroline I do like her personally and wish her well. She always used to amaze me how much shes improved, but I have not seen anything positive in her game since Dubai/Doha.

Maybe the HC will rejuvinate her game, I think we will see where she is really at coming into the USO series.

All the big dogs SHOULD be playing, Im really looking forward to this HC season.

All true; other players know she has no weapons--no offensive counter to stop players (or force a moment of hesitation) from taking their shots. They also know she's an easy mark by stretching her out--knowing full well that as as a retriever, she will be all over the place, leaving the court open for easy winners.

...but her team is more than comfortable with her game, while other players--veterans and newbies take the majors.

Yeah, hopefully Clijsters returns, but does not play too may events leading to the USO. If Serena firms up at the rate seen match-by-match at Wimbledon, she could be a threat. In any case, I want to see some big battles.
